Season 3 Week 2 Rankings for USA #7 (Western Conference)

I could use some help doing these, so if any of the owners/GM's or even people on the team could PM me what you thought went right and wrong in your games (like what I've done here), it would save me a bunch of time. Thanks

Disclaimer: I am the owner of the New Brunswick n00bs and this is only my opinion based upon how the teams looked when I saw them

1. Silverymoon Elves
2. Waco Davidians
3. Great Plains Reapers
4. Las Vegas Stunners
5. Buffalo Rangers
6. Portland Hitmen
7. New Brunswick n00bs
8. Spicewood Longhorns
9. Scottsdale Sun Demons
10. Oakland Wizards
11. Dallas Red Raiders
12. Grand Haven Mist
13. Miami Cyclones
14. RGB Berzerk
15. Hartford Hellhounds
16. Carolina Bar Stars

1. Silverymoon Elves - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1663
What went right: Defensive Front Line – The Elves’ front line was all over the RGB offense, racking up a bevy of sacks, hurries and TFLs. They put immense pressure on the QB, accounting for all 6 sacks and 16/22 of the QB hurries, by the end of the game, the RGB QB was so demoralized that he was probably found after the game crying in a corner. The front line also disrupted whatever runs that RGB tried to throw them by tallying 6 of the 11 TFLs. It looks like the Elves’ defensive line is a tough unit to contain, but having faced 2 of the worst teams in the conference, we haven’t really seen if it truly is an impenetrable wall.
What went wrong: Red Zone Offense – Considering that the Elves offense pretty much moved at will in this game, it was a little disappointing to see that they didn’t get into the endzone much. One of their TDs was a defensive TD, so the offense only (this is a relative term…) scored 4 TDs while having to settle for 7 FG attempts, one of which was missed. In this game it was moot because of how much they overpowered RGB, but if RGB’s defense could make them stall so many times, it makes you wonder what a better run defense could do to the Elves’ offense.
Recent Game: W 53-3 vs RGB
Record: 2-0
Previous Rank: 1
Next Game: at Scottsdale Sun Demons

2. Waco Davidians - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1220
What went right: Run Defense – Waco basically stuffed Buffalo up pretty badly and forced them to throw the ball, resulting in a lot of mistakes. All of Buffalo’s backs had little to no success running the ball, being tackled in the backfield much more than they could break a tackle. We’ll have to see if anyone can run on the Davidian’s defense.
What went wrong: Punter – The only score that the Rangers were able to muster was due to a special teams breakdown where the punter kicked a 19 yd wobbler and the Ranger’s PR returned it for 50 yards to start the drive deep in Waco territory. With a punting avg under 25 and only one touchback to account for, the Davidians should be a little worried that his performances are so inconsistent. In a close game it can come to field position and their punter has been helping opposing offenses by shortening the field
Recent Game: W 26-3 at Buffalo
Record: 2-0
Previous Rank: 2
Next Game: vs Grand Haven Mists

3. Great Plains Reapers - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1212
What went right: Turnovers – In all honesty, this game was much closer than the score indicates, but the Reapers were able to turn things in their favor with a whopping 5 turnovers. With 3 INTs and 2 forced fumbles, the Reapers turned the Dallas offense against their defense and came out with a bunch of free points. While games won’t always go like this, the Reapers have now shown that they can force and capitalize on turnovers
What went wrong: Run Offense – While the 3 sacks definitely hurt this average, the Reapers backs still didn’t have a great running day. While serviceable, they just didn’t muster up that many yards, which caused the offense to stall in Dallas territory. The Reapers will need to have a more consistent running game if they hope to keep other teams off balance.
Recent Game: W 22-6 at Dallas
Record: 2-0
Previous Rank: 4
Next Game: vs Buffalo Rangers

4. Las Vegas Stunners - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1219
What went right: O-line – Las Vegas’ offensive line was the difference in this game. They kept the QBs upright and worry free, while opening gaping holes for the running game. Scottsdale’s defense just could do enough damage and paid for it with long, sustaining drives. If Las Vegas can continue with that style of play, they’ll be in every game they play and can beat teams above them if luck falls their way.
What went wrong: Receivers? – There really isn’t a major bone to pick with Las Vegas’ performance, but the one small area in which they can improve is by limiting the amount of dropped passes. If they can do this, they can be even more lethal through the air.
Recent Game: W 27-16 vs Scottsdale
Record: 2-0
Previous Rank: 5
Next Game: at Miami Cyclones

