My apologies for missing out on Week 3 of the rankings, RL has decided to kick me in the nuts a couple times this week and I haven't had as much time as usual for GLB. But fear not (as if anyone really was) for I have returned after a couple of very interesting sims to provide everyone with the latest installment of these rankings.
1.) Sportsrant.com Stalkers
Sportsrant officially earned its top seed with a nailbiting victory over the Madmen. In one of the most exciting sims that I have watched in the league thsi early in the season, the Stalkers pull ahead with a last-minute TD run from their star HB and officially markt hemselves as the team to beat in the East. The Night Marchers now loom on the horizon in a battle of veteran USA A#2 teams that Sportsrant won by a single TD a season ago.
2.) Minneapolis Masterminds
MM's offense basically did what it pleased, especially Xavier, as it rolled to an expected victory over the Cowboys. However, North Texas did a great job control the ball through the air (not something you see everyday) and kept the game much closer than I had initially anticipated. MM has the Rainmakers on deck for Monday before their real schedule begins and we see how deserving they are of their current ranking.
3.)Motor City Madmen
After dismantling their first few opponents, MCM was a last-minute defensive stop away from claiming the top spot in these rankings. Still, there is no shame in barely losing to the top ranked team, and their performance could arguably have had them jump MM. Now they look to rebound against Cincy and then Florida, before their huge showdown with MM in a little elss than a week.
4.)Rutgers Silent Willies
RSW takes down the Cougars and now has three cupcakes before hitting a difficult midseason stretch of their schedule. It's pretty tough to lose when you average double digit yardage per carry ont he ground, as Rutgers just did. While they are currently the worst ranked of the three undefeateds, they clearly have the ability ot defeat anybody in this conference.
5.)Pensacola Dolphins
The Dolphins took down a solid Rampage squad and now faceoff (in a huge game) against another good team, the Krakens, this Monday. Their only blemish is a ten-point loss to a Rutgers team that looks very good at the moment. Pensacola would love to average the amount of yards per play on the ground and through the air that they recently pulled off against Detroit. You are more than difficult to defeat when your offense put son that type of performance.
6.)St. Louis Sidewinders
There is a part of me that thinks the Sidwinders should be higher in the rankings than six, but at the same time they still lack (I know it's early) a signature win to show me just how good they are (did someone say MM?!?). Nevertheless, two gimme games with a showdown with the second ranked team sandwiched in between has St. Louis thinking about going 5-2 and rebounding from a couple difficult losses against top teams in the conference.
7.)Tampa Bay Krakens
Tampa squeaked by the O'ahu behind a solid ground game and an air attack that was good enough. Oh yea, I forgot to talk about how Hans Moleman turned in one of the greatest individual performance GLB has ever seen from a non-offensive player... in 14 plays!!! Bones Brigade breathed a sigh of relief after this one and then (and this is from the rumor mill) supposedly sent multiple protitutes to Moleman's room as a "job well done" present after the game.
8.)Detroit Rampage
It's a tough pill to swallow when you offense puts up 500+ total yards and you still end up on the short end of things. The rampage were unable to recover from a disheartening second quarter that saw their secondary get torched twice for long TDs. Detroit was forced to settle for FGs in the beginning while Pensacola's offense generally went for six. Now they face a huge game against Corona that is basically guaranteed to have major playoff implications at season's end (aka game of the week).
9.)Corona Del Mar Cougars
The Cougars have won when they were supposed to, lost when it was expected, and now find themselves face-to-face with a four-game stretch that will tell all of us just what the Cougars are made out of. Each game is winnable, but at the same time is also rather loseable (if that's even a word), but an 0-fer would be devastating for the playoff aspirations that Cougars currently have.
10.)Cincinnati Norris Ninjas
Cincy kept it closer than I anticipated against the Sidewinders, although a closer look shows that they fell behind early and then St. Louis just cruised steadily behind their ground game. Despite this, the Norris Ninjas find themselves up a spot in the rankings with the abysmal start that O'ahu finds themselve sin the midst of. Unfortunately for Cincy, they now draw a pissed off MCM team followed by the team that pissed of that MCM squad. Uh oh.
11.)O'ahu Night Marchers
O'ahu's offense put up almost 600 yards of total offense and held up their end of the bargain as the Night Marchers just missed out on their first win of the season and are continuing to dig themsleves into an early-season hole. Things don't get any easier either as they now draw the top-ranked Stalkers. O'ahu looks the right their ship, and fast.
12.)Orange County Old Farmers
OCOF finds their record at .500 for probably the last time this season. After already drawing a majority of the cupcakes this conference has to offer in Season 9, the Old Farmers now have a daunting task ahead of them if they are to have nay type of impact on the playoff race. Unless Orange County suddenly gets nicknamed "Upset City," OCOF will continue catch up and look forward to competing for a playoff spot in the seaosn to come.
13.)North Texas Cowboys
The Cowboys look to go 2-3 with an expected win over San Antonio looming before hitting a rough stretch of games that seems to inevitably take them to 2-8 before their showdown against OCOF. However, the Cowboys did keep it closer than expected with MM as was previously mentioned, so I see some light at the end of the tunnel for these guys as time goes forward.
