Veteran Abilities FAQ - Authored by Bort

What are Veteran Abilities?
Veteran abilities are special abilities that unlock once a player has reached level 25. They are abilities to enhance and customize your player's performance.

How do I choose Veteran Abilities?
When you reach level 25, you will receive two veteran abilities immediately. To choose them, just click on the veteran points listed on the player's profile page.

How do I get more Veteran Abilities after the first two?
You will automatically earn veteran experience toward selecting a new veteran point every day during the season (from day 1 - 40). When your player's veteran xp reaches 1000, you will earn one new veteran ability.

How much veteran experience do I gain per day?
As your regular experience levels out, your veteran experience increases until it levels out at a steady rate as well:

From level 25-30, you receive 125 veteran XP per day.
From level 30-35, you receive 150 veteran XP per day.
From level 35-40, you receive 175 veteran XP per day.
From level 40 up, you receive 200 veteran XP per day.

Veteran XP continues even after your player's skills start to decline.

Is there a limit to the number of veteran points I can save up without spending them?
There is only a technical limit. You cannot store more than 255.

I see that veteran abilities can be selected more than once. What is the maximum level?
As you level up, the level that your veteran abilities can reach also increases:
From level 25-30, veteran abilities may go to level 5.
From level 30-40, veteran abilities may go to level 10.
From level 40 up, veteran abilities may go to level 15.

Some of the veteran abilities are grayed out. What does that mean?
Certain veteran abilities have prerequsites that you must meet before you can select them. For example, some might require that you reach 50 base strength, or have at least 800 fame. Roll your mouse over the veteran ability to see what the prerequisites are.

Are percentages on abilities multiplicative or additive?
They are multiplicative. If you have a 50% chance to do something, and an ability gives you a +10% bonus, you now have a 55% chance to do that thing.

Are percentages added to normal attributes added onto the base attribute or the attribute modified by equipment?
They are added on to the base attribute. If you have a base strength of 50, with equipment that gives you +3 strength, a +10% bonus would give you 58 strength.

Do decimals count when applying percentage bonuses to my attributes?
Yes. The simulation code deals with number in floating point.

If two abilities or an ability and a special equipment item both do the same thing, do the percentages add or are the applied more than once?
They are added up and then applied. For example, if you have a veteran ability that gives +10% bonus to breaking tackles, and a piece of advanced equipment that gives +5% to breaking tackles, the total bonus applied is +15% to breaking tackles.

Will more veteran abilities ever be added?
Yes, if we receive good suggestions, or if some are needed to apply to new features we may add down the road, such as injuries.

Training/Advanced Equipment FAQ - Authored by Bort (brought up to date by Mat McBriar)

What is Training?
Training allows you to make your player better over time by training specific attributes.

What are Training Points?

Training points allow you to train, by spending them, along with cash, to increase your attributes.

How do I get more Training Points?
You will automatically gain 2 training points per day during the regular season, awarded at the end of the day (midnight MST).

Do I have to train every day? Is there a training point maximum?
No. If you don't use the training screen for a day or two, you can stockpile up to 14 training points.

What's the difference between normal and intense training?
Normal Training allows you to train exactly the attribute you want, and costs 2 points. You also have the option of choosing a secondary activity. Intense training costs 5 points, lets you pick from a combination of two attributes, and awards you with one bonus token.

I clicked "Train" but my attributes didn't go up. Only the little bar below them did!
When the progress bar for an attribute reaches 100%, you will gain a +1 to that attribute. Any additional percentage points beyond 100% roll over to keep refilling the bar.

What is a bonus token?
One bonus token is awarded every time you do an intense training. Bonus tokens can be spent on two things:

* You can spend 4 bonus tokens to gain a temporary +5 bonus to any stat you like for one game, and gain +1 skill point to be spent however you like.
* You can spend 8 bonus tokens to upgrade one piece of advanced equipment one time.

What is a shopping token? How do I get them?
Shopping tokens are gained when you choose "go shopping" as a secondary activity while doing normal training. Shopping tokens are used to refresh the advanced item store with new items to choose from. The higher the level your player is the more items in the store he will have to choose from.

How do I get to the advanced item store?
Once you have a shopping token, just go to "buy equipment" on your player's profile page and you can access the "advanced" store.