5. Buffalo Rangers - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1702
What went right: Run Defense – For the most part, the Rangers were able to contain the Waco backs from breaking off huge running plays and kept them to a sub-par 2.2 yds/carry. Even though the Waco backs broke 11 tackles, the Rangers’ run defense was able to punch back with 8 TFLs. On top of that, the Rangers’ run defense stiffed in the red zone and prevented any of the backs to get into the endzone. If the Rangers’ can keep this run defense going and don’t have to worry about a team’s passing game, they could dominate.
What went wrong: O-line – The Buffalo O-line had a tremendous amount of trouble keeping the Waco defense contained. While there were no sacks, the QB still got hurried 6 times, and this could very well have led to the 3 INTs. On top of that, the O-line was unable to open up holes for their backs to run through and instead got bowled over and let the backs get tackled in the backfield. While Waco is one of the premier teams in the conference, the Rangers should be concerned about their O-line because if other teams can dominate their O-line, the skill players will have a very tough time getting the offense running smoothly.
Recent Game: L 3-26 vs Waco
Record: 1-1
Previous Rank: 3
Next Game: at Great Plains Reapers

6. Portland Hitmen - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1211
What went right: Offensive Diversity – For the first time in a long time Portland showcased an extremely balanced offense. With the running game racking up more yards than the passing game, the Hitmen proved that they could run too, albeit against a pretty weak defense. If the Hitmen can maintain that balance in tougher games, then they could forge a way to being a playoff team.
What went wrong: Buttery Fingers – While they only lost one fumble, they had a whopping 4 fumbles, which mainly came from the HBs. If this is what happens when they run the ball, the Hitmen will have to hold their breath and hope that they don’t get bit in the butt. If they can keep mistakes down, they could be a dangerous team to face.
Recent Game: W 27-0 at Carolina
Record: 2-0
Previous Rank: 6
Next Game: vs New Brunswick n00bs

7. New Brunswick n00bs - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1210
What went right: Kicker/Punter – In this grind it out game, the n00bs got a big boost from great special teams play. Their punter averaged a superb 37.8 yds/punt to assist the defense in shutting down the Oakland offense, while the kicker booted a 53 yard field goal as well hitting everything all that was asked of him making him the lead scorer in this game. These golden feet helped to carry the n00bs to the win and help to give them hidden yardage.
What went wrong: Turnovers – In a worrisome trend, the n00bs backs are starting to lose the ball with more frequency. If the n00bs home to pull off more big wins, they can’t afford to turn the ball over too many times. With a gameplan that tries to limit possessions, the n00bs need to maximize their opportunities when they get them.
Recent Game: W 16-3 vs Oakland
Record: 2-0
Previous Rank: 8
Next Game: at Portland Hitmen

8. Spicewood Longhorns - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1214
What went right: Offensive Efficiency – After their loss last game, Spicewood shook themselves off with a pretty masterful offensive performance against Hartford. While they didn’t get into the endzone as much as they probably wanted to, the fact that they only punted once shows that they spent the majority of the game on Hartford’s turf. If you can do that, you’re guaranteed to succeed.
What went wrong: Kicker? – I’m chalking this one up to fatigue, but the Spicewood kicker missed 2 FGs and a PAT. In this game it was pretty inconsequential because their offense and defense was so dominant, but in closer games this could be a concern.
Recent Game: W 42-3 vs Hartford
Record: 1-1
Previous Rank: 9
Next Game: at RGB Berzerk

9. Scottsdale Sun Demons - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1225
What went right: Punting? – Nothing really went right in this game. Every facet of the Sun Demons showed a flaw today that needs to be worked on, from the missed tackles to a missed PAT. The one part of their team that seemed to fare ok was their punting game. Their punter did a serviceable job extending the field.
What went wrong: Turnovers – The killer turnover was when one of the QBs threw an INT in the endzone. If that had been a WR instead of a CB, this game could have been very different. It’s very hard to win with 4 turnovers in general, but when you have an INT in the red zone and another one deep in your own territory, it puts the defense behind the 8 ball in a very big way.
Recent Game: L 16-27 at Las Vegas
Record: 1-1
Previous Rank: 7
Next Game: at Silverymoon Elves

