I was taking a look at our conference today, and I must say this season is going to be tough as nails

11 of the 16 teams in our conference were playoff teams from last season. 7 of 16 teams won a playoff game last season and made it to the conference semi-finals or farther.

Here is how I'm seeing things shaping up based upon S14 finishes and how each team's roster stands right now. It gets tough to format this type of data, but I'll try to explain

Here is what I was tracking:
Team Name | S14 Record | S14 Playoff Finish | # of Players | Avg. Level | Avg. Player Value | Avg. Player Value per Level | Notes

Basically I am trying to look at S14 record & playoff finish. I then pulled the # of players they currently have on their roster, their average level, and their average player value. This should give us an idea of the strength of their roster.

The second to last column (or last if I didnt have any notes) is the "Avg. Player Value per Level". This is to help account for boosting differences - some teams have boosted up to level 25 already and some haven't. The boosted teams will inherently have a higher player value, but if we just divide that by the average level it will give us an idea of the strength of their players for their level. For example, the Ether have boosted to level 25 so their average player value is about 40 points higher than the Dawn. Dawn is still at level 22, but looking at their average player value per level, it is slightly higher than the Ether. I don't think it average player value is linear growth so it probably doesn't work out perfect, but theoretically once boosted Dawn should have an average player value higher than the Ether.

Big Dogs of the conference
Mythic Dawn | 16-0 | Round 3 | 49 | 22 | 419.3 | 19.06 | SSB of 1/2 season
Luminiferous Ether | 15-1 | League Champ | 54 | 25 | 459.34 | 18.37 | SSB full season

Just below the big dogs... strong S14 showing + great roster #'s (>18 Avg Player value per level)
San Diego Blues | 15-1 | Conference Champ | 50 | 23 | 423.65 | 18.42 | ~15% of roster is SSB 1/2 season
Long Beach Dub All-Stars | 13-3 | Round 2 | 52 | 24 | 436.29 | 18.18 |

Fighting it out for the playoffs - Good S14 finishes, good roster #'s
Doomsday Sin | 16-0 | Round 3 | 49 | 24 | 428.81 | 17.87 |
Communist Regime Reapers | 13-3 | Round 2 | 52 | 24 | 419.8 | 17.49 |
Romanian Devil Gypsies | 13-3 | Round 1 | 52 | 22 | 421.37 | 19.15 | SSB multiple seasons for much of roster
Green Bay Gamblers | 12-4 | Round 2 | 50 | 22 | 392.57 | 17.84 |
Slack Jawed Yokels | 12-4 | Round 1 | 51 | 24 | 423.22 | 17.63 |

Very Good looking roster #'s (better than much of the above tier), but didn't pull it together in S14
Tokelau Phoenix | 9-7 | Round 1 | 49 | 23 | 429.16 | 18.66 |
Gravenhurst Ghost Ridahz | 9-7 | Round 1 | 51 | 21 | 392.28 | 18.68 |
House of Rahl | 8-8 | DNQ | 53 | 23 | 425.84 | 18.51 |
Nikopolis Stoic Hedonists | 8-8 | DNQ | 43 | 25 | 450.29 | 18.01 |

Good, but probably not good enough in our conference
Brisbane Heat | 6-10 | DNQ | 42 | 21 | 388.15 | 18.48 |
Wake Island Wolves | 8-8 | DNQ | 42 | 22 | 390.67 | 17.76|

Bye week... yes!

Nice job, Ryiot, good stuff. One note about Ether, we have 25 SSB players on roster, 23 one-season, 1 two-season (backup G), and 1 forever (backup FB and STer). Less than half the roster is SSB, and 6 of those are either backups or STOPs. Moreover, I compensate nicely for that by providing my own players as backups; they suck except for Jules Loptoff, a regular slowbuild LB who is inexplicably playing well. I am sure I will find a way to ruin him too.

I would not discount house of rahl. we were in a league we were out leveled in and outmatched last year and still almost made the playoffs. We are finally in a league we match up in so i guess we will see.

The Blues beat mythic dawn in the playoffs, so I think they might belong up with the big dogs

But then Dawn boosted 50 players 3 levels on day 40. They were playing without 50x15 SPs =750 skill points in that game.

Nothing against the Blues, I just think Mythic was laying low and ultimately cost themselves in the playoffs

Good point. I really have no idea where you guys played last season. I just assumed you went 8-8 in a cap 14 league, but if that was a cap 18 league 8-8 looks much better.

Your roster metrics stack up right with all the other teams in those 4-10 spots. The only reason I used S14 performance was as a way to account for gameplanning and translating roster #'s into W's on the dotball field

All in all, I am seeing a solid 12 teams that could very well be playoff teams. It is not often you get this complete competition from top to bottom. It will be a dog fight this year no doubt

These actually look pretty good. The "fighting it out for playoffs" group look to be very competitive.

I moved Rahl up to that next grouping. You guys had better #'s and 10 more players than the Hedonists who I had up there anyway - not really sure what I was thinking there.

Honestly now that I am looking at it, I could have just combined those 3rd & 4th groupings. There isn't really much separating them. It could have just been: 2 really good teams, 2 teams right below them, then 9 teams fighting it out for 4 playoff spots, with 3 teams maybe slightly below everyone else.

That's actually fine with me. I hope more people latch on to the convenient truth rather than the other truths about the way we do things... you know, hacking the game, bribing officials, filming walk-throughs, extortion photos, those kinds of things. Ugly business, this dotball.

Actually, I couldn't afford the $180.00 it took to boost the players until day 40 (Friday). The Blues owner is cool and we PM often. I told him they could take me cause of that and they did. Doomsday Sin, the next game after I boosted was a disappointment. Now my eyes are on Luminiferous Ether. They are one scary team!