How can I upgrade advanced items? What do I get out of it?
Once you have 8 bonus tokens, you can upgrade your advanced equipment once. Advanced equipment can be upgraded every 8 levels, just like normal equipment. An upgrade to advanced equipment gives you the option of adding +1 to any attribute you choose, and will upgrade any additional bonuses the item may already have:

* +% type bonuses gain +2% per upgrade.
* +Special Ability type bonuses gain +1 every other upgrade (at lv 8, 24, 40, etc)

Are +% type bonuses additive or multiplicative?

Multiplicative. For example, if you have a 20% chance to force a fumble and have an advanced item that gives a +50% chance to force fumbles, you now have a 30% chance to force fumbles.

What is Goal Line Blitz?
Goal Line Blitz is a browser-based multiplayer online game based on American Football. It is assumed that you know at least some of the rules of American Football. For a brush-up on the rules and positions, check out the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football ).

What can I do in this game?
Goal Line Blitz gives you a couple of options, depending on how you want to play the game. You can create players, level them up, and participate in a team's attempt to win the championship. You can also gain control of a team and set tactics, recruit players, build your stadium, and more. This is a truly community-based game. You should get to know some of the users on our forum. Most would be happy to answer your questions or recruit you to their team.

Who should I contact if I have a question or notice a bug?
You can post in the Forum, or you can Private Message Support (http://goallineblitz.com/game/support.pl ).

Is this game affiliated with the NFL, any other professional league, or any other website?

No. We are a completely independent game.

Where is feature X?

This is still a beta game, so there are lots of features we haven't added yet. If we've been talking about it, we're working on it. If we haven't been talking about it, maybe we haven't thought of it. Make a suggestion in the Suggestions forum!

Flex Points

What are Flex Points?

Flex Points are the basic currency of Goal Line Blitz. They will allow you to create more players, purchase teams, increase your players' stats, create custom gear, and more. You may see some players refer to them as "FP" or just "Flex."

How can I get more Flex Points?
You can buy them, or earn them. Also, we give out some Flex Points on special occasions, and some at the end of every season. Check out the Flex Points page to see how you can earn flex points.

How many Flex Points can I get through referrals?
You can earn up to 850 per season. The referral breakdown is as follows:

50 points per referral for the first 10 referrals.
25 points per referral for the second 10 referrals
10 points per referral for the final 10 referrals.

Referrals in excess of 30 will not earn you more points.

I referred somebody but didn't get any points. What's up?
Users that you refer must meet the following qualifications to earn you points:

* They must not be from the same IP address as you. This usually means: they can't be using the same computer to sign up, or share a network with you.
* They must create at least one player.
* They must be active and play the game for at least a day or two.

What do the different referral statuses on my account page mean?

There are four different statuses:

* "No Players": This user has not created any players.
* "Pending Activity": This user created an account and some players, but has not been active long enough to earn you any points
* "Awaiting Processing": This user has met all of the qualifications and will be processed for points at the next day change (midnight MST)
* "Processed": This user has already been processed.

Player Creation

Can I name my players or teams after NFL players and teams?
We encourage you not to name your players after NFL players, but we won't stop you. However, we do not allow teams to be named after real-life teams. If you name your team after a real-life team, you will be asked to change it. This is solely to protect us from legal threats.

How many players and teams can I have in my account?
As many as you can afford with your flex points. We start you out with enough to make between 2 and 4 players.

I messed up and made the wrong position. Can I start over and get my points back?

Yes. Just go to your player's profile page and click the "Retirement Options" link. You can retire your player from there and get a refund of points.

NOTE: You cannot retire a player once he has joined a human controlled team, so make sure you remain a free agent if you plan to retire the player.

What's with the different costs to create different position players?

Since some positions are more glamorous than others, we have made the less glamorous positions cheaper to create, to encourage you to create players in those positions as well. These prices may change over time with demand for various positions.

What are the maximum levels?
Attributes have no limit, but it costs more skill points to raise a higher attribute. Special Abilities can go to 10 and even higher with equipment. Player Level has no limit. As you increase each of these, you will find it harder and harder to increase them more. That is, the better you get, the harder it is to get even better.

How do I gain XP? When do I level up?
You gain XP every regular season day for training, and additional for participating in games. When your XP reaches 1000, you will level up and get some additional skill points to spend. The higher you get in level, the less XP you will get for training and playing. LV 1 players will usually level up after a game or two. Note: you will not gain XP for playing in scrimmage or playoff games.

