Has anyone ever noticed Shock Block doing anything for a guard? I currently have an AE piece with foundation and plus 2 speed on my guard. I rolled a Shock Block with plus 2 agility and was considering switching. Foundation sounds more useful to me but I don't know either way. On the other hand I'd rather boost my agility than my speed. Any thoughts?

Foundation is currently one of the most popular pass blocking SAs for all O linemen. Shock Block may become popular after this season. It may become the counter to the defensive line stun move. You have a very hard choice. Your current AE is proven. The AE you rolled may become hot fast. I personally would stop rolling and keep the item in my shop so I could decide later.

I have yet to be impressed with shock block on my OT, although it's not nearly as high as foundation. Foundation made a noticeable improvement in pass protection.

Confuses me a bit pancake is in there for passing plays. Anyway, shock block wont help you on the FIRST roll, but if you WIN the first roll, then you have a chance to shock them. If you do, they don't get to come back at you for a few ticks, meaning less chances for them to stun you.

So Shock Block wont really COUNTER the stun move the DEs use, however if you can avoid being stunned early and shock them first, you should keep the QB safe for long enough.

So it does sound very useful to me. It wont help you if you are just TOTALLY overmatched and they run right around you / win the first roll most of the time. It sounds to me it will help a lot in even matched battles on the line. It's their stun vs. your shock. Otherwise it's a losing battle - you each do small little pushes until somebody stuns the other. If you can't stun them... well they are eventually going to get by you.

Just some thoughts, I've never used shock block but it does sound good

Octowned is correct. Shock block is pretty much the opposite of the d line's stun ability. You just have to have an SA to make it work.

Yet I think it's much less likely that shock block will work versus the DEs "stun ability". I reckon that it's almost impossible for an OT to have a successful shock block based on the amount of strength+agility needed compared to average DEs. For a LG, it may be more likely...it may not be though.

I wonder if it would be handy for a LG to shock block a DT and maybe pickup a LB while the DT is stunned?

Boy, my LG got stunned a lot by the DE in a 3-4 last scrimmage and just so happens has SB sitting in the store. Thinking strongly about switching out pancake with it. Should work same way versus a DT right?

I would certainly rather have shock block than pancake. What is a LG doing with pancake? That's a complete waste. LG is a pass protector. Shock block is acceptable but hold block, foundation, or pass block would be better.

Darren, first, thanks for the response. He has pancake because it was a semi-useful storage piece purchased with team money early in his career when storage was necessary, and when my guy spent a lot of time on the strong side. Obviously didn't hurt this team last season. He's just now starting to shop for useful end type pieces and like I said, I'm looking to switch it out with something more appropriate.

I think I'm going to gamble and pick SB up and see how well it works because he's just been getting killed by D-linemen. and I'll continue to look for a second piece of the variety you mention. VERY helpful with those, thanks again.

So shock block sounds pretty good for a LG. What is the key SA for a RG?

My RG recommendation is 6-10-6 in the bottom tree, using AEQ to accomplish the 10 on get low, and an additional +% hold block chance piece of AEQ to complement. 0 in the top tree.
