#1 -- With a 41-7 win over Somalia, LOL regained first place in the rankings by a single game in strength of record. Now we get to see if both LOL and SLS make it to the Ivory Bowl.

#2 -- SLS easily defeated Zimbabwe 45-7 to complete their perfect season in Elephant and enter the playoffs as the top seed. The only blemish on their record is the 41-48 loss to Lion's Nairobi in week 1, possibly a bad sign if SLS makes it to the Kingdom Bowl.

#3 -- DD only gave Tea Baggins 24 plays and as a result had a 72-13 scare against SoA. Guys, it's obviously too early to talk about dominating. Still, DD's only losses this season came against the #1 and #2 teams and I wouldn't necessarily expect the same results in the playoffs.

#4 -- SISW finished strong with a 57-7 victory over ASM to take the top spot in Lion. Their two losses were early in the season and by a combined total of 6 points.

#5 -- Sahara jumped two spots with a 37-17 win against DeSWK and finished as Lion's 4th seed. A home game may not seem quite as important now that media revenue kicked in but it's still going to help.

#6 -- DeSWK dropped one place after losing to Sahara. Still a dangerous team but a 2-4 record over the last six weeks is disturbing.

#7 -- Somalia fell one spot after losing to LOL. No shame in that but their odds of making it past round two don't look good.

#8 -- Angola Dream finished their late-season climb with a 31-24 win over Ethiopia and a 6-game winning streak.

#9 -- ASM dropped one place after the loss to SISW. They'll face the Angola Dream team in round one after winning the same matchup 33-22 in week 8.

#10 -- The Rhinos came charging back after a 1-3 start to grab 2nd place in Lion and finish in the top 10 in rankings. It won't be easy to repeat as APL champions but I like their chances of making it to the Pride Bowl.

The playoff teams and rankings:

Lion

1 Seychelles Island Sea Wolves (14-2-0) #4
2 Windhoek White Rhinos (12-4-0) #10
3 Angola Dream (12-4-0) #8
4 Sahara ShadowChasers (12-4-0) #5
5 Dar es Salaam Warrior Kings (12-4-0) #6
6 Angola Spider Monkeez (11-5-0) #9
7 Rwanda Royal Knights (10-6-0) #14
8 Nairobi Warthogs (10-6-0) #13

Elephant

1 Sierra Leone Stallions (15-1-0) #2
2 Lake Opeta Legionnaires (15-1-0) #1
3 Doinitin Djibouti (14-2-0) #3
4 Somalia Pirates (12-4-0) #7
5 Ghana Buffalos (11-5-0) #12
6 The Last Gunfighters of Texas (11-5-0) #11
7 Congo Cripplers (9-7-0) #15
8 Cairo Emperors (8-8-0) #17

Thanks for taking the time to do these Doc. Been a great read all season. In fact, they're so damn good, I say we petition Bort so we can use these as playoff seeds (tic)

ABD is down to -32.23861655 now. It's the same calculation as always:

1. Each week the members of the private APL Ranking forum post a random number between +10 and -10 for each team.

2. In a second thread, each member posts his guess for what each team's total will be.

3. I copy the first numbers into the spreadsheet and use the sum as the quality of play value for the power ranking, then post a preview in the private forum.

4. The person with the nearest guess gets to adjust any team's strength of record up or down by five and also gets to specify the predicted winner and spread for one game.

We have a pretty good time and it helps keep the spreadsheet from hitting 100% accuracy each week. With a few exceptions, each team gets to have as many agents in the forum as they had wins the previous season. Obviously, this keeps a few teams artificially near the top of the rankings since the agents usually bump their own team up, but overall it's fair enough.

Hokiemon helped me contact each team and told me which ones wanted to be part of this system. Even though you weren't interested, I'm surprised you don't remember the invitation.
