Pummel, balance or first step seem to be the popular choices

None of them.

At the moment.

Balance actually works and First Step is a proven commodity, at least for other positions. *shrug* Whether or not to bother investing in them is another matter.

I'd love to see someone statistically justifying how on earth Balance is a good SA to invest points in. My advice is to leave it well alone.

I'm also interested as to whether First Step or Quick Cut is better, if you were forced at gunpoint to take one of them up to 8.

First Step. I have it at 10 on my Guard and like it. He seems to react well and is nice for pulling. I used to have a piece of Quick Cut on him, but I didn't notice much improvement from it.

Last season I invested a few points in Balance on my (now retired) Center. I noticed an improvement IMMEDIATELY. I would definitely recommend it for later in the build when you have your main attributes up, and your SA's where you want them.

Bottom Line:
Balance is worth the SP investment.

How often did it fire per game?

Anyone notice if Pummel got any better with the new S18 sim changes? I am not seeing much so far...

I got rid of Pummel and replaced it with Balance for my lvl 69 Center this season. I only have it at 5 right now, but it's firing about once every 15 plays this preseason. Obviously it's a small sample size, but I've liked the results I've seen so far.

Pummel used to be sick (S16) but after the morale change it became useless. My team's entire O-line had it but swapped it out for First Step.