10. Oakland Wizards - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1215
What went right: Turnover creation – The Wizards forced 3 balls onto the ground and intercepted the ball once. If they had fallen on the balls more, the outcome of the game could have been drastically different. The fact that they caused those fumbles is an encouraging sign though and if they can replicate it, they could shock some top teams.
What went wrong: Offense – Overall, the Wizard’s offense just sputtered. Their QB couldn’t get anything going and was more a detriment than a benefit, and the runners got routinely stuffed. While the offensive line played a bit role in this, across the board the Wizards still should have been able to do better.
Recent Game: L 3-16 at New Brunswick
Record: 0-2
Previous Rank: 10
Next Game: vs Dallas Red Raiders

11. Dallas Red Raiders - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1217
What went right: Scoring Defense – Besides the heartwrenching first drive, the Red Raiders’ defense didn’t give up any more TDs, which is amazing considering the field position that the Reapers were afforded due to all the turnovers. The Red Raiders’ defense was able to force the kicker to earn his keep by kicking some really long FGs (which he actually did…). Having weathered 2 tough games, Dallas’ defense could be the key to winning some of these upcoming games.
What went wrong: Turnovers…again – What is going on? The Dallas offense is officially cursed. There doesn’t seem to be a reason for all the INTs and fumbles. It just seems that whatever wrong can happen to them has happened. Hopefully the GLB gods will look kindly upon them after dealing them some pretty rotten hands.
Recent Game: L 6-22 vs Great Plains
Record: 0-2
Previous Rank: 11
Next Game: at Oakland Wizards

12. Grand Haven Mist - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1222
What went right: Clutch Plays – The 4th quarter of this game was a tumultuous one with Miami taking the lead with less than 2 minutes to go in the game. The Mists made some major plays in their last drive and were able to tie it to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the Mists didn’t even give Miami a chance and drove steadily down the field allowing their kicker to knock the game-winning FG in at a very comfortable distance.
What went wrong: 4th quarter defense – Grand Haven had held Miami pretty quiet throughout the game, but when the 4th quarter came, Miami roared to life and the Mists’ defense was knocked back. Thankfully for the defense, the Grand Haven offense was able to sustain some drives so that they could rest up. The Mists will have to be careful to make sure that their defense isn’t drained by the 4th quarter.
Recent Game: W 16-13 vs Miami
Record: 1-1
Previous Rank: 13
Next Game: at Waco Davidians

13. Miami Cyclones - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1955
What went right: Balanced Offense – In this extremely close-fought game, the offenses both played mistake-free football. Miami displayed a well rounded offense which regularly gained yards on the ground and in the air. They just needed to sustain their drives a bit longer to get in better position to win this game.
What went wrong: Kicker – Yeah, the 2 missed kicks were kind of far, but these games are the reason why you invest in a kicker. This loss deals a major blow to Miami’s playoff aspirations. Now they have to get their act together and try to upset some people.
Recent Game: L 13-16 at Grand Haven
Record: 0-2
Previous Rank: 12
Next Game: vs Las Vegas

14. RGB Berzerk - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1223
What went right: Run Defense – When you see how outleveled the defense was against the Elves, it’s amazing that they were still able to rack up 4 TFLs and hold the Elves to a decent, but not too impressive 4.6 yds/carry. Their defense was pancaked over 20 times and yet they only allowed 2 TDs. Against a more evenly matched opponent, RGB could be able to shutdown the run better and sneak out with a win.
What went wrong: Where’s Awooga? – Awooga only got 7 touches in this game, which is disappointing considering he is RGB’s primary offensive weapon. Yes, I know that the computer autoadjusts when you’re down by a lot, but still…he only got half of the team’s carries. If the Berzerks hope to win more games, they’re going to have to figure out how to lean on Awooga more.
Recent Game: L 3-53 at Silverymoon
Record: 0-2
Previous Rank: 14
Next Game: vs Spicewood Longhorns

15. Hartford Hellhounds - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1216
What went right: K/P Returner? – The only OK part of the Hellhound gameplan was the returning. He got decent yardage, but not enough to put the Spicewood offense at a yardage far enough for the Hellhound defense to have a respite from the barrage.
What went wrong: QB play – To be honest, Walker’s poor performance doesn’t seem to make sense. At the beginning of last season he was tearing it up. Now, he’s posting some of his worst numbers when he’s not even getting pressured. Hellhound will need to figure this out quick or else they could be in trouble.
Recent Game: L 3-42 at Spicewood
Record: 0-2
Previous Rank: 15
Next Game: vs Carolina Bar Stars