What are skill points?
Skill points are points awarded to your player in order to improve his skills. You gain skill points by leveling up. Each attribute or special ability costs 1 SP at first, but becomes more expensive the higher you go.

Is there a penalty to my skills for playing out of position?
Yes, there is. It is a small penalty for similar positions like an OT playing G or a CB playing WR. The penalty is larger for very different positions, like a QB playing DT or a DE playing WR.

How do I join a team?
Go to the Contracts tab on your player's profile page. There are 3 offers from CPU teams to start out. If a human team gives you an offer, it will erase the CPU offers.

I joined a CPU team. How can I get on a human-controlled team?
You must have a human team owner offer you a contract. Contact the owner of the team you are interested in joining via private message to arrange a deal.

How does equipment work?
At first, all equipment costs $500. You choose your color and then pick what skill(s) you want it to help you with. Every 8 levels, you have the option to upgrade your equipment in order to get a bigger boost. Each boost will cost more money than the last. Custom Equipment purchased with Flex Points allows to upload a picture and assign up to 6 skills and +1 to an entire tree of Special Abilities.

Can I wear more than once piece of custom equipment at a time?

No, you can only equip one custom item at a time. You can purchase multiple and swap them around for different situations, however.

What is the last day I can boost my player each season?
The last day to boost is day 41, under normal conditions. After that you may only boost up to the level of the cap you are in. As soon as the next season's preseason starts, you can boost for that season.

Team Management

Why can't I buy CPU-controlled D-League teams?
D-League teams are special CPU-controlled teams for new players. We must keep them CPU controlled to ensure new players always have a place to play.

I made an offer to a CPU free agent/trade offer to CPU team. When will it go through?

CPU players and teams will weigh all their offers at the end of the day (midnight MST). They might accept or reject your offer, depending on other offers they have received.

I made a trade offer to a human team and it was accepted. When will it go through?
All trades are processed at the end of the day (midnight MST).

I purchased a new section for my stadium. When will it be built?
Sections will be built during the off-season, after the playoffs have concluded, and before the start of the next season. Seating upgrades are built right away.

When do I get ticket sales?
Tickets for upcoming games are sold at the end of every day (midnight MST). Season tickets are only sold on the first day of the season. Once you sell out all your games, you cannot sell any more tickets unless you buy more seats.

What is the minimum fan support level for each league type?

World League: 80 low/80 medium/70 high income
Pro Leagues: 70/60/50
AAA Leagues: 60/50/40
AA Leagues: 50/30/20
Uncapped Minors/Casual: 40/20/10
All other leagues: 30/10/0

I have empty seats and no one is buying tickets. What should I do?
There is a maximum price people are willing to pay for tickets to your games. If you are riding a long winning streak, they are willing to pay more. If you've been losing a lot, they will be willing to pay less. If you're not selling any tickets, try lowering your ticket prices.

Is there a list of offensive plays in the game?
Yes. Please click here (http://goallineblitz.com/offense_plays.html ).

The Season

How long is a season?
40 real life days, which simulates a 20 week season (including playoffs).

Are there playoffs? Who gets to go?
Yes. After the last games of the season are played, playoff brackets will be created for each league. The top 8 teams from each conference will go to the playoffs, and play in single-elimination brackets where the winners from each conference meet in the championship game. The others will have to wait until next year.

When do games get simmed?

Each league plays every other real-life day. Your the amount of time remaining until your next game's sim time is displayed on your home page, and on the league page for your league.

Buying a Team - Authored by Chessey

To purchase a team, click on (spend/buy/earn) next to your Flex Point total on your homepage.

http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Chessey4/flex2.jpg

At this point you will be brought to the Flex Point Home page. If you scroll down you will see the three different types of teams that Goallineblitz.com has to offer. Below is a short description of each (You can also find this on the Flex Point Home page).

Regular Team
Purchase and run a whole team. You control everything, from signing players to setting prices on tickets and beer. 1000 Flex points for 2 seasons. You can add additional seasons for only 400 points more per season.

Casual Team
Purchase and run a casual league team. These teams are just like normal teams, but the use of advanced AI is not allowed. These teams are aimed at the more casual player who does not have the time to do in-depth gameplanning. You can add additional seasons for only 400 points more per season.

