playoffs 'n' stuff

western conference
Alma Panthers @ Lone Star Mercenaries Mercenary
Lone Star comes into round one with a 15 game win streak and looks as dominant a defense as anyone, with the highest they've let up during the regular season is 24 points. Alma comes off a bad loss to the same team they get in the playoffs. At times this team has a monster offense and at other times they have a stifling D. They need to get on the same page for an upset.

My pick: Lone Star.

Eugene Cobras vs Copenhagen Lion Cubs
Eugene was a trendy pick for the PW19 title at the season's start, but questionable slip-ups to Lone Star and Appalachian have left some scratching heads. The confusion was only compounded after getting blanked 33-0 in the Dub J bowl. The Cobras are still one of the better defensive units in the league and their offense isn't bad either, but they need to put it all together. Copenhagen looked real good with a juggernaut offense but has gone CPU.

My pick: Eugene by a coupla hundred.

Little Rock Channel Cats vs West Philadelphia Honkers
Despite it being Dub J's first time in PW19, the Channel Cats have turned out to be a major force, beating marquee names such as NOLA and Eugene and even a cap 21 team in a scrimmage. The defense is a top 10 ranking in the league and have a stable of very good running backs to choose from. West Philadelphia is another first time team. They've had a top 10 offensive attack and most notably exploded for a 90 point output agaisnt Bowling green, but at times because of their defense their box scores resemble more a basketball game than a dotball contest. If the D comes full circle they're a force to be reckoned with.

My Pick: West Philly. Yeah, I'm playing favorites. What'chu gon' do? :v

Appalachian Mountianeers vs NOLA Kangaroos
Appalachian has looked good from the start, even in an opening loss to True Blue. They have a top five offense and rank 2nd in the run. However their D needs tightening up as they rank 17th overall. NOLA has been different animals this season. At times they are dominant and look like the top team in the league, at others you look at the box score and go, "Wha?" NOLA definitely has the D to go a long way, but their offense needs more from both the air and the ground. It will be a close game.

My pick: NOLA.

Eastern Conference
New Orleans Pee Wees vs Hollywood Hooligans
Hollywood comes in after dropping two games and possibly could have been 10-5-1 with a win over INDY. They do have a very good run defense and an offense in the top half of the league, but something needs to click. New Orleans is a dominant team and the only undefeated left in PW19. They pass, they run, they defend, and they're a tough squad to match up against. One of the knocks on them is that they seem like a different team against elite competition, but they have the parts to go all the way.

My pick: NOPW.

Thunder Bay Wolfpack vs True Blue
Thunder Bay comes in as a possible sleeper, having just upset True Blue 21-6 in their final game. At times however, they have had a stagnant offense most notably in a 7-7 snoozer against Hollywood. True Blue has looked good at times but at others looked like a different team. They have a great D but the knock on them is that the O hasn't always shown up. They've also dealt with turnover issues with a ratio of -3. This'll be a defensive struggle.

My pick: Thunder Bay.

Baltimore Gulls vs Tha Black Mambos
Baltimore comes in a high powered offense that ranks tops, having scored 100 points or more in nine of sixteen games, and 79 points or more in twelve of sixteen games. The only thing that can hold them back is their pass defense- ranked dead last in the league. Tha Black Mambos say they are slow build, but make the playoffs at 10-6. They are in the top 16 of most categories including total offense and defense. They need a big game from their relatively nondescript offense.

My pick: Baltimore.

Pee Wii Warmageddons vs Normandy D-Day Invaders
Pee Wii comes in with top 5 offenses and defenses. The D against the rush is superb, but a loss to Hollywood have some scratching heads. Normandy is not elite in an one category, but very solid in all. They have had big wins and questionable losses, but at their best they are a threat to upset.

My Pick: Pee Wii.

I would love to see my team pull a upset against Lone Star but the chances of that happening our slim and none. Lone Star is the best team in the League.

Very nice again Murp. I think this year we have handled the elite teams quite easily so far, however. I know things will be close if we meet Baltimore again. Each previous playoff game against Baltimore has been decided by 7 points. We have a few tricks left up our sleeve though!

I'm hoping you don't get a rematch with Baltimore

Lol, that would be my fault. I'm a rookie DC, and I made mistakes along the way.
