Here are the current rankings and it's exciting to see some of the top-tier matchups this upcoming game.

WEST
1) Mentone Beach Assault looked mortal for the first time this season in last outing against Virginia
2a) Corpus Christi Illegal Aliens had best outing of the season last game
2b) Bakersfield Nanananas hard to say whether CCIA or Bakersfield is the real "2a"
4) Mighty Chihuahuas Team is achieving about all it can with the personnel on hand
5) Long Beach Dub All-Stars very nice showing last game
6) Virginia George Washingtons played Mentone Beach much tougher than anyone else has
7) Saginaw Supernovas drubbed by Long Beach last outing
8a) Dallas Hitmen beat Beantown last game - beaten and crushed the two weeks before - will the REAL Dallas Hitmen team please stand up?
8b) Beantown Bastards loss to Dallas by 10 last game was their worst outing of the season - perhaps just a one-week curse?
10) Big Bear Avalanche beat a cupcake last game
11a) Steel City Sentinels team may be dazed after several games in a row of being blown out by top teams
11b) Idaho Rex much better than the 4 teams below them
13) Los Angeles Cobras CPU
14) Eugene SLUGs
15) Pittsburgh Stillers
16) Washington Bow Chicka Brown Cows

EAST
1) Boston Bears playing well and very consistently
2) Tennessee Fury undefeated, but less consistently dominating in recent games than Boston
3) Phoenix Scorpions beat another lower-tier team last game
4) Dirty Cheetahs 7 point win over New Jersey Mobsters last game was a solid win but not the kind of outing that moves a team up the rankings
5a) Saint Paul Vulcans lost by 2 to Sleepy Hollow last game but beat Louisiana by 10 earlier in the season, hanging onto this ranking by a thread
5b) Louisiana State Tighas thumped as expected by Boston last game
7) Sleepy Hollow Horsemen beat Saint Paul by 2 last week, but earlier 3 point loss to Enghave still haunts them; very tight on the heels of both the 5a and 5b teams in the rankings and could pass them both with another good showing
8a) New Jersey Mobsters played Dirty tough last week, losing by 7
8b) Enghave Evolution Kept the score much closer than expected in last game's loss to Tennessee, despite losing by 26
10) Texas Wrecking Crew beat up a lower-tier team last game
11) Houston Toxins also beat up a lower-tier team last game
12) NJ Hitmen making progress
13) Los Angeles Bicycle Clowns
14) Philadelphia Birds
15) Atlantic City Aces
16) Iowa Hogeyes CPU

It doesn't really matter what the rankings say (since the Bears and Fury face off tomorrow), but I find it hilarious that you'd move an undefeated team below a one loss team, especially when you claim to put so much into performance against common opponents.

Boston beat the Tighas by 32, Fury won by 36
Boston beat the Cheetahs by 32, Fury won by 48
Boston beat the Wrecking Crew by 47, Fury won by 42

I can agree (somewhat) with 1a and 1b type ranking between the two teams, just don't understand swapping the ranking based on a 26 point win against a good opponent.

Oh, and in no way does this statement mean I'm guaranteeing a win against the Bears. I think it will be a very tough game that will likely be decided by one or two key plays that could go either way.

I would agree that the Fury deserve the #1 ranking at least until they are unseated. However, since this is one person's power ranking and not a panel vote I guess it's ok to order the teams based on how well they are playing lately and not their entire body of work.

Maybe it would be better if one of you guys (sly or mystikalilusion) did the power rankings and the other managed an actual poll of voters. Then, we could even blend the 2 polls and come up with a BCS-type of formula...That way we can have both and everyone's happy. Just my 2 cents.

Oh, he's entitled to his opinion. In this case, however, its wrong.

Maybe Sly has just decided that tomorrow's game is already decided and that both teams are already 1 loss teams?

As for the idea of a ranking more based on votes, the game moves to quickly for that. One could be organized every 4 weeks (vote in the preseason and after week 4, 8, and 12 with results available 2 weeks later (weeks 2, 6, 10, and 13). Actually not a bad idea.

I think that would be great for a preseason poll - but I agree with Air that the games move much too fast for that.

Regarding the Boston vs Tennessee ranking, it's a tough call but I based it not so much how well have the teams done lately, meaning last game, as it is how well have the teams done after game 1?

Obviously game 1 Boston had a poor showing in their loss to Virginia. Tennessee's showing was better, but still ho-hum, topping Long Beach by 6.

Game 2 both teams faced bottom-tier teams and won.

Game 3 both teams had very solid wins, Boston by 31 over the Scorpions and Tennessee by 42 over the Wrecking Crew. I consider the quality of these wins about equal, given the respective opponents.

Game 4 both teams again faced bottom tier teams, and won.

Game 5 Tennessee had their best win of the season, a 48 point topping of Dirty, but Boston's also had their best win of the season, and their 48 point topping of Saint Paul was only a shade less impressive.

Game 6 Boston starts to outperform Tennessee. Boston has a 47 point win over the Wrecking Crew while meanwhile Tennessee has a more ho-hum 31 point win over the lower-ranked Houston Toxins.

Game 7 they both have solid outings and Tennessee even a bit better, but only a bit. Boston beats Dirty by 32, while Tennessee beats Louisiana by 36.

yes if you compare Tennessee in week 5 to Boston in week 7 then Tennessee did much better against a common opponent. But both teams had great week 5 performances and both teams had equivalently lesser week 7 performances.

Game 8 finally gives Boston the nudge in my rankings. Boston gives another good performance, beating Louisiana by 32, while Tennessee has another ho-hum game, topping lowly Enghave by 26.

So while you are correct that against common opponents, Tennessee has had better performances to date, this ranking was based on Boston doing from good to outstanding every game since game 2, and Tennessee not doing significantly better in any of those weeks, but playing noticeably less impressively in a couple of recent weeks (6 & 8).

End of the day it was a very tough call but as you can probably guess I'm picking Boston to win by a field goal when I do game predictions tomorrow so it makes sense I should rank then above Tennessee if I'm picking them to win. Obviously I have no love for Boston based on past history so will still be rooting for your guys despite the pick.

I can respect that analysis. Still don't agree (to me, an undefeated team ranks over a 1 loss team unless there's a clear difference in opponent).

The real question becomes, how much did today's sim changes affect the game.

I'll get the point spreads out tomorrow since for some silly reason they don't show the matchups till then and it's much easier to copy and paste rather than type.

I agree that it moves too fast for this as well. I really like the idea of the "quarterly" vote.

I'm just excited about being underdogs for the first time in 2 seasons!*** WOHOO! Of course, if we lose, we might be seeing more of that.

*** = Based on traditional Fury disclaimer meaning all claims and stats herein concern the regular season, regular season games, and nothing but the regular season. Claims issued by Fury spokespersons contain no reference to the heretofore unmentioned playoff time, also known as sudden death, alias "END of the Fury season".
