Radja's Wednesday Night Conversation
It’s Radja back with our Wednesday Night Conversation. Today I am at the headquarters of the Tanzania Lumberjacks to talk with the owner and head coach, Volmania. The Jacks are on the eve of their first ever AA League Championship appearance. They finished first in the overall conference standings and are the very slight favorite tomorrow.
Here is a transcript of our conversation:
Radja - Thanks for taking the time to sit down. You must be pretty excited about this game.
Vol - Yes, we have always been the bridesmaid and never the bride. (Smiling.)
Radja - Yeah....umm.. Well... happy honeymoon?!? The last few years you were in the same league as the Tanzania Mountaineers. A lot of either couldn’t tell the difference or didn’t know you guys were even in the league. Was it frustrating feeling like the Mountaineers JV team?
Vol - I am not going to lie, it was frustrating and even a bit confusing for some of our own players. Several would pm me wondering why there name wasn’t in the box score.
Radja - You’ve got to be kidding me.
Vol - I wish I was. The sad thing is one of them was our offensive coordinator, Smallbugger. It could be why were in AA for so many seasons.
Radja - Well, now you are at the top of the heap so congratulations.
Vol - Thank you.
Radja - But I can’t help but what’s going to happen next year when you are back with the Mountaineers in AAA. Won’t Smally get confused all over again?
Vol - Oh no!! We took care of that already. We don’t let him game plan anymore. We just set up a dummy computer over in the corner with fake game plan pages. We even post in the AAA Forum Good Game thread after every game.
Radja - Aaaand he hasn’t caught on yet?
Vol - No, no, He’s pretty clueless. And we have a system down now. We really get on him when the Mountaineers lose. We call him names, blame him for costing playoff seeding and stuff like that. We can be pretty brutal. Actually after they lost in first round of AAA we told him we better not even lose a scrimmage game or he’s gone. He has been at the computer pretty much since Sunday night.
Radja - Wow...um I don’t know what to say.
Vol - Hey we’re not totally heartless. We bought him every cup of coffee he needed...... He is looking pretty jittery over there though. Someone should check his blood pressure. (For the record no one seemed to get up.)
Radja - (we look over at the corner) uhh, man...he cusses a lot. Does he always second guess himself like that?
Vol - Oh yeah. Especially after the Mountaineers lose. His wife says he does that even when he is ‘amorous’.
Radja - Oh gawd. That puts 5 or 7 questions in my head I don’t want the answer to. Let’s get back on track. So you have the African Fever tomorrow. What do think is going to happen?
Vol - Oh yeah we are going to kill them. I think we win 60-0.
Radja - That’s pretty bold. I really don’t think you can shut them out. Aren’t you worried about bulletin board material?
Vol - Why? We don’t fear the Fever. We are the *@#$!%^%$ Tanzania Mountaineers!!!! I mean Jackers!!! I mean Fricken Lumberjacks! 60-0! PUT THAT IN STONE!!!!!
Radja - All right. I will print that but that’s pretty bold. Thanks for the time and here is some bucks for the next round of coffee for Smallbugger.
Bold statements by Volmania but if I learned one thing this year in Lion Conference is nothing is set in stone. The game is too close to call and I think it will be down to the wire. If I had to make a prediction, the game is going to overtime.
