Yes, I know it's been a while, I apologize for my disappearance on these last season, life caught up to me haha, it was pretty hectic, but here we go. Week 1 has arrived, many of you know the drill but in case you don't, I'll do write ups each week, usually like 5-7 of them, some weeks more some weeks less. Throughout the season I'll try to get EVERYONE involved in my write-ups at least once. I don't put WSR in there often, because well, it's my team , also, please keep something very important in mind, at times within my write-ups, i may get 'critical' of your team, i tend to get more critical of my own, don't take it personal these write-ups are for fun and to keep the Oceania League here fun, nothing more, I have no ill feeling toward any team, and i'm by no means going to be needlessly attacking anyone.
But I hope you all enjoy them and I will be making a secondary thread for requests.
This first week i'm not doing all the different games I usually do, there's too many potentially good games, so I'm going to be doing write ups for ALL 16 games for week 1. The games will flip flop, Alpha, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta, etc, from #1 current ranking to #16 all the way down(game order, not necessarily relation to home or away).
Cascade Cajun Crushers @ Chillicothe Convicts
It all begins with a team once destined for greatness. A team thought unbeatable, that faltered when it mattered most. CCC knows all too well the pains of disappointment as they rocked the Oceania Pro world with a shocking first round lost. This first week in Pro they face a team looking to make a name for themselves against one of the best. There doesn’t seem to be much weakness in either of these teams let alone Oceania Pro altogether, but I believe that considering just how good both of these teams are it’s going to come down to Cascade’s Offensive Line vs. Chillicothe’s Defensive line. The Battle of the Trenches starts in Chillicothe in season 11, week 1.
Sunshine Coast Ridahz @ Samoa Gangsters
SCR had a rough end to season 10 losing their final 4 games of the season but do not think too much on that. This team has greatly improved as has many in Oceania Pro but they were a tough team last year and they look to be tougher this year. Samoa was a beast of a team destined for a potential championship last year now, I think they gotta be #1 or #2 on that favorite list for the championship in Zeta. The task here will be simple yet not so much. SCR is going to have to step on defense in week 1 and prove that the saying is true, lower levels don’t mean squat, their defense vs. Samoa’s Offense. That’s what this game comes down to imo.
Olden Swillers @ Canberra Strike
Canberra & Olden were a couple of huge question marks last season, they won some games maybe they shouldn’t have and lost some they most certainly should have won. They didn’t have the impact I’m sure they both wanted but now is their chance to start off with a huge win. Both of these teams struggled and excelled at different times in the season last year, I think that what they both need is a fast start on the road to winning and the playoffs. Obviously without knowing how the new additions and improved talent will play out yet, it’s hard to use stats in any game write up so I’m not even going to try. But what I will say is yet again, this is another game where there is not many weaknesses if any. This game might be one of the more balanced this week. This is going to come down to the last possession, who has it and what they do with it.
Pittsburgh Steelerzs @ Guadalcanal Gunners
This week we have yet another ‘new comer’ to Pro this season in Pittsburgh. They are going to look to run down the mighty Gunners and send the Gunners back to their hanger with with a sore feeling of defeat. The Gunners were a solid team last season, I have no doubt they’ll be one this season but.. they Gunners disappointed me last season, I expected more out of them, I expected a serious challenge for the championship, no doubt they tried but obviously second chances exist because this season they have one. But don’t think for one second that the Steelerzs are going to just sit down and watch the Gunners run by. Pittsburgh needs to prove they’re not just another face, that they came here to compete, but the Gunners need to prove they’re not the same team from last season, that they came out of preseason as a better team! What does this come down to? Perhaps how much the Gunners paid the officials vs. what the Steelers paid the officials in the Seahawk Superbowl? (don’t worry steeler fans, I’m one of you too)
Sydney Jellybirds @ Taylor Bulldogs
Oh how I remember the Taylor Bulldogs, a team destined for a Championship and like many (including my own team) still looking for one. They could be one of the more underrated Alpha teams this season at face value, they’re a bit under the wings some of the other teams but that never stopped them from competing before. The Jellybirds look to be yet another serious contender in Zeta and let me tell you something….wait wait wait…. What the Fuck is a Jellybird anyway? What was I saying? Oh yea, Um.. something about how Zeta looks like they’re going to be of fierce competition again this season probably. But this game is going to come down to consistency and ball protection. Turnovers = you lose!
(N.M.I) Pagan Fire Eaters @ Brisbane Bulldogs
PFE, too familiar with them am I. They’re a solid team capable of showing up big at any time. They’ve done so in the past and they expect to do so this year. In week one they take on the Brisbane Bulldogs another newcomer to Pro this season. Brisbane has already flexed a little muscle in preseason but then again they also got their muscle flexed by the Wilddogs, although..it is just preseason. So, they’ve done alright in the past, in other leagues will they do alright here? We’ll soon find out, led by Sheen Mathis on defense they look to put a hurt on PFE while PFE looks to drop the Bulldogs like a bad habit. No mistakes in this one fella’s, just one could cost you the game.
