Longhornfan1024-1. What is the difference between the bonus given to the break tackle roll by LTS and the bonus give by % AEQ? Is LTS a flat bonus? If so, does it go into the score that is then modified by the % AEQ?

Bort: LTS (and Power Thru) are flat bonus type abilities, like most SA's. Added at the end of calculations (on top)

Catch- Nope, probably should pick one that helps you tackle on ST's.

Catch- No.

Epark88- Why do teams now have to sell out and join somebody's network in order to win? It's getting harder for the independent teams to recruit the best dots when they're already allocated to some Pro/WL parent club two or three seasons down the line.

No disrespect to the Addicts, Black Hand Cartel, DTD, etc. because they're pretty cool. But owners who prefer to keep their team's identity intact should have the opportunity do do so and still have a reasonable chance to recruit great dots, win games and advance to the highest levels as well.


Bort- Nature of the game (and life) I guess. Making connections and friends always helps no matter what we're talking about. We really have no control over who decides to sign with who. We try to provide people with the tools to find players out there, such as the marketplace, private messages, and the forums, but it's up to the owner to use them and convince people.

AngryDragon- Does avoid fakes AE avoid pump fakes or any of the new SA fakes like catch fake?

Catch- Yes it can, anything that is a fake it can avoid.

Adderfist- Do QB's throw to where WR's are going to be? or where WR's should be?

In conjunction- Does ballhawk add on to the lead the QB gives WR's?


Bort- Yes, they can lead the WR based on his route and upcoming cuts in the route. The QB takes into account current speed and max speed, but not ball hawk. Ball hawk for receivers is more for getting to bad passes.

cwrujosh- How much do you need in Quick read to begin to see a noticeable increase in the speed of reads? I'm at 4 so far and am seeing nothing.

Catch- There should be an effect at 4 but obviously the higher the SA the more noticeable it will be. We're not going to give you an exact number though, it's something you'll have to learn on your own through trial and error.

pottsman- Why do private forums get scrambled whenever you add a new one? Is there any order?

Catch- No particular reason, it's just random. Could do a database sort by forum ID but it's not currently done that way.

Longhornfan1024- I think I remember during the early part of the game that you made a post in which you said that catching and jumping have an inverse relationship in that the higher a dot jumps--which is determined by their jumping attribute--the more catching they need to have a chance at catching the ball. Can you clarify whether you said that and what it means?

Bort- No, never said that AFAIK. Jumping just makes you jump higher. Catching makes you catch better.

Catching a high pass is harder in general, though, so you probably do want some more catching if you're getting a lot of jump balls.

Dr. E- If your QB was making bad throws with no pressure, what all would you look to as the cause and what order?

Bort- Confidence and vision would be your primary culprits. Even with no pressure, the QB can feel rattled from previous pressure or from somebody using the Fearsome VA.

sjmay- Saw some of the tester discussion on elusive backs cutting back in etc, has that been added? Just curious because I saw the exact thing that PP and others were talking about wanting to happen, happen in today's game.

Bort- I had been working with that, but it's not fully in the live version (disabled most of it). Some adjustments have been made, but the whole version I was working on didn't always work right.

MadMustaff- Can you explain what is takes to get Offensive tackles to respond quickly against pass rushers? I've seen tackles with high agility, speed, blocking, confidence and vision barely move at times in pass blocking.

Catch- There are a number of factors not limited to the attributes you listed (stamina and confidence impact it as well). I will say that people think that high speed is 55-60 and high agility is 70-75 and that's often not going to be enough to keep up with a 100+ speed and agility DE - you're going to get beat sometimes in those instances.

timthorn- Does Cover Up SA and similar anti fumbling % AEQ, etc... help prevent Knocked Loose passes?

Bort- Yes, but the anti-Knocked Loose skills are going to work better for you.

Big Poppa- Blitz SA as a bonus SA on my DE? does that fire every passing down? basically anytime he is pass rushing?

Bort- Yes.

AngryDragon- Does having more or less vision help avoid pumpfakes? I mean if a defender is practically blind does he miss the pump fakes? Or if the defender has very high vision combined with say super vision can he avoid being fooled by pump fakes?
Catch- Higher vision will of course help you see pump fakes. Having no vision doesn't mean you're blind, it means you're stupid.

popo1010- Why do you think the recruiting this season is dry?
Actually why are there no SA for kickers with archtypes?


Catch- I didn't realize it was dry but one of the main reasons is probably a lot of teams started over with the archetypes.