Pee Wee Team
Purchase and run a team with a level 1 cap. Players on pee wee teams can only be signed at level 1 for one season. There is no need to build up the stadium. You can add additional seasons for only 400 points more per season.

Once you have made up your mind on the team you want, click blue button in the box that corresponds with the team you wish to purchase. This will bring you to the Purchase Team page.

Most of the time there are no teams readily available. However, you can sign up and be put on the wait list. This will allow you to receive a team if a current owner sells their team.

Regular and Casual Team Note
Make sure to set your desired cap correctly. You might miss out on your chance for a team or get the wrong capped team if you don't.

More Information
The list is ordered by the order in which you add yourself to the list.
If you go inactive for 3 days, you will be skipped over if a team comes up for sale.
You can pull yourself off of the list if you want, and receive your Flex Points back.
Teams are handed out to the wait list only at the end of the season.
You can only own one type of each team, however you can own one of each at the same time. (One Regular, Casual, and Pee Wee Team.)

Renewing Ownership
After the original ownership expires, you will get an alert on your team's home page telling you that your ownership is about to expire. To renew your ownership, click on the (spend/buy/earn) button next to your flex total on your home page.

http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr265/Chessey4/flex2.jpg

Scroll down to the "Extend Team Ownership" box. If you wish to renew, click the "Extend" button. This will bring you to a page that shows your total flex points. It also has a scroll down box that shows every team you own. Select the team you wish to renew. It will bring up your teams history. Most importantly, your expiration date. Use the scroll down box under your expiration date to choose how many seasons you wish to extend your ownership by (400 flex a season).

Selling your Team

To sell your team go to your team's home page. Among the ownership tabs you will find one labeled, "Sale Options". Click this.

Here you can sell your team back to the league, and it will become CPU controlled. THIS PROCESS IS PERMANENT! Everyone will have the ability to purchase the team once it is sold. You can only sell a team back for a portion of what you paid for it. This is to encourage owners to make sure they really want the team before purchasing it.

To sell your team, enter your password and you will receive the flex that is shown in the bright blue box.

- If you pay via Credit Card, you will receive your Flex Points within a few minutes, but sometimes PayPal can take a couple hours.

- If you use a PayPal Account (with money already on the account or linked to a credit card), you will receive it in the same amount of time as if you paid with a Credit Card (must have enough to cover the cost of the Flex Points).

- If you used PayPal, but the account is empty or cannot cover the charge, PayPal will draw the money from the bank account tied to the Paypal account. You will receive a confirmation email for proof of purchase. The transaction will be "complete", however, you will have to WAIT several days to receive the Flex Points (this delay is not on GLB, but rather the bank/PayPal). Please note that your bank may put a "hold" on your funds until the transaction is cleared, so it might look like they've taken your money, though they haven't.

If for some reason you still haven't received your Flex Points after a week of payment, please use the support tab and follow the instructions.

- If you have any questions on the safety of PayPal follow the following links to PayPal
http://tinyurl.com/PayPalGLB2 - What is PayPal?

For Gift Cards:

1. Buy gift card (Preferably a Visa Gift Card but you can use an AMEX Gift Card if you can manage to link it to your Paypal)
2. Activate/register it online or by phone (It may take a while to have your card activated)
3. When activating/registering make sure that the name and address that you input matches what you're going to put into the purchase screen
4. Go to purchase screen (it's probably best to bypass registering/logging into PayPal)
5. Type in your info and follow the directions
6. You should receive your flex shortly

How come my flex has not been added when I have already made the purchase?
- Occasionally, PayPal will put your payment up for 'payment review'. Even if the payment is shown on your statement, it does not matter. PayPal will take up to 48 hours to process this payment review so just sit tight.

Note: All flex transactions go through PayPal, even if you aren't logged into PayPal or using a PayPal account.

Estimating Scouting Bars, How To - Authored by Mat McBriar

You can estimate the larger factors that go into an lolbar relatively easily. Figuring out the exact formulas is where it becomes a pain in the ass.

Be aware that I you'll potentially be losing free players/reward points doing this (I'm burning through my free 100 reward points for doing this, so you owe me ).

Also note that I haven't done this since Bort altered the lolbars so I'm not some uber resource and I possibly am making slight errors for potential innaccuracy. I can at least teach you (and everyone here) how to simply estimate the large factors. We're obviously not utilizing legit statistical evaluation of thousands of builds.

For this example we are going to calculate the large factors in the 'Pass Defense' bar.

