Ghost Riders In The Sky (6-0): When a team outscores their opponents by an average score of 87 - 8 over a 6 game period, it is very hard to vote against them. Especially when some of those victories come against well respected APL Top 10 opponents. GRitS are on fire, and that is once again reflected in the votes this week, with the Ghost Riders receiving all but 1 of the 1st place nominations. Up next for them are the always deadly Cairo Emperors. Will The Ghost Riders finally be shown as mortal? Time will tell.
Angola Spider Monkeez (6-0): The sole team to take one 1st place vote away from GRitS, The Spider Monkeez are on a roll of their own, dispatching all of their opponents so far. But one cannot notice that at least one of their games was relatively close against SAR. They were actually losing at halftime in that game before shutting out The Ridgebacks in the 2nd half. Tomorrow The Monkeez face off against The Sea Wolves, a team that has owned them 2 seasons in a row. This will be a HUGE battle for Lion and Game of The Week material if I ever saw one.
Somalia Pirates (6-0): The one team without 1st place votes that deserves one..... if not more. An argument could very easily be made that this is the greatest squad currently in APL. They are content with demolishing everyone they meet so far... but in 2 weeks the Game of The Year will be on their doorstep. Until then look for Somalia to do what they do best. Win. Well.
Dar es Salaam Warrior Kings (6-0): I lied. There is another team name that deserves to be spoken every time the elite squads are listed in APL. The Warrior Kings have gone 6 - 0 without playing a single trash team yet. In fact everyone they have faced so far are listed in the 2nd tier of APL. They have won every game easily but unfortunately for them, their schedule is very back loaded with top Lion teams. Their test this season will come all in a row from weeks 12 thru 16. Tomorrow they actually go up against a PHP squad who spent some time in The Top 10, a game they should win given their proven history but also a type of game that could blow up in their face if they take it for granted.
South African Ridgebacks (5-1): I don't want to say it... but I told you so. SAR got knocked off of the radar waaay too fast after losing a strong game against ASM. What did they do? They ran back their next 3 straight and fought their way back up to the 5th spot in record fashion. They get to beat up the Lumberjacks this week before meeting Dar es next week. Stay tuned.
Cairo Emperors (5-1): The Emps lost a close one to The Pirates and took a small dive on the polls for 1 week, but immediately regained their position.. plus. Now they face The Ghost Riders in their greatest chance at jumping to the top spot in the polls. If the Emperors defeat GRitS and GRitS defeat The Pirates next week, you have a new champ on top of Elephant...Cairo. You know that's the way they are writing the gameplan and all token boosts are in effect...I have feeling this game will be much much closer than most people think.
Boston Dogs (5-1): The Dogs felt their 1st taste of pain in APL, out of all of the AAA teams they were the most successful early on in the Pros and the voters have given them their props since day one. But in week 6 C85, an early favorite in Elephant, made their presence felt once again. It has been rumored that The Dogs favorable ranking was a result of their weak early schedule. Another loss may be enough to send them staggering out of the Top 10 and a team like C85 to regain their preseason prominence.
Pangani Peckerwoods (5-1): Another team who has done well for themselves in the 1st quarter of the season. But now PP is reaching their stretch of the year where they have to put up or shut up. Fever, Sea Wolves, Mountaineers, RRK, PHP...come out of this run 3-2 and you make the playoffs. My money is on PP.
Angola Blood Diamonds (5-1): Speaking of bets... Vegas is living up to his name and going apeshit lately trying to get people to bet him with everything and anything. I know his bets are a little on the crazy end but now that Paraboon has left for WPL, you are gonna force me to take Vegas on with something sooner or later. My bets tend to lean toward the $200 end instead of the wear the opposing guys tags stuff, but I'm waiting for one of you to step up and take him on with a legit bet. No matter how crazy the owner is acting the team has to be seen as legit, despite losing to The Dragons last week. ABD dropped 3 spots and meets The Warlords, Emps, and Pirates next. The posing is over, there can be no hiding from these matchups. In the next 3 weeks ABD will either be a certain playoff team or an also ran. Bets or no bets that's just the plain truth.
Dakar Dragons (4-2): The only AAA promotee team to play The Pirates and The Ghost Riders so far. It didn't go well. But they get to play their known enemies in the near future in The Dogs, Kicking D, CdC, and C85. Yeah they are playing for 3rd place this year, but this year's 3rd place finisher can be in position to be next year's APL champ.
Ok Good luck everyone!!!
