Wow, the first week demonstrated just how deep the East is and how good everyone has been this season. Great work to everyone. It will be a shame to lose a couple of you guys next season, but AA better watch out.
In both of this week's games, the underdog won the regular season matchup, which is very interesting.
#1 Miami Hammerheads v #5 Red River Chiefs
Miami survived a scare from a very game #8 seed and Red River came up with a novel game plan to take out Montana in the minor upset--no credit should be taken from them for coming up with a good plan. Miami will have seen that plan, so can RR come up with something else? There is not a big talent gap here, but I like Miami's rushing D a bit better than RR. I think both teams will come up with way to score, however. RR gave Miami their only loss 40-38 in a real barnburner early in the season. To me the Hammerheads seem destined to win it all despite their first game scare, but it wouldn't shock me if our friends at RR come up with something. Miami 35, Red River 31.
#3 Miami Makos v #7 Atlanta Wolves
Looks like the City of Miami will be hoping tomorrow, hosting 2 playoff games. Give a lot of credit to Atlanta for making playoff adjustments and saving some of their tactical planning for the big game. The Makos pulled away from the Hawks early with an opportunistic pass D and survived a late charge. The Makos achilles heel this season has been the aforementioned pass D, but can Atlanta take advantage? Atlanta pulled off a 20-17 upset first time around and have the horses to do it again, but I like Miami to loosen up the run with the pass. Miami 21, Atlanta 13.
