Week 4 Recap:
Well here we are, 1/4 of the season is behind us now and every slate of matchups have given us some very exciting games to watch so far. Week 4 was no different...
The Pirates came out on top over the Emperors in the latest matchup between these two known bitter rivals. Somalia's offense was too much for Cairo, despite The Emps ability to cause 2 fumbles. With this big win, The Pirates reclaimed their 2nd spot in the poll behind only GRitS. A team they will meet in week 8.
The Somalia vs Cairo clash may have been billed as the game of the week, but the most brutal conflict of week 4 took place in Lion Conference.
Pagani was host to South Africa in a fight for the ages. These two dynamic teams cannot be more closely matched, and the scoring reflected that fact throughout the game. In what is undoubtedly the battle of the year so far in APL, The Ridgebacks dealt The Peckerwoods a stinging defeat in OT with a 44.5 yard FG by (K)Kee Ker....(get it?) With this win, SAR impressed the voters enough to be spotted in the 7th position, leapfrogging 3 previously ranked teams. They also knocked PP out of the rankings, a fact that will not be quickly forgotten by Jrockk and Co. that's for sure. This is the fantastic shit that bloody rivalries are founded upon, and God help me but I love it so I can't wait till these two teams meet again, and I look forward to those brutal encounters for seasons to come.
Back in Elephant, ABD proved to the voters that they are indeed for real. They dealt the respected up and comer C85 another very tough loss. Vegas and crew also relayed the message to all of the AAA promotees. You may be great on paper, and you may have always won in the past, but these are The Pros.... a whole different animal. Up here there is no easy path to the top. Up here there is no such thing as backing into the playoffs. The voters saw and respected that message and made ABD the biggest gainers of the week, moving up to 5th place.
And what better way to round out the Old school vs New school motif than by mentioning the PHP vs SISW game. This was an important game for both teams, but probably most important for SISW. They needed this win badly just to have a shot to fight their way back into early legitimacy. To fall 1-3 in the Pros is to start looking very early toward next year. PHP wanted to prove that their success in AAA could be repeated here in the Pro League and that they were indeed ready to establish themselves as a contender from the get go. I gotta say both teams represented their arguments for validity very well in this game. SISW came out on top in a close one, but PHP showed that they can absolutely match up head to head with APLs known great teams. That fact was not lost on the voters, as PHP still maintained a position in The Top 10 despite the loss.
Week 5 Games of the Week
#1 Ghost Riders in the Sky at #9 Dakar Dragons
Can GRitS continue their dominance? Or do The Dragons have the stuff to bring them back to earth?
Port Harcourt Playmakers vs Tanzania Mountaineers
Two of the best AAA had to offer. Who wants a spot in the APL Top 10 more?
African Fever vs Kilwa Polar Bears
Two more ex AAA teams just outside everyone's radar. Both could very well be in the playoff hunt come round 2. Ignore these teams at your own peril.
Ok That's it. Good Luck!! and...
