Europe East AAA #2 Power Rankings
created by sawedust

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to this week's edition of sawedust's EEAAA2 Power Rankings, (unofficially) sponsored by Verizon. Can you hear me now? Yeah, but wish I didn't. Power rankings postponed so can lead an unplanned shoot for my director's gig.

My apologies for keeping everyone waiting, if I had known it would have taken this long I would have relegated the writeup to someone else for this week's rankings. However, better late than never!

My predictions came true this week with no team being undefeated in EEAAA2 this season. Lafayette's run at perfection was ended by the mighty Stalingrad Gryphon Army in a tight game that was a defensive struggle for two of EEAAA2's best teams. Both teams showed great heart in this one, but the league's number one defense was not able to stop SGA's offense as the Gryphon Army prevailed, 13-3.

Barger Hill successfully bounced back from their loss to Detroit last week with a nice 31-17 win over the Dnipropetrovsk Express. BHB is determined to prove that they are still the best team in the Alpha Conference, and the victory over DXP has them back near the top.

We are nearing the end of the season, and a ballot is being created to determine who will be our EEAAA2 All-European team. Expect to see that in the next couple of days.

For those of you who are new to the sawedust Power Ranking system, here's an explanation of how these rankings have been set up:

The following statistics have been broken down into two parts: Overall Season and Last Four Games. The "Overall" portion takes into account a team's performance over the entire season. The "Last Four Games" portion takes into account a team's recent performances. By using the L4 in my stats, I am able to accurately gauge how well a team is currently doing (if players were signed/released, etc). Anyway, here are the stats used...

Win-Loss
For the most part, winning is everything. More wins equals more points in the rankings.

Strength of Schedule
This determines the level of opponents a team has faced.

Margin of Victory
There is no room for sympathy in GLB. Blow your opponents out in order to move up in the rankings.

Points For/Against
This gauges the overall strength of a team's offense and defense.

Miscellaneous
Players, tactics, etc.

NUMBER CHANGE AGAIN
Conversion got messed up and skewed the rankings to something completely different, so I considered posting the actual, uncoverted numbers. However, most of the teams are in the negative and I feel that it is not representative of how well some of these teams are actually doing. So for this week's rankings, I will just throw a number out there. The actual numbers are actually somewhat insignifcant after the top five spots outside of determining where the teams rank.

Upon request, I will post your team's stats (SoS, MoV etc) if you feel your ranking should be re-looked at. Keep in mind I am quite busy during this week and any additional requests I might not be able to fulfill for you at this ttime, but I will do my best.

So with that out of the way...

Here are your OFFICIAL Week 12 Power Rankings!

THE TOP TEN

1. Stalingrad Gryphon Army (11-1), 46.839
SGA finally makes it to the top, defeating Lafayette in a game that may be one the best games played all year. The usually potent and hard-hitting SGA offense could only manage three scores against the Rajun Cajuns, a testament to how dominant LRC's defense has been. Could this be a preview of what's to come in the Zeta Conference championships? Last game: Win at Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (11-1), 13-3... Next game: At home vs. Nebaska Huskers (5-7)... Last week: #2 (+1)

2. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (11-1), 46.06
A tough loss for LRC against the Gryphon Army, but they came very close to retaining the top spot despite a 13-3 loss. Lafayette has been playing spectacularly this season, and SGA's 13 points were the most points put up by any opposing team this season. The Rajun Cajuns have very difficult closing schedule that will test their confidence coming out of their first loss. Last game: Loss vs. Stalingrad Gryphon Army (11-1), 3-13... Next game: Away at Austin Pirates (8-4)... Last week: #1 (-1)

3. Prague Monarchs (11-1), 41.669
cherrie and her Prague Monarchs are Alpha's top-ranked team for the second week in a row, thanks to a 45-0 shutout of the recently "gutted" Wisla Krakow. The Monarchs were happy, yet a bit disappointed at what happened to their competition this week. They won't face the same issues with their next three game stretch, highlight by Week 14's showdown with Barger Hill. Last game: Win vs. Wisla Krakow (5-7), 45-0... Next game: Away at ATL Riders (6-6)... Last week: #3 (same)

