Thread started April 7th, 2010.

This is a young thread, but basically enkidu98 suggests adding an option for AI deviation so that teams may not start passing quite so quickly when they get down in the lower leagues.

I'm noticing that at the low levels, essentially whoever can get up significantly first, can put the other team in a mode where they try to pass a lot, and in the lower level leagues thats just a death sentence more often than not.

Teams deviate from their running game fairly quickly when they get behind, and this just puts them further behind faster.

I think it may help make the games more fun/competitive if we looked at scaling back the AI in the casuals and the speed it goes to trying to force a passing game when you are behind.

OR, make this a user configurable option in the basic AI's.

Essentially, stick to my settings until I am behind by X points.

I've seen teams (like the team my casual team played today) who were running effectively, but they fell behind and then started passing when if they had kept running, they would have done much better.

Just think its a flaw in the logic that may help teams have more fun at lower levels.

When they start failing because the AI shifted on them, they hit that morale death spiral.

I like that idea a lot actually.

I'm not an OC, but does it automatically switch to passing when you get behind? I didn't know that, if so, that kinda sucks...and agree this should get changed.Originally posted by Bort
Basic tactics will use general football logic when you get behind later in the game and try to play catch up by passing more. Same way it is more likely to run on a short down, etc.

Awesome, so were fixing lower level passing to make it not a 'death sentence' and finally tackling the root of the problem

oh, whats that, the solution is just 'don't pass so much' ....oh I see.

Passing is hard to fix, and there are passing fixes, but this is an additional suggestion. Its unfortunate that if a team has a good pass defense, you'll continue to pass against them in the casuals because of a game logic. You get down, and you continue to pass, even though if you kept up your ball control, you might stand a better chance in the game.

This sort of option would allow you to have a bit more control of a casual team's offense by trying to stick to your own settings longer, before normal football logic kicks in.

Its the biggest problem at the lower levels IMO. Your team could even be designed for a running attack, and your QB designed for running, but if the other team gets up (and I have seen them get up because they are a passing offense) you can force the other team built to do one thing, to start doing another.

And with low levels and the low confidence etc, the morale spiral is easier to hit.

So a little more control without adding complexity to Casual AI's would likely be a nice thing.

Fail.

Enkidu98 solution is great. Just follow the amount of complaints (bug/suggestion forum) of Casual players that don't understand why their offense doesn't run enough. It will be a great addition to casual teams from L4 to uncapped.

Simple, smart and needed.

True. I can see how a pure run team would like to have the ability to stick with what it wants to do.

I guess this isn't the thread/issue for my crusade to improve lower level passing

(I've heard reports that it might have got better this season, but then I've also heard reports to the contrary also...).

Its a good option and should be implemented.

Well, it also can be used to stop a pass first team to start running the ball with a 'too small' lead.

I'm sure it's been mentioned that time remaining needs to be involved. 14 points behind with 30 minutes to play is very different to 14 points behind with 4 minutes to play.
