I'm not new to GLB, but I have a hard time deciding how much Blocking to aim for long-term.

My goal is to get Strength and Blocking to 80 natural ASAP and fill out other attribues later. Planning to super slowbuild.

Generally speaking, what build is better for a right OT who has to run block and block speedy DE's on pass plays?

120 Strength with 80 Blocking
or
100 Strength with 100 Blocking
(This would be like level 56 with 40 pts of EQ to distribute)

I know speed, agility, vision are important as well as SA's, VA's, AEQ.

I've always struggled what Blocking really does? I can see Strength making pancakes and preventing getting pancaked.

120 Strength with 80 Blocking is far better.

From what I can tell, blocking helps you engage and hold a block (with contributions from strength, vision, agility). However, once you hold the block you have to do something with it and that means strength. Which is why I favor strength over blocking.

I'd say most of my OL have 25-35% more strength than blocking and that seems to work well.

If the opposing DE is build right, 80 blocking won't do jack. You'll see the guy shed blocks immediately - so the question is: can you re-engage the DE over and over again.

Unless you got a +hold block chance AEQ piece, I'd say 90 blocking is minimum. Blocking 100+ will usually keep the DE busy all play long, but without proper strength you are more likely to be reverse-pancaked once the DE sheds the block.

All strength OTs rely on getting some lucky rolls first and either pancake the DE or get him out of balance (which makes following "hold block" - rolls easier to win).

Thanks guys. Got a ways to go but appreciate your input!

RAPB, when you say a DE built right are you talking a high agility DE? You are right. I have seen them even break the block and head straight down the line and stop inside run plays. Blocking will help maintain the block so he doesn't get away?

Definately will get Hold Block AEQ to counter their Break Block AEQ. Also the Great Blocker VA will boost 80 natural blocking to 86ish.

I would personally split the difference and go with 110 strength and 90 blocking. You can add great blocker VA so that it is actually 95 blocking, which is plenty as long as you have 80+ agility to go with it.