As for why there are no extra SA's for kickers - because pretty much every situation possible is already handled by the existing VA's or SA's and we couldn't come up with any unique ones.

cwrujosh- When Bort added the marketplace he talked about doing away with the players looking for teams forum. With the ability to now add comments, the purpose is even less needed now. Is there plan to shut down these forums and move everything to the the marketplace system?

Catch- Not any time in the near future - too many people use the PLFT forum and we're afraid if we shut it down it would spill over into the other forums.

j10er- My question concerns Cut Block, and it's practically a mini-series:

1) Does Cut Block work in pass blocking situations?

2) When/how does Cut Block fire?

3) What helps Cut Block to be successful? Obviously higher levels of the SA, but, what else? If I had to guess, I'd say Blocking, Agility and Vision.

4) My level 65 Guard is the perfect Cut Block experiment. He had 1 in there last season, and before the first preseason game he had 7. He has 103 Blocking (with VAs), 83 Agility and 70 Vision, so I would expect him to be successful occasionally with Cut Block. Right now, I'd estimate that he successfully performs a Cut Block around 5% of the time, assuming the only time he can Cut Block is when he is revcaked in the running game. For a 7 in Cut Block, that seems awfully low. Shouldn't this SA receive a bump?


Bort- 1) Yes

2) Whenever the blocker is losing and likely to be pancaked soon, he has a chance to use it

3) Just the SA level, and being a poor blocker

4) I would have to do some testing to say for sure. Catch will get to this one in his testing I am sure.

F8n4tune- Are any more individual stats going to be added in the future for dots ? Like sacks given up , or TD's.

Catch- Yes, it's on the list of things to do, just a matter of having the time to do it.

Saris- If Hail Mary is measured from the QB to the receiver, is that also the case for Possession Receiver?
And are distance based mechanics measured from the center of the dots or from the perimeter of the dots? This would be particularly useful to know in the case of very short distances such as when Gang Tackle would be active.


Bort- Hail Mary is y distance from the QB to receiver (not as the crow flies).

Poss Receiver is from the LOS

Distances are from the center of the dots.

Adderfist- So a WR if he messes up his route, or has to slow down on his vision check. The ball will go right to him, instead of where the play says it should go?

Bort- Yes, if the WR has to slow down for some reason, the QB will take that into account to try to get it within his reach.

AngryDragon- Now that energy has been bumped up it seems like HBs are harder to tackle. Has any testing been put into unexpected results of rolling back the energy and moral this season?

Catch- That's not the only reason that HB's are harder to tackle.

Bort- Yes.

Catch- If you have 0 in a penalty SA, it is still at 0.

I know there are apparently still some bugs but to me it doesn't seem to be asking too much for a perfected "prototype" to be release just so we can get an idea.

timthorn- Does working as a full-time employee of GLB provide you with Health Care benefits. If so, do you guys have Mental Health benefits in the event that us agents drive you crazy with our never ending questions?

Catch- I can not reveal the details of my employment contract. I do get free reach arounds from DD once a week though.

Guppy, Inc- I understand that you have said that you like the current system, but do you look at any of the numerous complaints regarding specifically the ST MVP? seems like every season, there are multiple MVP winners that the numbers just do not seem to support. even with the adjusted stats, I've seen players win 4 or 5 ST stat trophies and not come in any higher than 6th and others win the MVP without being close to the top in any ST category.

Bort- I'm aware of the complaints for the most part. I don't have any grand plans on changes for special teams (though I have made minor adjustments here and there over the seasons). If you have a suggestion on specific stats to count higher or lower to make it work better, let us know in suggestions.

beenlurken- Got To Guy... in the email question answers Bort said it defaults to qb progression with multiple GTG players... the description says depth chart... would you please clarify which is correct?

Catch- It's depth chart for WR, after that it goes by order of progression (for HB, FB, and TE).

49ers4life52- You added a Sort EQ Fund awhile back in the changelog, but you had to take out due to a browser problem when I asked you. Any word on that?

Bort- The script I use doesn't work with text fields at all. I haven't tried to write my own that might work better, but I don't know if possible. Certain browsers rewrite how the fields work when you reorder the table rows (I'm looking at you IE).

MingeyMatt- Are we going to be able to own two regular teams next season?

Catch- We'll try but no guarantees since we have three major projects we're working on.

spoons04- bort where do you see this game in a year, 2 years or further? also why is recruting so diffucult in the aaa leagues , is there something going to be done to help it out with pros and wl taking all the high level players.

