Teams dropping out of the Top 10: Dakar Dragons, Somalia Warlords, Seychelles Island Sea Wolves

We are only 2 weeks into the season and things are already getting exciting in the Coaches Poll. The Week 2 games did not disappoint. The Pirates introduced The Dragons to the APL in not too friendly fashion by knocking them out of the Top 10 with a 20+ point victory. Despite winning the game, they were passed in the polls by The Spider Monkeez for the 2nd spot, probably due to the Monkeez week 1 victory over the now ranked Cairo Emps.

The Emperors made their presence felt in the Top 10 in dramatic fashion indeed! They defeated the #6 ranked Warlords by punching in a TD with 4 seconds left in the game. WOW!! They not only knocked the Warlords all the way off of the list, but they impressed the voters enough to make their season 11 debut all the way up at the 7th position. They even got a 1st place vote in the process despite having 1 loss. Good Job!

Meanwhile, The Sea Wolves continued their rough start with yet another loss, this time to The Mountaineers. All the respect in the world can't make up for an 0 - 2 start, and The Sea Wolves find themselves outside of the Top 10 for the first time in over 2 seasons. But if anyone can turn it around quickly, it's JDawg and Co.

In another fantastic game, The C85 won in a slobberknocker against The Cobras by kicking a 48 yard FG with 28 seconds left. You can't ask for better finishes then we had this past week... and the year is just beginning. But OchoCinco will not have time to celebrate too long because up next for them is yet another......

Elephant Game of the Week!!
Tomorrow C85 will host the #1 ranked Ghost Riders at Future HoF Field. This will be the biggest test for both squads to date this year. GRitS are coming off two easy wins, but they better not be in cruise control mode. C85 has a very powerful squad and would love nothing better than to take out the early favorite. C85 will need to come out of the gate strong because looking at their schedule, it doesn't get any easier for them in the near future. Waiting in the wings to play them are ABD, The Dogs, and Djibouti. Their crunch time is coming early in the season. These next few weeks will be very telling in Elephant that's for sure.

Other Week 3 games to watch in Elephant:
#8 Dogs at Kickin Djibouti
#3 Pirates at Somalia Warlords

The Lion Conference has no shortage of great games themselves tomorrow.

Lion Game of the Week:
#2 ASM at #9 SAR... The Spider Monkeez have been very impressive as expected this year and they look to continue their quest for the Lion title as they head to The Kennel to face an undefeated Ridgebacks team. The Ridgebacks are an APL staple, and even though they missed the playoffs the last 3 seasons, they are always right there seeming to be on the verge of taking that next step. Is this their time? They won't have a tougher challenge to prove themselves then they will in Week 3. A win over ASM will go a huge way in insuring a spot at the top come playoff time.

But... we have not one, but TWO games in Lion between undefeated teams this week. Tomorrow also has African Fever playing host to PHP. Both teams are right there floating just outside the Top 10. They are both already getting votes by their peers, and the winner of this game will have a great chance at making the list next week.

Another interesting game in Lion will be DeS vs. The Mountaineers. Tanzania just took out The Sea Wolves and this game will be used as a measuring stick for both teams. DeS is a known juggernaut of a squad. If The Mountaineers can take them out as well, we just might have a new sheriff in town. If DeS defeats them easily... that doesn't bode well for SISW, and will mean that they have some heavy lifting ahead of them this year to claw their way back to where they are used to being.

Ok guys that's all this week. Thanks to everyone who voted and Good Luck!!

Toad - another great write up. Great insight into this game. I have no idea what to expect, but I have a hard time believing that anyone who dispatches SISW like that could be a fluke. I'm afraid Tanzania is for real.

The Spider Monkeez are always tough and we hope to give 'em one hell of a fight. I sent my sister over to soften them up for game time. I hope it works...

Cairo Emperors will be hosting EGE in round 3. Not game of the week, but significant match for both teams.

I've rated EGE as one of the new teams to watch out for, especially with some of the GMs on their roster. Also one of the original APL owners, BYANG GMs and has players on EGE.

Top 4 is not that surprising. GRiTS and Pirates are the pacesetters in Elephant. Also happy to see APL originals Dar Es Salaam and ASM still being a force in Lion.
