Important question.

How did we drop to #11 after beating #1?

the equation uses points scored and yardage to generate the rankings. a tough game could easily drop you a spot or 2 if the teams below you have big scoring games.

Well, I suspect that your overall record comes into play somehow?

3-0 with a huge win over the Foxes seems like enough reason for us to be top 3.

Top 5?

Top 10?

Nope, #11...

ooh.. well, i'll give you the down and dirty version.. Mr. Toberich would not be happy if I gave out the total formulas for his "picks", but he'll let me give out the down and dirty for the rankings... but he has let me give out this much of our "ancient" chinese secret...

And I'll use Brantford for the example:

1 Brantford Mustangs 720 8170 11.34722222 1 60 5083.5 84.725 1 1

Column 1: Overall Ranking - is the ranking number.
Column 2: Team Name - even easier column
Column 3: Total Points Scored
Column 4: Total Yardage Gained - This includes passing, rushing, returns, and a few other numbers (there are some penalty numbers in here as well.. but I'll let you guess as to what counts as penalty numbers).

Column 5: OYPP - Yards Needed to get 1 point.

Column 6: OYPP Ranking. The less yards you need to score a points, the better. Brantford would by their number of 11.34, only have to get 68.04 yards before they'd very likely have 6 points on the board.

Column 7: Defensive Points allowed: How many points did they give up total?
Column 8: Defensive Yards Allowed: How many yards did they allow?
Column 9: DYPP: how many yards You will have to go before this team allows 1 point to be given up. Therefore a higher number is better.

So Brantford last season had a 84.725 DYPP. You'll have to therefore get 508.35 yards before you'd score a TD against the Mustangs. (that's why they got elevated to #1 almost immediately after joining the Pro, cause nobody defensively is close to them at the moment.)

Column 10: Defensive Rankings

Colunn 11: Final rankings (again, this is very simple: OYPP Rank + DYPP Rank /2)

Note: that when I give you guys the "pick 'ems" (which won't start til week 3), there are a LOT more numbers I use when doing the wins/losses pick 'ems. So you could some teams that are lower in rankings get some upsets..

if you continue to have low scoring games, while everyone else has high scoring games, probably.

I think the easiest way to explain this ranking system is, the more you score, the higher your offense is ranked. The less your opponent scores, the higher your defense is ranked. The overall, is the average of those 2.

Don't get offended by his rankings, they're strictly based on the numbers, not his personal opinion. Because it's based on the final stats of the game, it won't be completely accurate until all the games are played out. the more games that are played, the more accurate the rankings will be. I recommend just wait a few more games, and if your team is meant to, it will move up.

I like being underrated and overlooked.

The Wallabies are a spare to fair team.

You came in at 8th, shield... not 11th (it's a tie for 8th on the rankings). Yes, beating #1 helps, but the rankings are based on "Yards Per Point". Also note, I've only got two variables with which to go over "total" rankings, so it makes it more difficult to differentiate.

Note you have the #5 offense in AA#4, but you also have the #15 defense.

(and no, strength of opponent doesn't come into play until everyone's played identical or "near" identical teams, at which point, it falls in naturally).

In other words, we could beat the other Fiji next game and drop further because it's a close, low scoring game?

OK, I think I'll wait until season 4 before I put much stock in your rankings

I never knew Wallabies was synonymous with Crybabies.

It's just an f'n spreadsheet. Jeezus.

Edit: after Week 1, our team was ranked #8. We took it with a grain of salt because we know that the proof is in the pudding. If you don't like it, go make your own rankings and put yourself up at #1.
