The Theory:

So, I've customized the QB sneak play by using substituting the QB in the play with a FB. I adjusted the output play in the AI so that QB2 would be the QB for the play then I added the FB to the QB2 custom slot in the depth chart. I did not add the FB to the regular QB depth chart (basically so the FB doesn't share playing time with the true QB on non 4th down plays).

I thought it might be helpful to utilize since a FB is much better built and designed to dive forward for a few yards than a QB. Also since he's not passing the ball, i don't expect that there would be any out of position penalty. However, even if there is I think the better build and attributes would greatly make up for any oop penalty.

The results:

I was playing a team that was +9 over us in the overall matchup bars. My team's rushing bar is 24 and their run defense bar is 39. The FB sneak play was run ten times on 4th and 3 yards to go or less. All ten times I got a first down. Here are some of the replays:

4th & 1 results in 6 yard gain

4th & 0.5 results in 6 yard gain

4th & 3 results in 4.5 yard gain

Interesting idea. But in each of those 3 plays a CB has missed the first tackle. I don't understand why the MLB is dropping back and yet a CB is blitzing.

If an MLB was the first to get to the rusher, which you'd expect for an inside run, I doubt the play would have as much success. Do you have any examples where the MLB has blitzed? You'd probably grind out a few inches but I wouldn't want to use it on 4th and 3

Never-the-less, its something I'll look at as most DCs will tag the power rusher, which will be the HB or FB, in those sort of scenarios.

There is at least a 35 % OOP penatly for HB/FB/WR at QB so you will be losing a big chunk of that strength and carrying advantage.

looks like it worked because their DC is clueless. if somebody tagged him and had the brains to blitz 2 LB's you'd be handing them the ball. I mean, this clown is comin out in quarter against a 3WR set on a 4th and short.

Here's the only time the MLB blitzed:

If you really want to screw with people throw a screen out of that formation. Even a Fb can complete that!

Huge OOP, so I think I would rather just do this with an actual QB.

I think the point is to use someone in the QB spot that hasn't been tagged as a rushing QB. This way, you will face a defense that is more exposed to a rushing QB, either up the middle or to the outside, and the 35% OOP is worth it. Just make sure to wait until the last minute to put your non-QB rusher on the depth chart so the other team doesn't see it.

You will have trouble with fumbles if you go this route often. That OOP is pretty damn huge and it's going to show up as an increased chance of fumbling.

Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read this. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
