Losing one to retirement, ALL four other returning level off end of this season
Would love to get young guys (S4+) in to take over long term. PT will be there, have to contribute now as well as in the future.
Really like fast, smart LBs that can tackle.
Like to be aggressive, pick our spots with personnel.

North Texas THumpers are on the lookout for solid agents & players to contribute now and be the Man of the future. Several current THumpers are getting gray hairs and will be sliding into ST roles or retirement over the next couple of seasons.

Can you help them transition out?
We’re serious about winning (8 of 9 seasons with playoffs, Conference Champs in S7), but have a laid back attitude. Competitors that realize it’s a game.
So how do we approach the game? Simple goals & team concept:
- Everyone plays. PT to max XP or more. See your guy produce, develop on schedule. If the play count drops, we fix it. Not perfect at it, but an honest effort to get everyone there.
- EQ. We drop salaries and bonuses down low (always cover training) so we can plow the cash into your EQ. Want everyone to have every advantage they can get. Bought every piece so far. Owner’s players will wait if it looks tight on cash.
- Long term approach – prefer 2-3 year deals. Return on investment for EQ, continuity of the team. S10 roster averaged 3+ seasons with team – EXCLUDING owner’s players.
- Everyone has input. While we have had some issues with outside coordinators the last couple of seasons, we do look to guys on the roster for input. Be as involved as you want to be. I don’t know everything and neither do you, but together we might just figure it out.
- YOU control your player build. To me it’s a big chunk of the fun trying to figure out the best build. If you have a specific profile (like pure pass rusher), let me know and I can juggle the depth/personnel to make the most of it. Just keep up with your guy and I’m happy – don’t let the team down.
Offensive philosophy?
- Like balance in all things, but will adjust to personnel, scouting, etc.
- Try to be similar to Oakland Raiders of the 70’s – pound it on the ground, vertical throw game. Season 10 was slightly adjusted, will probably revert back to form.
- Season 10 the exception, but usually QB in leaders for yards and TDs, 2 HB in leaders for yards, 1 or 2 for TDs, 2 WRs for yards, 1 or 2 for TDs. Even had a TE hit top 10 for most of the year in yards, another in Pancakes.
- OL has been a solid part of the team from the beginning. Getting a little old, but still a good group. LT is in the top 10 almost every season.
Defensive philosophy?
- 43 base front
- Want to be aggressive, but not just to be aggressive. Overall scheme has to be sound – accounting for all receivers was a hang-up for our outside DC (quit when pointed out). Took a while to get a base AI back in place, but it’s pretty solid now. Want to get the personnel in place to matchup better and maybe allow a more aggressive approach.
- Pretty much man cover only. Have toyed with some zone concepts, but not happy with it yet. Mix and match on assignments, mix cover 1, 0 and man-under concepts based on front and offensive tendencies.
- Will use depth chart slots for situational subbing if we have the right guys.
What do we need?
- We’re looking all over – roster has a lot of early S2 builds.
- We’re always open to any improvement, so if you think you can be an impact guy now and shove our current guys down the chart, fantastic.
- Youth movement is starting. S4+ builds that can honestly contribute today and take over in 1-2 seasons are what we’d really like.
Specific Immediate Needs –
P. Need to replace an inactive guy.
QB. Current starter is retiring. Will carry one, so you’re the guy.
HB. Leading rusher retiring, others aging. Want a season 4 or later build that can contribute and develop into The Guy. We’ve had double 1000-yard guys more than once, I think we can do it again.
WR Have some unknowns here. Could be in the market for 1 or 2 Now guys. Solid S4+ builds needed
DT Losing one to retirement, others aging. After adding some younger edge players last seasons Interior is the focus this off-season
LB Losing MLB to retirement, want 6 total LBs in the rotation. Sliding another quality MLB into starting role – unless you push him back to strong side. Others are aging, need those young guns to come in now. With enough signings can slide my oldest into ST only.
CB – everybody’s trouble spot. Getting old here, need some youth and upgrade if possible.
