Ok so I tweaked things. These rankings are based on QUALITY WINS mostly. There is a bit of a contribution from overall team talent as well as strength of schedule and scoring margins. So if you're a good team but you haven't played anyone tough, then your rating may be low (go figure). Once you beat someone decent you'll move up. The rating scores are next to the team:

1 Mudville Bombers West 0.743
2 Houston Cougars West 0.739
3 Texas Tarheels East 0.653
4 Big Money Dynasty West 0.598
5 Cuban Raft Riders East 0.573
6 Houston Armageddon East 0.474
7 Port Moody PAIN East 0.473
8 Lynchburg Lightning West 0.473
9 British Columbia Beasters East 0.471
10 Florida BeachDogZ East 0.435
11 Big Whiskey Assassins West 0.413
12 Columbus South Caralackey's West 0.391
13 Knights of the Dark Realm East 0.354
14 Lincoln Freedom Warriors East 0.352
15 Minnesota Eagles West 0.350
16 San Jose SkyForce West 0.324
17 Oregon Orangutans West 0.295
18 Bronx Black Flag East 0.292
19 INYA ONYA West 0.278
20 Springfield Patriots West 0.234
21 Teikoku Alexanders East 0.207
22 Victoria Teabaggers East 0.205
23 Nic Cage 4-Ever <3 West 0.203
24 Atlanta Dogs of War East 0.170
25 Austin Wineswilling Fancy Boys West 0.155
26 Phoenix Scorpions West 0.121
27 Alamo City Souljahs East 0.113
28 Richmond Empire East 0.111
29 Frostburg Bobcats West 0.100
30 Texas Presidents East 0.040
31 Kaiser Cougars East 0.035
32 Austin Alcoholics West 0.020

As of now the West sneaks ahead of the East with 3 of the top 5 teams. Let me know if something looks really way off, there may be an error or 2 in here.

Games of the week

West
Mudville Bombers vs. Big Money Dynasty

Big Money has started the season out scorching as they took care of East contender British Columbia as well as the Springfield Patriots. It wasn't just the quality wins that Big Money has impressed with, but the completely different ways in which they have won each game. Against BC, Big Money won with smoke and mirrors as they lost the turnover battle and gave up over 400 yards of offense. Everything pointed to a BC win in this game except for the scoreboard as Big Money bent on defense but didn't break. However against Springfield, the running back trifecta of Speedy Dallas, Blues Man, and Black Domina gained over 500 yards on the ground. If the Dynasty is going to be successful against Mudville, I believe they're going to have to utilize a more balanced attack as Mudville has only given up 80 yards on the ground over two games.

Speaking of Mudville, they just keep doing what they're good at; running the ball and stopping the run. They have a bit of an X-factor with return man Hornby Island Harv who returned a remarkable 5 punts for TDs against Minnesota in week 2. The bombers aren't necessarily all that flashy, but they do everything right. After 60 minutes on the field with them, you're ready for the ice bath; ask Victoria or Minnesota

Mudville 65, Big Money 30

East
Houston Armageddon vs. Cuban Raft Riders

Two of the top teams in the east collide this week as the upstart Houston Armageddon take on the Cuban Raft Riders. Last season, the Rafters took care of the A#4 neophyte Armageddon by picking off now departed "Korean Cannon" 3 times. However, Houston has made some key off-season moves to move into the small group of eastern conference contenders. It became clear that a solid rushing game is necessary in A#4 and the team must rely on more than just their elite TE Alex Incognito. The revamped O-line and backfield duo of Rusty Burchfield and Joe Elfback have been brought in to do just that. Add in dynamite QB Bryan Pearson and the Armageddon look a little different than they did last year. The question is will it be enough to contend for a home playoff game in the tough east? Oh yeah, their defense is ok, too.

The Cuban Raft Riders are a team that many may not list as an elite team in USA A#4 except for the week that you have to spend preparing for them. I think it's because they don't have one specific thing that you must gameplan to stop. They're solid at every position and if you focus on one specific thing, then they're gonna beat you with something else. They sport no chinks in their armor, and they should be in the top 2 in the east at season's end. But shhhh, don't tell anyone.

Cuban 37, Houston 28

That sounds pretty fair, actually. I was personally expecting us to get trounced by Springfield, so I wouldn't be surprised to get bombed by the...well, Bombers.

Give us a day to hit print-screen on the league standings page, though...22 wins in a row is something I want to memorialize before it ends.

22 wins is impressive. The Bombers never got half that. Kudos to you.

Yeah you guys retained your winning streak longer than we did.

I still scoff at the #16 ranking.

Speaking of rankings, don't forget to check your players' awards pages. I figured most people already knew about this but I happened to run across it yesterday.

Unfortunately there's just not enough data to be really accurate. The emphasis on the rankings is QUALITY wins. You lost against a quality team, but your score was pretty decent so that helped you out some. Unfortunately beating up on Frostburg doesn't impress the algorithm very much. Beat somebody real and watch your team move

Yeah they're still fun, even if they're wrong...j/k.

I don't think that "real" opponent will be coming against the Cougars. We'll just try to save face in that contest.