4. Barger Hill Burglars (11-1), 40.959
Officially, BHB holds the number one spot over the Prague Monarchs in the Alpha Conference. The Burglars are on a mission to score big on their remaining opponents after the loss to Detroit ended their perfect season. Prague in Week 14 should determine who gets home-field advantage in the Alpha playoffs, and LRC in Week 16 very well could be a preview of the EEAAA2 Championship game. Last game: Win vs. Dnipropetrovsk Express (7-5), 31-17... Next game: Away at Wisla Krakow (5-7)... Last week: #6 (+2)

5. Krakow Outlaws (11-1), 38.58
The Outlaws destroyed farm team Rostov-on-Don 83-0 in a game that wasn't even close from the start. Krakow is struggling in the power rankings due to their current SoS4 ranking last in the league at the moment, but wins over Nizhny and Elancourt should push them back up if the outlaws happen to win. Last game: Win vs. Rostov-on-Don Ducks (0-12), 83-0... Next game: Away at Nizhny Novgorod Vetz (6-6)... Last week: #4 (-1)

6. Amsterdam Dirty Dozen (9-3), 26.063
Amsterdam is looking more and more like the undefeated championship team they were last year in Europe East A last season, and a strong 58-0 win over the R U N? Blackshirts makes their argument for a high-seeded playoff spot much more valid. The only troublesome game ADD has left is Detroit in Week 15. Last game: Win vs. R U N? Blackshirts (2-10), 58-0... Next game: Away at Minsk Berzerkers (5-7)... Last week: #7 (+1)

7. Windy City Bears (9-3), 26.063
Windy City barely pulled off a win against a less-than-average Nebaska team, relying on a game-winning 45-yarder from Strong Foot to put the Huskers away. Demoniak, San Jose, and Krakow will be looking to capitalize on WCB's underachieving performance in the upcoming weeks. Last game: Win at Nebaska Huskers, 20-17... Next game: At home vs. Demoniak Piggies (8-4)... Last week: #8 (+1)

8. Detroit Cheetahs (8-4), 23.333
Yet another disappointing loss for Detroit sends them to a 3-3 record in the past six weeks, quite unexpected from a confident team such as the Cheetahs. Coach K returns to his duties as master tactician and will be calling the plays once again. Last game: Loss at Combat Warriors (7-5), 3-13... Next game: At home vs. Ufa Panthers (3-9)... Last week: #5 (-3)

9. The Geriatric Couch Potatoes (8-4), 19.482
GCP moves back into the top ten with a very average 26-3 win over Bratislava. With the Lowell game thrown out of SoS4, GCP leapforgs Kiev in the sPR despite losing to tenth-ranked Kiev a week earlier. GCP should win their next three games, but will face a tough challenge at Austin in Week 16. Last game: Win vs. Bratislava Redskins (4-8), 26-3... Next game: Away at R U N? Blackshirts (2-10)... Last week: #11 (+2)

10. Kiev Cosmonauts (8-4), 16.465
Kiev has won five out of their last six games and is making a push for one of Alpha's last four playoff spots. The stifling Cosmonaut defense held the ATL rushing attack under 20 yards, leaving ATL to depend on a subpar passing game. Kiev should finish strong with only cake games remaining on their schedule. Last game: Win vs. ATL Riders (6-6), 41-7... Next game: Away at Bratislava Redskins (4-8)... Last week: #12 (+2)

CONTENDING FOR A TOP SPOT

11. Austin Pirates (8-4), 15.389
Austin slips out of the top ten this week, but their four game winning streak continues after a 33-17 win over Nashville. The Pirates have a chance at upsetting the Zeta playoff structure if they can somehow crack the Lafayette defense next week and find a way to score. Last game: Win at Nashville Nobles (1-11), 33-17... Next game: At home vs. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (11-1)... Last week: #10 (-1)