Kingston Uprising @ Micronesia Megalodons
Kingston Uprising an all too familiar face that was thought to seriously make a knock for the championship trophy last season and didn’t. They’ve already been called the favorite for the Championship this season, they’ll be facing off against Micronesia. Micronesia is going to be tested in two areas, their ability to pass the ball effectively and their ability to stop the passing game effectively. Two things that Kingston does very well and in this game expect it to be no different.
German Wilddogs @ Perth Pirates
The Wilddogs make their return to O-Pro for another season and they look to put on the display they did last year only in a much more impressive fashion. The Wilddogs too improved this offseason and are looking to make a strong push into the playoffs this season. Their week one opponent, Perth Pirates, may have their work cut out for them, at face value they appear to be right up there with the Wilddogs and perhaps they are but I suspect both of these teams will have some proving to do later down the road. This game I’m going to suggest will come down to the rushing game and who has more success with it.
Orcland Raiders @ Williamsport Soul Reavers
Orcland may be facing off in week 1 against the most underrated but not overlooked team in Alpha based on pre-game ranking. Orcland faired well last season bringing in an 11-7 record from last season. WSR didn’t do bad either racking up a 12-5 record last season. They got an education in their first season in Pro and they got beat down in the first round of the playoffs against the team that would eventually go on to win the championship. Orcland is going to be looking to make a huge statement by beating WSR, which has already been regarded as one of the top 3-4 teams in Alpha. A lot has changed with WSR including their team chemistry which may be the one thing holding them back, it just means they’re going to have to work that much harder and Orcland would be foolish not to try to take advantage of that, as I’m sure many teams will. So WSR has to be careful going into this one, for the wrong decision could cost them.
Solomon Islands Alchemy @ Adelaide Black Snakes
SIA brings to the table a very highpowered team facing off against a team that to be honest, I think may slide down the rankings early this season. SIA is in a very tough conference so to be able to even compete against the best in Zeta they are going to have to come out in week 1 and start strong. In Alpha, I think it may be a bit harder yet to know for sure who the great teams and who the mediocre teams are because of so many new faces over there and the inconsistencies the returning teams had last season. This game is going to be about the Black Snakes’ ability to overpower SIA despite being vastly out leveled. If they can’t do that, they’re more than likely going home with a sorrowful defeat in week 1.
Knox Nightmares @ Gold Coast Vipers
KNOX! The Nightmares started season 10 out with a bang putting down WSR and then off to the pig pen they went, never looking back and never playing with the same intensity. The Gold Coast Vipers didn’t do much better I must say, though the records were a bit different. So this season obviously both teams are going to want to prove they’ve upgraded their capability to compete with the ‘big dogs’. Look for this game to be focused on GCV’s Passing Offense vs. Knox’s passing D.
Atlantis Lost Souls @ Bay City Bohica
Another pair of ‘newcomers to Pro this season. ATL toting around a S10 3A Championship Trophy looks to put their running game to the test against Bay City who’s got a bit of an underrated LB Corps. For some reason though, I think a few weeks in, I’ll be talking about the shockers these teams are pulling off. Expect this one to be much closer than it should be. Watch out for Bay City too, they have a way of sneaking up on people.
Rip City Reign @ Fiji Ventures
RCR has gotten some respect from me this season majorly because I know how they feel, they have a lack of depth this season and in week 1 are going up against a team with NO lacking in depth. Last season WSR and others felt the same pains. I don’t look for RCR to use that as an excuse but in order to beat Fiji without getting exhausted I think they’re going to have to play a lot of ball control. So look for Fiji to try and create some turnovers and make this one end quickly.
Molokai Lavastorm @ Samoa Flying Foxes
Lavastorm is back and even better than they were last season, they should expect to be near the top of Alpha throughout. They face a team in SFF that is looking to compete with the top 3 in Zeta. But sorry gentlemen, I’m not hopping on your bandwagon just yet. In this game I’d look for Lavastorm to try to overpower SFF with their defensive line at the line of scrimmage and make this one a defensive struggle in a hurry.
Auckland Old Gold & All Blacks @ Tasmania Tigers
This game intrigues me the most in week 1. Tasmania is such a great team but they have to be able to finish it off and win that championship. Auckland, well the same thing for them, they have a great team, this game should be great and again like many others it’ll come down to execution and who has more turnovers in their favor. But this ain’t AA and this ain’t AAA, this is Pro and everything has to be done at a higher level. Time to step it up a notch gentlemen.
Christchurch Fighting Maori @ Vanuatu Volcano
Well, it appears it’s Vanuatu’s annual pancake night, I hear there’s going to be a lot of lamination going on…I didn’t ask and I don’t want to know! But what I do want to know is more about these two teams, unfamiliar with both of them they both have strong potential, looking at them face value they could easily be playoff teams and they could easily be busts. For both teams I think its going to be about getting their running game going. It may (or may not) be their weakest point (they don’t really have any weak points imo). Ball control, execution, and that final score!
But I hope you all enjoy them and I will be making a secondary thread for requests.