16. Carolina Bar Stars - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=734
What went right: Passing Game – Considering how outmatched they were, the Bar Stars did a fair amount of damage through the air. While the QBs were pressured a good amount, they were still able to remain poised enough to complete the majority of the passes without throwing an INT. Aided by their receivers who only dropped one catch (and that was a TE), the Bar Stars were able to sustain some drives, but couldn’t piece enough plays together to score.
What went wrong: O-line – Once again the Bar Stars’ O-line was overmatched and the offensive skill players were brutalized. With multiple TFLs, hurries and sacks, the backfield basically became a roosting place of the Hitmen defense. The Bar Stars will need to upgrade their O-line if they hope to climb out of the relegation neighborhood.
Recent Game: L 0-27 vs Portland
Record: 0-2
Previous Rank: 16
Next Game: at Hartford Hellhounds

Offensive Player of the Week:
QB Alex Johnson Silverymoon – 38/60 (63.3% completion), 393.5 yds passing, 2 TDs, 0 INTs

Defensive Co-Players of the Week:
DE Huckleberry Hound Silverymoon – 7 tackles, 5 sacks (for 24 yds), 8 hurries, 2 TFLS, 1 Fumble recovered for a 45 yd TD.

Special Teams Player of the Week:
K Goal Post Great Plains – 1/1 in PATs, 5/5 in FGs (21, 39, 43.5, 49 and 56!! Yds)

Games of the Week:

#3 Great Plains vs #5 Buffalo

Buffalo will be raring to come back after their disappointing loss to Waco. If Buffalo drops this one, they could be in danger of falling out of contention for a home playoff stop. Great Plains hopes to build on its solid wins and jockey for a higher position.

Prediction: This game should be close, but it will hinge upon whether Buffalo can jumpstart its offense after the atrocious performance. I do think that Buffalo will perform better in this game, but it’s not going to be enough.
Predicted Score: 21-13 Great Plains

#1 Silverymoon at #9 Scottsdale

This will be Silverymoon’s toughest test to date, which isn’t saying much, but it’ll give the conference a better idea of what type of juggernaut the Elves are. Scottsdale will try to snag a quality win in order to create a more solid resume for playoff contention.

Prediction: The question here is whether Scottsdale will be able to score at all. If not, it’ll be a long game. I think this game won’t be as lopsided as Silverymoon’s first 2 wins, but it will be a rout nonetheless.
Predicted Score: 31-10 Silverymoon

#10 Oakland vs #11 Dallas

This very well could be a battle for a playoff spot. Both of these teams have been dealt a tough first-half schedule and have started out the season 0-2. When all is said and done, both of these teams will be contenders, but this game is an early test, and the winner of this game will have the tie-breaker, so there is a lot to play for.

Prediction: This game is on Dallas’ shoulders because they’ve had such an issue with turnovers. They’ve played 2 elite teams relatively close, but due to those turnovers no one’s seen their true offensive potential. I expect this game to be a coming out party of sorts for the Red Raiders.
Predicted Score: 24-10 Dallas

#15 Hartford vs #16 Carolina

The team that wins this game will have a chance at not being relegated, while the losing team pretty much has a ticket down to the BBB leagues. Both these teams are extremely flawed, so it might come down to dumb luck, but we’ll see whose tactics can pull out the most magic.

Prediction: Hartford’s level advantage is a big too hard to overcome unless they have crappy builds and Carolina has perfect builds. Carolina will have to hope that Hartford’s QB has the same type of meltdown he had last game, but I don’t think that’s happening. Hartford should win pretty handily, but Carolina could finally get some points
Predicted Score: 20-3 Hartford

Current “Game of the Week” Record: 6-2

If you have a different opinion of the players of the week, have a “play of the week” or have a prediction of the “Game of the Week” post below. Let’s see how this season turns out and good luck in week 3

Are you serious?

You really aren't putting New Brunswick vs Portland as one of the games of the week?

He doesn't want to a) appear biased more than normal and b) doesn't want to pick his team and have his own curse bite him in the butt.

Good write up as usual, though.

If you've been reading this since last season, I've never put a NB game up, haha. LSU, you can feel free to make a prediction

Oh, I am sorry. I didn't realize you were the owner of NB. I guess that answers why I have been wondering why NB hasn't been included in any of this...

But anyway, I'm currently doing some scouting. So I'll maybe post a prediction later.

I'd change up the first 2 teams. Waco has been dominant early on against better competition than Silverymoon, and has yet to lose to any team they will have to play in this league.

Neither have the Elves, but I'd say you gotta favor the elder statesmen when comparing those 2.

I agree which is why I have voted Waco over Silverymoon in the poll both weeks. But it'll be an interesting game once they play
