I like it.
Maybe to take it even a step further, have a small little icon next to each that will show if something has been updated. Kind of like the one that already exists but just smaller.

I know that there are couple threads out there suggesting that when a post within a sub forum is updated, the whole parent icon and last post should be updated. By doing what mat suggested and the little addition I suggested above, we can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Really like this idea - quicker access to the important bits...

It is logical

Could possibly try to put together a script...though it would likely be hardcoded rather that dynamic, which means it wouldn't work for private forums.
