So I tried to do a little preseason comparison of Alpha Conference teams. We went undefeated, so I was feeling like a special boy and tried to get a better read on who the true top teams were. Unfortunately, the only real data I came away with was that the Zeta Conference sucks ass and the Alpha conference is going to be more of a bitch than I thought it'd be.

NINE Alpha Conference teams went 3-0 in the preseason (all of them with a total margin of victory above +100). That's ridiculous. If I recall correctly, there was only one undefeated team in Zeta - the Red Sea Wave. So it looks like it's going to be a fierce fight in the Alpha Conference for the right to play the Wave - who should coast to a conference title in Zeta.

Could be an element of truth to that. But what an absolutely amazing streak of random luck that GLB would make a brand new league & mysteriously put all the teams who don't care and don't try during the preseason in one conference, and all the teams who do care & do try in the other.

I don't put a lot of stock into the preseason. Most teams have been using their scrimmages for testing and/or had their AIs disabled.

Every season I see teams that do well in the preseason and stumble during the regular season. That's because they were actually gameplanning for the scrims while their opponents were just testing.

If teams don't use AI during preseason then how do they test it to make sure things are correct in certain situations? Do they test this during the season?

Offensively you just use basic tactics and let it run pretty much what it wants and see how your players perform in certain plays. Defensively you set most of your outputs at 0 so you can isolate the plays you want to test.

There are outputs and plays that are pretty much proven and it's not really necessary to test anything with them.