12. Demoniak Piggies (8-4), 10.336
A nice win for Demoniak, a ho-hum 38-9 victory over the Elancourt Templiers. Hopefully the Piggies have their offense and defense clicking, as they finish off the season with a tough final four games, three on the road against Windy City, Austin, and Dnipropetrovsk, and a home game against Stalingrad. Last game: Win vs. Elancourt Templiers (3-9), 38-9... Next game: Away at Windy City Bears (9-3)... Last week: #14 (+2)

13. Dnipropetrovsk Express (7-5), 10.076
DXP loses their third straight game, falling to Barger Hill by a score of 31-17. The Express is now on the bubble, and they face an underrated team in the Combat Warriors, who took out Detroit in a game most considered to be easy pickings for the Cheetahs. DXP needs this win to keep their morale up for a shot at the postseason. Last game: Loss at Barger Hill (11-1), 17-31... Next game: At home vs. Combat Warriors (7-5)... Last week: #9 (-4)

14. Budapest Tigers (7-5), 8.817
Budapest came back in the fourth quarter to beat Samara, overshadowing a four-FG game from Samara kicker Craig Coffin. Like I said last week, Budapest has only lost to four top-ten caliber teams and once to Nizhny, who is also a playoff contender. Look for a dominant performance from the Tigers this week as they continue their steady climb up the rankings. Last game: Win at Samara Salukis (6-6), 13-12... Next game: At home vs. Nashville Nobles (1-11)... Last week: #16 (+2)

15. Samara Salukis (6-6), 6.55
It's difficult to understand why the Salukis are still ranked this high with surprise teams with the likes of Combat and San Jose hot on their heels. Perhaps I am expecting too much of the Salukis, who made it to the playoffs last season. They're going to have to pull it together in the next two weeks if they hope to make the playoffs. Last game: Loss to Budapest Tigers (7-5), 12-13... Next game: Away at Palermo Pounders (2-10)... Last week: #13 (-2)

16. Combat Warriors (7-5), 6.199
Fresh off the upset win over Detroit last week, Combat has four more shots as an underdog to finish off the regular season. It won't be an easy path to the playoffs as the Warriors face Dnipropetrovsk, Prague, and Stalingrad, all on the road. Last game: Win vs. Detroit Cheetahs (8-4), 13-3... Next game: Away at Dnipropetrovsk Express (7-5)... Last week: #18 (+2)

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

17. San Jose Baggers (7-5), 2.573
18. Nizhny Novgorod Vetz (6-6), 1.814
19. ATL Riders (6-6), -3.083
20. Wisla Krakow (5-7), -5.93
21. Minsk Berzerkers (5-7), -16.42
22. Nebaska Huskers (5-7), -19.06

DIVINE INTERVENTION

23. Bratislava Redskins (4-8), -24.72
24. Elancourt Templiers (3-9), -30.93
25. Albuquerque Regulators (2-10), -31.67
26. Ufa Panthers (3-9), -35.8
27. Palermo Pounders (2-10), -39.07
28. R U N? Blackshirts (2-10), -42.61

FACING RELEGATION

29. Nashville Nobles (1-11), -44.75
30. Athenian Pitbulls (1-11), -45.6
31. Rostov-on-Don Ducks (0-12), -47.88
32. Lowell Bengal Tigers (0-12), -66.01

There you have it, your OFFICIAL EEAAA2 Week 12 Power Rankings brought to you this week by sawedust and Verizon Wireless, which you can thank for the delay in power rankings this week. Better late than never.

Eighth isn't bad considering. Our last tough game is ADD who is 6th.

6. Amsterdam Dirty Dozen (9-3)

Figure when we win that, they may be a top five team so we may jump back up there as the season ends. Fitting for our season so far.

Thanks again sawe, masterful work even if I want to kill you for it
