(San Juan) - This time last year the San Juan Cabelleros had just realized that there season meant that they were going to be leaving the Pro League of South America and were headed to the AAA League.

The abysmal season found the Cabelleros only winning 5 games and not qualifying for the playoffs with one of the worst records in the South America Pro Conference.

Team morale had dropped to an all time low. They lacked depth and any star on the team. Their starting quarterback was headed elsewhere on the fastest train that could get him there and a few other promising players left as well.

They started the season on an all-time low as they looked at the AAA League and the Alpha Conference and saw that they would have a very rough road ahead.

After the first game of the season they traded away their starting quarterback for an unreleased amount of cash. The backup quarterback had yet to start a game. The running game was OK, but not great and their defense was being laughed at by the big boys in the Pro League.

Things did not look well.

After the second game of the season with the running game still performing OK and the defense somewhat stepping up the owner looked to start adding some depth. The new quarterback had two dismal games and things were not looking bright.

Then, all of a sudden, things started to change for the Cabelleros. The offense began clicking. The running game became dominant and the unknown rookie free agent started performing.

The wide receiver corps stepped up and the offensive line started pushing people around.

The biggest turn around here was the defense. The front seven started pushing the line of scrimmage and found themselves on their opponents' side of the ball on several occasions. The corner's starting playing lockdown against the oppoositions receivers and after three or four more games they became one of the most dominant units in South America AAA.

The only question remained was how far could they go?

They steam rolled through the rest of the regular season posting league leaders in passing, rushing, receiving, kicking, and team defense. They entered the playoffs with momentum on their side and even though they were the third seed did not stop all the way to the championship game.

The Cobra Kai stepped in and were probably going to be the toughest challenge all season long.

The quarterback stepped up and had 224 yards and two touchdowns. The receivers led by Mike Walker who had 105 yards and two touchdowns. The running game took charge and 125 yards on the ground. The offensive line had only allowed one sack the entire game.

The defense picked up a great game and last minute hold to help secure an overtime period against one of the toughest teams in South America AAA. They were led by Darren Force (8 tackles, 2 TFL) and Parks Dionte (7 tackles, 6 PD).

The gem of the game came off the foot of Kicky McBallstriker (3 for 4, 3 XP) who had the game winning field goal of 45 yards in overtime.

The cinderella season for the San Juan Cabelleros has them going back to the Pro League of South America to fight for another title.

After the game we were able to catch up with Rock McGurk. He had the following to say:

---------------------------------------
Reporter: "Hey Rock you just won the South American AAA League Championship and your team has a ticket to the Pro Leagues. What are you going to do now?"

Rock: WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Rock is taking da team to da Disney World!!!!

Rock: Rock just dont know where it is???

---------------------------------------

The San Juan Cabelleros beat the Cobra Kai in overtime 30-27.