1. Create players (make sure to use consistent height/weight) with the goal of placing their attributes so their bar is right on the cusp of moving. Obviously you want to use a more minor factor when fooling around, i.e. something like tackling for the pass defense bar as opposed to speed or vision. Remember you can stash excess initial points in punting/kicking as a trash bin of sorts. The goal here is to create somewhat of a base build for you to work off of. This is the hardest/most tedious part.

For this example I'm using 5'8", 190 lb CBs.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2022989 - All in kicking/punting, determining low point for pass defense bar. Noting 15, so I want to slowly alter the build until we are at the point where we are just on the cusp of crossing into an 18 bar.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023006 - Slowly approaching the 18 bar by adding 5 in tackling. Clearly need to add more.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023016 - Aimed high here and clearly I overestimated the importance of tackling in the pass defense bar. Going to sacrifice towards speed next go around.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023033 - Okay I've finally hit the 18 bar through use of speed. Now to get my baseline build to the ultimate cusp through a lesser attribute. Noting 22 speed.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023039 - Addendum, wanted to change height to 6'3" as I know vision is a large factor so I can have more points to use with my baseline build. Will make more sense later. Noting 20 speed.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023050 - Noting 18 bar with 18 speed/15 tackling.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023056 - Turns out that the bar turns from 15 to 18 when adding from 14 to 15 tackling. Baseline build found: Speed to 18, Tackling to 14.

2. Once you have found the baseline build, all you need to do is figure out how many points it takes in 1 attribute to move the bar up to the next 3. In this case we are waiting for our red 18 to turn into a yellow 21.

a. We'll start with speed since this will provide a good understanding.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023086 - Using our baseline build I then proceeded to add to speed. The goal is to find the exact point in which it turns into a yellow 21. Through initial point use and into initial SP use I managed in 1 try to find that number to be 13. Because it turned on our move from 12 to 13, we can assume that each level of the speed attribute is worth between 3/12 and 3/13 in the Pass Defense bar. We use the simple equation 3 over x because we've moved the bar 3 points (or as close as we can estimate to 3 points).

b. Now to do this more systematically, going with strength.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023115 - So, we couldn't get the pass defense bar to move to our target yellow 21, but it did indeed bump up from that red 15 to a red 18. This tells us strength does indeed play into the pass defense bar, however, at a rate of less than 3/24 for every point in strength.

c. Agility

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023134 - Same deal as strength. We couldn't hit our target yellow 21, but it certainly moved the bar. We spent 24 points into it without luck, so we know that agility plays a part less than 3/24 for every point in agility.

d. Vision

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023151 - Ugh, guess I needed a less initial point using baseline. Bort sure did make these bars hard to crack, lol. Vision went up to a yellow 18 just short of our goal of a yellow 21, and I spent 25 points on the way of doing so. So while we know vision plays more of a part than strength or agility, it still is less than 3/25 per point of vision. Noting that it turned to a yellow 18 at 21 to 22 points for equivalency purposes.

e. Jumping

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023176 - Smaller than 3/25 per point of jumping. Less than vision.

f. Tackling

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023191 - Smaller than 3/25 per point of tackling. Less than vision.

g. Confidence

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023210 - Smaller than 3/25 per point of confidence. Less than vision.

h. Catching

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023220 - Most likely not in bar.

i. Carrying

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023227 - Most likely not in bar.

j. Stamina

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2023229 - Most likely not in bar.

What we learned
In tiers of importance using what we know:
Speed - between 3/12 (0.25) and 3/13 (0.23)
Vision - less than 3/25 (0.12)
Strength, Agility, Jumping, Tackling, Confidence - less than 3/25 (0.12) (some players I forgot to use my 7 training points to raise it 1, but being that none besides vision touched a yellow 18 it is a safe assumption)

Anyways, you can see how in depth some of these bars can be. Pass Defense being one of the pain in the butt bars due to all the attributes factoring into it (7 attributes + potentially height and weight is a mess).

Hopefully y'all learned something? Lol.

Obviously ideal situations would be to farm players to be used for cracking lolbars. Essentially having ~20 players with 60+ SPs to use so you could find a baseline and then test attributes while finding legit points (like we did with speed). I just don't have those kind of resources to farm players for cracking lolbars (ok well maybe I do but I don't have that kind of patience).

Any questions feel free to ask.
