I know this is the million dollar question, but how much speed does a Possession receiver actually need. I can understand that Agility may be important for route running, but can catching, jumping and vision actually make up for not having alot of speed or agility. Has anyone ever had success with this type of build. Im not looking to get a lot of YAC just looking to be an effective target in the red zone and to move the sticks (if that is even possible) Im thinking of my end build being something like :
5th cap catching
3rd cap agi and jumping
second capping vision and speed
first capping carrying strength confidence and stamina
and maybe even 4th capping jumping or agility if possible
does anyone have any advise/opinions if a similar strategy has worked or failed (i understand o/c and gameplanning has alot to do with it working)

Typically, the position which does what you described best is either a receiving FB, TE, or HB. Throwing to them is usually more reliable because their coverage (depending on the league and team) isn't as good against the pass as the run. Why throw to a WR for 5 yards if you can send it to the HB who might break a tackle and is less likely to fumble being hit by somebody stronger near the line?
Now if you want someone who will go for 12 yard hooks and make them 80% of the time, build a WR. But WRs need speed and agility to function, period.

60 speed is about the sweet point where you'll start getting receptions against equal competition with a possession build, 80 would be more than more than enough and probably be a target at end build stage to keep the ball coming your way but I always felt that pushing it too high early would limit the important stats. Of course i've had the limitations of being a gen.1 build so no slow building to help out.

For my own build midway through season 5 was when I moved from 50-60 speed (i'd suggest running his log through pbr scout and look at the completion percentages )

In terms of the key stats, catching jumping and vision are all very useful (vision a lot less so) but agility is very much your primary stat (helps get open, helps with catch roll, helps with breaking tackles, etc....). I'd probably look at 68 jumping/catching, 50 vision as a base then tweak as options allow.

i've got 2 guys to test that exact thought:
softcapped speed/agility/carry/vision. their first 2 caps were jumping and catching to 68

one of em has 100 catching
the other has equipment split between jumping and catching, if he ever gets enough fame, prime time player VA could be fun
using catch ball % AEQ on both guys, except the jumper has one piece with jumping catch SA

most of their receptions come from CBs playing off a few yards but they also have some catches where you can barely see the dot because they're so closely covered.
