Two more nailbiters got the attention of PW19 today. With a berth in the championship game at stake, the four remaining teams went all out to secure a spot. Both games were exciting and came down to the final plays of the game
In the western conference, Lone Star won 14-13 on a game winning, field-streaking pitch in the closing minutes of the game. Trailing by seven with 1:56, and needing a touchdown to win, rushing touchdown leader Walter "Sweetness" Payton busted out a 50 yard run from midfield to take the lead. After Morten jr Andersen was unable to get his 46 yard field goal attempt through the uprights in a last-ditch effort for NOLA, the Mercenaries sealed the game on a 51 yard run by Bob the Scrambler, nearly taken to the house again if not for a tackle way downfield. Payton, the dot credited with winning the game, had 141 yards rushing in the victory.
On the Eastern side, Baltimore won their conference championship 35-28. The higher-scoring, but nonetheless close affair was highlighted by Lord Ba'al's 191 yard, 4 TD day. The game went back and forth; and Baltimore nearly saw the season go away as Pee Wii drove up the field. With six ticks on the clock remaining, on a fourth and eight, Sam I'll Bam Cunningham caught a screen from Hammond Raines and drove up the field in a convoy, and for a series of seconds, the fictional fans in the crowd held their collective databreaths as Cunningham surged upfield. But then, the player trailing him, Ramone James IV, who had made himself known previously with three tackles for losses, pulled him down from behind, and that was it. Baltimore had won.
And just like that, the stage is set for the championship game. No dot wants to see their efforts wasted. Another subplot is the rematch; Lone Star met Baltimore in the S8 championship, a matchup which the Mercenaries Mercenary won handily, 41-12. If one thing can be told, that this game will be a lot closer than the previous.
And you'll want to watch.
