Chris Bortensen of ESPN Africa has the report.
"Shocking news out of UN headquarters, where it has been revealed that star WR Freddie Mitchell is calling it quits after the current season.
"Mitchell, whose performance has been erratic over the past two seasons due to gameplan changes and hard partying, has decided to walk away early despite still having a few more seasons left under his belt.
"Mitchell commented briefly on the report: 'Yeah it's true. I'm done. I'm sick of this shit. I have nothing left to prove. I have a BBQ in Lakeland, FL to manage, a blog to run, and weed to smoke. I'd rather do that than block for bitchy little running backs who don't respect the greatness that is the Sultan of Slot.'
"Mitchell went on to say, 'No, this isn't the end of an era. It's a new beginning. I'm expanding my persona from just Africa. We're going worldwide, baby. I don't need football to make my name known in every home on the globe.'
"Rumors have spread about Mitchell possibly taking a commentator role on ESPN Africa. Mitchell addressed these by saying, 'It's in the works. We'll see if it gets hashed out, but I'd love to bring my unlimited football knowledge to the TV screen. You know the body, but you don't know the mind, and trust me, it's just as sexy.'
"The report suggested that teammates Koy Detmer and Jumbo Fisher would also be retiring, but they were not available for comment."