Bort- I see us out of beta, with baseball going in tandem, with some sort of intermediate tactics done, and our major projects we've been talking about having been pushed out for a while (finally).

There were mass retirements to start over with archetypes this season, leaving us with a drought in the upper leagues and a glut in the lower leagues. As people level up, we'll see some more players for AA and above.

bhall43- Are there any plans to continue giving text boxes for SA's firing? Like for Hurdle or Catch in Stride? I still like Mustaches and Sunglasses for Disguise Blitz?

Catch- Probably at some point - we wanted to see how they worked at first and what people thought. Most people seem to like them.

cwrujosh- Was Spin "stealth nerfed" in the past day or two, and if so, why wasn't that added to the changelog?

Catch- No it was not.

F8n4tune- Is there any one thing that you wish you could bring back to the game ?

Bort- I haven't really removed anything that I want to bring back that I can think of. There are several things I would like to see added, but we are actually getting to those now!

j10er- Thanks for replying about Cut Block, Bort. Two follow up questions:

1) Do defenders get an anti-Cut Block roll? If so, what are the factors, and can the offensive player affect the anti-roll?

2) If Cut Block is supposed to work on passing plays, then it is severely under-powered. With a 7 in it, I'd say it works about 5-10% of the time on run plays. If pass plays are included, then it works about 2-3% of the time. Hmm... there's no question here. How about this - if those numbers are correct, do you think that is under-powered for an SA?


Bort- 1) Yep: agility, strength

2) If those are correct, I'd agree it's probably underpowered. It all depends on the matchups, though, so I'd have to do more in depth research. If a blocker is always winning, he's not going to ever cut block. If he's always losing, he's going to do it more.

Is there a way to control the length of time the QB is on a certain receiver in the progession?

There are a lot of times, that a receiver gets open a tick after the QB moves on, or the QB will stay on one receiver too long and not move etc,


Catch- Really the only way is to have them more than once in the progression list.

Catch- It'll be the same, just a more stable game with less changes (far less) and no Beta tag on the home page.

Catch- Mainly text icons but there are a few cool animations (like the ball spinning).

Catch- Nope.

1kwerdna- Why do you guys withhold information from us such as what the flash replays look like, what the OOP penalties are, and how much the reduction is for the SA's.

What's the big secret?


Bort- Flash replays: People tend to pick things apart, and I'd prefer to present a more polished product when we roll those out.

OOP penalties, etc: We would like to retain some mystery to keep min/max builds down and give reasons for people to discuss how things work and experiment. Otherwise it's simply a 100% math game and might as well be a math test website.

Barnsie- How does vision help a OT, aside from reducing false starts? it seems you always want the OT to take on the DE in front of him, and any additional vision can cause him to pick up somebody else instead...

Bort- Vision helps all blockers pick up blitzers. You don't always want a tackle to take on a DE. Sometimes you want him to take on a OLB who is coming in from the side, leaving the G to take on the DE. Vision will help him see that OLB instead of just ignoring him.

cwrujosh- Any plans to limit AA, and AAA to certain effective levels? It's not so fun as a team of 50s playing a team of 70s in AA, nor should those guys be permitted to be there in a tiered system.

Catch- No plans - we might consider putting a max level cap on AA. It's something we'll evaluate when we have time.

Triple_A- question about competition. Would it be possible to use retired players instead of CPU players (they would still be CPU players, but have better builds). There are many agent owned teams with too many CPU players and the scores are 150+ to zero. I had a game today where we won 405-0, they were not a CPU team, but had a lot of CPU players.

It would be great if you could somehow make these CPU players better than what they are now, using retired players might be a solution.


Bort- We have been talking about bumping up CPU skills again. Last time I did, somebody lost to a CPU team and got pretty mad, LOL.

Chris LeDoux- Is there a way to see if a returner has low morale/energy? They start off page and so the sweat and faces don't show.

Catch- No, there really isn't a way currently to do that.

Saris- There was a mixed response to coaching when it was announced. But one concept that really stood out was the ability to give bonuses to different systems. Such as a team gaining a season long bonus vs zone defenses, or a defense gaining a bonus vs long passes. If these were powerful enough it would for a large part allow the community to balance itself, freeing up more developer time for new content rather than having to micromanage the sim's balance. Is this still a planned feature of coaching, and are there any other features being considered that could place more of the checks and balances of sim balance into the hands of the community?

