It all boils down to this. Two 16-0 teams in the regular season facing off for the gold trophy. It's not often that things fall perfectly into place but this time it has. Here's a summary of the matchup.
Ironton - They're just a monster of a team. High level 60s all over the place. They dominated all year long and deserve to be in the title game. There's nothing spectacular here....they just play hard nosed defense and have a rather no-nonsense offense. The strategy seems to be that they know they're better than everyone else and as long as they don't beat themselves, they're gonna win every time. The only tough game they had all season was in the conference championship where Wallachia appeared to find some green kryptonite but even that wasn't enough. The Wamphyrii put up more rushing yards in that one game than the Tanks had given up all season combined. The question is, how do the Tanks respond? Do they make adjustments or just look at things and say "well....we won anyway so no need to go back to the drawing board".
Darfur - Looking at the levels, Darfur doesn't have a chance. But they have looked as good as anyone and unlike Ironton, did not struggle in their conference championship. The Depopulators are likely going over the Ironton/Wallachia game with a fine toothed comb, simply b/c they have a lot of similarities with Wallachia. They were the top two running attacks in the league this season and Wallachia proved that the Tanks can be run on.....and it helps if you're a good guesser
. Also like Wallachia, they have a running QB. James Brown is not a dual threat like the Vicktimizer but he rushed for over 1000 yds and if used the right way, could cause Ironton some problems.
The game - Ironton boasts high level 60s at most positions. The Depopulators will need to not only utilize the Wallachia gameplan but improve upon it to have a chance today. Darfur is 16-0 for a reason and I anticipate their staff will be ready for this showdown. Ironton meanwhile is simply taking care of business. While I wish the best of luck for both teams, I just don't think Darfur has quite enough for the Tanks.
Prediction: Ironton doesn't settle for FGs this time around. Darfur is game and makes a good run in the first half but will not be able to keep it up for 60 minutes. Ironton 24 - Darfur 13
