And then there were two.
I thought I would do something a little different for this weeks big match-up between LHC and Quick Stop. I'm going to give a quick review of both teams season and their road to this big game. It's only fitting that these two teams face off one more time to see who will represent the Lion Conference in this seasons Championship game.
LHC NAKED TURTLES
I'll start with the obvious underdogs in the game. Though it's hard to call a team as dominant as LHC the underdogs in any game it's a label one has to use after the beating they took against the Clerks the first time around.
LHC had a very dominant season right off the bat.
In week 1 they opened the season up against Africa Unite, a team that would end up in the playoffs at the 8th seed in Elephant. It was no contest as LHC went out and destroyed Africa 51-6 with a blueprint they would use through the whole season. Behind the strong running of Fujo and Fastshoes they would pound out the yards while piling them up through the air with the versatile Fastshoes.
They followed that win with a week 2 thrashing of Detroit that ended with a score of 98-14. Detroit was by no means a playoff team but LHC showed it was a team to be taken seriously.
In week 3 they faced their first tough opponent going up against Houston. It was no contest as they put up points in every quarter and won 38-10. Houston slowed down their run game but had no answer for Striker or Fastshoes in the pass attack.
Week 4 saw them demolishing Walburg by a score of 62-10 as Fastshoes continued his dominating ways to the tune of 333 receiving yards and 4 TDs with another 74 yds and 2 TDs on the ground.
Week 5 would give LHC it's toughest foe to date as Port Saint went on to shut out LHCs offense in the second half. Unfortunately for the Legends, the Turtles had already mounted a 28-6 first half lead that would prove to be too much. LHC showed in this game that their defense was just as domineering as the offense could be as they held Port to 4 FGs throughout the game to come away with a 28-12 victory.
In week 6 they went off to Taipei for a game against the Fish Rangers. After a hard fought first quarter that ended at 3-3 LHC fought back hard ant took off with a 20 pt 2nd quarter. The game ended at 58-20.
Week 7 was a massacre against Durban.
Week 8 ended up to be a much tougher challenge for LHC than anyone could have predicted when Fat Jaws came within 6 points of tying the game. Up by only 3 points after the first half LHC had to settle for 2 FGs in the second half as the Badness let their defense loose. It proved to be enough as they escaped with a 23-17 win.
Week 9 brought the only loss to LHC and they will seek to avenge the loss this week when they face Quick Stop again. Quick Stop contained Fastshoes and used a ball control scheme to run the clock and pound out the yardage. LHC managed to put up 31 points but it was nowhere near enough as they couldn't find a way to stop the Clerks from putting up 62 points. After keeping within 7 points after the 1st half they couldn't stop the Clerks from piling on 34 points in the second half to lose this one 31-62.
Week 10 saw LHC come out with a vengeance against the Pirates as they let Fastshoes loose again. They ran away with the game early and never looked back coming away with a 72-31 win.
Week 11 brought a chance for LHC to make a statement and take a stranglehold on the #2 seed that they would never relinquish as they faced off against Sterling. As almost every opponent learned this season, Sterling had no answer for Fastshoes and LHC took off early to take a 17-3 halftime lead. LHC ended up winning 30-13.
In week 12 LHC traveled to Casablanca where they enjoyed their stay immensely. It helped that they thrashed the Sultans to the tune of 132-16.
Week 13 was a bye week against Cairo.
In week 14 LHC had to hit the road again to face a tough Sahara squad. The game was theirs after the first half as they went on to win 48-17.
Continuing their road games in week 15 LHC went to Abbotsford where they throttled the Gnomes 101-0 for their 3rd shutout victory of the season.
LHC finished the season off at home against Bayou. The Bruisers were the left black and blue by the end of the game as LHC went on to win 51-9.
In week 17 LHC found themselves facing Fat Jaws in the first round. They must have remembered very well how close the score was at the end of their first meeting because they came out in the first half and destroyed the Badness putting up 52 points in that half alone. They went on to win 72-7.
