I will start this off by saying I think Barry Sanders was the best. He never had a great O-line in Detroit and a ton of his carries had him getting hit in the backfield then breaking away for some great yardage. If the guy had played for a team like Dallas, San Francisco or another top team of that era he would have easily been the #1 rusher in the game and Emmitt Smoth wouldn't have even been close. I hated to list Dallas as 1 of the teams there as I hate them with a passion. No offense Vegas but I gotta be honest about the NFL.

It was always special watching Barry Sanders run and O.J. was good as well, but the top two on my list are still Csonka and Payton. Csonka for his take no prisoners, run them over rushing style and Payton for his smooth running style and ability to take hit after hit and perform at the same level. Emmitt Smith was very similar in that regard, I just never watched him much after college because he became a Cowgirl.

I would have to say Jim Brown for the fact that he could run around and over LB's and DB's. Tough one here and I would have Sanders right up at the top of the list. Here is one for you, Ladainian Tomlinson, had it not been for injuries the last few seasons his name might have been on the list. Can run for 4+ yards per carry and catch the ball out of the backfield with the best of them....

COuld have been a beast if not for injuries, no way does he belong in the same group with those 2...

I agree, not a top 5 but is certainly a top 5 in the what if bracket...Kind of like LT!

The only reason I dont have Bo all alone as #1 is because of injuries. What little he did play showed me enough to lump him in with them. I doubt we will ever see anyone with his total package ever again.

4.12 40 at 6-1 230 lbs is just ridiculous.

I agree with Jackson being something special but I think you would have to be able to have the stats to make the top 5.

I like the pick of sweetness and Jim Brown but both had decent teams around them. where Barry didn't basically Barry was the only offensive weapon that Detroit had so everyone stacked 8 or 9 in the Box trying to stop him and he was still phenominal.

One thing you guys want to remember about Jim Brown which just enhances his greatness even more is that for most of his career he played in 12 game seasons not 16 like all these other guys being mentioned. He set a record that took quite awhile to break as well with 12 game seasons. He played on not great teams mediocre teams really for most of his career truth be told.

Look at it this way if he had played his whole career with 16 game seasons he would still have the rushing record. Just something to consider.

I will give you Barry was amazing. Sweetness as well. Gayle Sayers is one worth mentioning. LT while has been great has slowed down a lot. Bo..... man that man was incredible. If he had not had the freak injury and had only played FB he would definitely be one of the top RBs. Emmit.... well a good RB but the teams he played on were just so good that it is hard to judge him on his own merits but got to give him a nod. OJ, Tony Dorsett, and Csonka should be mentioned. Hell the Bus even deserves a mention. Before his career is over we might be talking about All Day in this conversation. Adrian Peterson is showing to be one hell of a RB.

However if I had a choice of RBs to pick from all time for my team it would start with Jim Brown.

Nod. Never got to see him play in the pros but saw him a few times when he played college ball.

The game that Bo got hurt in was screwed up. Bo had never been caught from behind and the DB from Cincinnati did just that. Hell I can't even remember who the DB was.

I can see the argument for a few of the older players mentioned but one key thing to remember is the size of the players of that era and then compare them to the same players in this era. the linemen when Jim Brown were playing were around 225 to 250 and smoked like freight trains and worked real Jobs during the week. so they weren't the physical specimens that the players of today were. With players like sweetness and Barry sanders they met a new breed of defensive players. Hell what HB's could say they beat LB's like LT and derrick thomas.

I also agree with the person that mentioned AP he will be a top HB if he can stay healthy.

Isn't AP just a bigger fast version of Jim Brown

I think AP is a bigger version of sweetness but that is just me. there were times sweetness would try to run over guys like AP and then there were times he made some of the sickest cuts and jukes possible. He was something to watch in his prime.
