Actually doesn't even always mean a conference is better.
For example, two conferences are equal in talent, teams ranked 1-8 (for demonstrative purposes), with 1 being the best.
The Matchup:
Conf 1 Conf 2
1 v 2
2 v 3
3 v 4
4 v 5
5 v 6
6 v 7
7 v 8
8 v 1
In this case, conference 1 goes 7-1 vs conference 2, even though the conferences are evenly matched.
I don't remember where I learned this, but it was something I realized when planning for something.