Week 18 saw another rematch against Sterling in the 2nd round of the playoffs. With 6 weeks having passed since the last match-up however Sterling still had not figured out how to stop LHCs offense or defense as they went down 13-0 at the end of the first half. The second half was no better for Sterling although they did manage to put up 10 points to avoid being shutout and LHC got the win at 29-10.
QUICK STOP "CLERKS"
There isn't much you can say about the Clerks that isn't shown on the field. They dominate on every level of play and outside of Sahara no one has played them very closely all season long.
They opened up their season against Luxembourg and, like LHC also did, went on to demolish a playoff team from Elephant.
Week 2 saw them take an early season bye at Durban.
In week 3 they went to Fat Jaws and ran away with the game early on to win 59-27.
Week 4 saw the Clerks hit the road to Sahara where they faced their stiffest test of the season. After being down 3-13 the Clerks mounted a huge 3rd quarter comeback as they put up 17 points. They ended up leaving with with a 23-19 win.
In week 5 they went into G-Vegas and almost shut out the Pirates before finishing with a 44-3 victory.
Week 6 saw them face off against Sterling. They came out and took a 13-0 halftime lead against the Bulldawgs which proved too much for Sterling to overcome. Clerks walk away with a 23-10 win.
Week 7 had the Clerks traveling to Casablance where they demolished them 110-12.
Week 8 was another bye against Cairo.
In week 9, the Clerks put up a beatdown against LHC. After taking away LHCs best weapons early the Clerks walked away with a 62-31 win.
Week 10 was business as usual as they butchered Abbotsford 59-3.
Week 11 saw them travel to Bayou where they left the home team battered and bruised as they left with a 70-19 win.
In week 12 Detroit came to town. One wonders if Detroit had done some of the dope they deal as they got needled by the Clerks 122-14.
In week 13 they hit the road to face Houston. Another future playoff opponent that had no chance stopping this juggernaut of a team as the Cowboys were grounded and fell 103-0.
Walburg was up next in week 14 and met the same fate as Houston. A shutout loss, making this the Clerks 4th shutout of the season. Clerks won 65-0.
Week 15 saw the Clerks hitting the road again to go to Port Saint. The Legends fell behind 27-0 after the first half and lost 48-14.
In week 16 Taipei came to town hoping to put an end to an undefeated season. After the Clerks fell behind 0-6 at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, they went on to ring up 13 unanswered points to go into halftime with a 13-6 lead. The third quarter saw the Clerks put up 17 more unanswered points before the Rangers could get another FG. The Clerks took this one 30-16.
Week 17 saw Houston coming back to town for a 1st round match-up. Houston never had a chance as the Clerks went on to pile up the points and win 98-6.
In week 18 Sahara made the trip to Quick Stop seeking to get revenge for their early season loss. The Clerks had other things in mind though as they jumped out to an early 20-0 lead going into the half. The third quarter saw both teams struggle to move the ball as they each only put up a FG which had the Clerks up 23-3. Something lit a fire under the ShadowChasers asses in the 4th quarter though. After the Clerks scored another TD to go up 30-3 Sahara came out like possessed madmen and went on to put up 20 points. That was as far as they got though as they fell short on their last drive when Fred Jackson fumbled the ball on the Clerks 47 yd line. The Clerks must have breathed a big sigh of relief and were nothing but happy to run out the clock and walk away with a 30-23 victory.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Quick Stop vs LHC
So here we are. Both teams have been dominant all season long. Quick Stop is trying to finish off a perfect season with 2 more wins. LHC is trying to get through the Clerks for a Championship game and want to get some revenge after their last game.
Can Quick Stop shut down the Striker to Fastshoes connection again? Can their defense shutdown LHCs run game again? Does Quick Stop have a weakness? Can LHC take anything away from Sahara's strategy to try and get the upset win? A lot of factors going into this game and at the end of it all only the best team will be left standing.
My pick....
Quick Stop. Just too much to handle right now and after that first game LHC really needs to come with something new that the Clerks can't defend. Unless... LHC didn't put everything in their gameplan that first game so as to not give away too much before the playoffs.
Good luck to both teams either way!
