Well, it was a 13-point win, and we (the STARS) never led and never really mounted much of a comeback. Maybe hammered wasn't the right word, but I was getting tired of "edged out" or "narrowly defeated" or "held off". Besides, I liked the alliteration and the pair of words. Read the original sentence aloud, it just sounds nice.

Eh, understand your point, it was similar to our game...And yeah that sentence is pretty nice