Catch- Details will be out soon but we'll be doing something close to that, yes.

Guppy, Inc- i love the new replays with all the labels. did you guys think of using symbols instead of words, like tornado for spin, or bulldozer for powerthru kinda like the i'm open?

Bort- Yeah, I was originally going to use more symbols but they were kinda hard to figure out what was going on. Maybe in the flash replays (though right now we have something pretty similar to my javascript replay icons)

bhall43- Has Quick Read been thoroughly tested? It seems to fly over open WR's pretty often and then the QB gets all flustered...almost as if it makes QB worse rather than better...maybe ive just had bad experiences tho...

Catch- I did pretty thorough regression testing on all the new SA's - doesn't mean that every thing is working perfectly though and that we won't re-evaluate it in the future.

BWN- Is there going to be an option for us to swap out our Bonus SA for a new one in the future?

Catch- Yes that will be part of the new training system.

beenlurken- Everything is wrong with this replay... players run straight downfield instead of playing how the returner reacts... the punt team does not make any response once the ball hits the ground... the returner (as close as he was to the ball) was questionable to let it go (I see the arguement on the either way).

There are countless of player ghosting and poor logic/pathing. When will this finnaly get some attention and be fixed?


Catch22- We are aware that special teams is not perfect and we will work on it when time permits. We did address several issues with ST's this off season and will continue to try and improve it.

Bort- It applies on any tackle attempt, missed or not. DvG would multiply that loss, yes.

Guppy, Inc- are there other criteria needed for pummel to work? i loaded 1 player with 7 pummel, and he's getting around 20 pancakes a game, but i'm not seeing any sad defenders until very very late in the game. i would have thought that much pummel + pancakes should really be making sad defenders

Bort- No, it's added any time there's player fighting to break/hold a block. It's possible we need to make it better, but I will leave it to Catch to do some tests on that.

Catch22- No - we're going to keep it at 55. (When asked if this is permanent) I will never say for good - it's likely we will keep it at 55 but things are always subject to change.

Bort- Actually, you lose points per return and gain points for yards, essentially giving more points for more high average returns. If you have a bunch of lousy returns, you'll get negative points.

Bort- The individual tactics are added to the coordinator tactics. If the coordinator sets 1 yd and the player sets 1 yd, you get a net of 2 yds.

Bort- Exponential decrease. I'd not recommend anything over 12-13 myself, but some people swear by going higher. Higher will count, but eventually it's pretty minimal.

Catch22- Yes, but there are no text boxes attached to it. I noticed it numerous times when I did the testing on it.

Catch22- Correct - where without the SA they might slow down when catching a long pass (due to adjustments), Catch In Stride will help prevent the slow down.

Bort - We don't count a lot of other stats, either, such as punts inside the 20. Made sense to me at the time .

Bort - Yeah, avoiding the tackle does. But to see if you can use the hurdle skill, you need some jumping to make it more likely.

Bort - Sure, but you'll be getting reset over and over. .

Bort- People really fear moving from levels lower than 45ish to uncapped. If anything, we'd want to remove some AA's and make them lv 46 instead. .

Catch22 - % bonus - works similar to the VA.

Scat Back is a flat bonus though.

5. I've seen that custom defensive spots ROLB1/ROLB2, etc. aren't going to happen. I'm curious to know what the rationale for that is.


Catch22- Again, we haven't discussed it in depth yet but it will be something in between the current Casual and regular leagues - teams will be able to select custom AI's and playbooks... something along those lines. .

cavalier- If you are worried about people buying less flex points, just reduce the FP give back with x% every plateau season.

Bort - We had originally planned that idea, tbh. Many people didn't like it very much (they said "just give it up and retire" or "boo cash grab").

We've discussed at various points adding another season onto the decline, but it all comes back to that.

Bort - I was going to add the ability to flag replays and make notes for collaboration mainly.

pottsman- If two teams are allowed to be owned, could we transfer current teams to someone else?

Assuming yes...will there anything preventing one guy from owning multiple teams in the same league, especially WL? I know of a few organizations that did/do/will have multiple teams up there, and I just don't know if it will be worse for there to be two teams owned by the same guy in WL (as opposed to 2 teams where the guy is just a co-owner on one)


Bort - Would be kinda hard to enforce when teams can move up. Enough "organization" teams already make it without too many problems. Some of the ideas we are working make it less likely they will collude as well, but we shall see I guess. .
