Added the following note regarding non-premium promotions to clear up confusion some people were having:

These will be a buy one, get one free promotion and will have no effect on concession sales.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=3946717&page=1#36040170

I know that this is difficult to quantify and I hardly have a mountain of evidence, but what little there is is pretty solid.

Here's a look at the last two games for my team, the St. John's Salty Dogs, in Canada Pro:

Win, 83-19, versus the Nebraska Maniac Gorillas • http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1212754
Win, 84-23, versus the Kansas City Rams • http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1212683

Both were home games and since we all understand that concession sales are tied to the outcome of the game...these are nearly identical in that area as well. I didn't change concession pricing from one game to the next and the fan support remained relatively unchanged since we had one win following a loss in the two previous games. At the very least it would've been higher for the second game than the first...

Here's a look at concession sales for the two games:

..Beer...Brew...Soft Drink...Nachos...Hot Dog...Foam...Jersey
19,929...27,231...15,041...21,903...16,427...14,231...5,951
19,854...27,027...13,555...21,850...16,252...14,355...5,955

The difference? In the first game I used a Free Soft Drink Promotion and I used no promotion in the second game.

The variances between games...
Beer • -75 • -0.38%
Microbrew • -204 • -0.75%
Soft Drink • -1,486 • -9.88%
Nachos • -53 • -0.24%
Hot Dog • -175 • -1.07%
Foam Finger • +124 • +0.87%
Jersey • +4 • +0.07%

I would say that selling more when you're giving them away buy1 get1 free would make sense, so the numbers wouldn't shock me.

However, Catch clearly stated the would have "NO effect" on sales.

That is definitely interesting to say the least. We'll need more examples though to be completely sure so if anyone has run a free soft drink, nacho, etc promo, please check your sales for this if possible.

More examples is going to be the tough part. It works in my case because we had back-to-back home games with relatively close outcomes in each game with little to no change in fan support. One game had a promotion, the other didn't. Good luck replicating the circumstances.

Yeah, I know, but it doesn't necessarily have to be back to back really. Just looking for a couple of teams that have done promotions in a home game where they have had another non-promo home game of a similar score. I know, I'm likeas well, but I gotta cover all the bases here to really make a determination.

Would you?? Nah, don't answer that. I haven't the time for a thread as long as your football team's rap sheet.

Here is the best I could come up with ... Free Beer Day on 2nd game. Beer sales shot up and microbrews were down. Everything else was pretty flat game to game.

...........................................Beer......Brew....Soft Drink..Nachos...Hot Dog....Foam......Jersey
06/18/2010 W 52-34 .........4926 7880 2954 6150 4497 3237 1360
06/22/2010 W 42-20 .........5746 7809 3006 6190 4592 3298 1356

EDIT: Bad formatting, promo did have an affect

See. This is what I'm looking for. Similar scored games with one promo and one not. The promo doesn't seem to have any affect here, so I would like to find a nachos and/or another soft drink scenario as well.

Was there a difference in actual income on these two games, or was it just the amount of x being bought to be slightly higher in one case than another?

Seems to me it did have an affect, maybe it was my badly formatted post, tried to fix a bit.

You had a free beer promo in the game where you sold ~5700 beers right?

O_o

Are you smoking crack?

Let's use his numbers and look at them again...

..Beer...Brew...Soft Drink]...Nachos...Hot Dog...Foam...Jersey
4,926....7,880....2,954....6,150....4,497....3,237....1,360
5,746....7,809....3,006....6,190....4,592....3,298....1,356

The difference? In the second game he used a Free Beer Promotion and no promotion in the first game.

The variances between games...
Beer • +820 • +16.65%
Microbrew • -71 • -0.90%
Soft Drink • +52 • +1.76%
Nachos • +40 • +0.65%
Hot Dog • +95 • +2.11%
Foam Finger • +61 • +1.88%
Jersey • -4 • -0.29%

I'd say that you've found your second instance...

No, I went to Tennessee.

I meant to say it seems to have had the opposite affect. Sorry for the confusion.
