Wow, what a great week in game 3. Let's take a quick review before the new predictions.
DECATUR vs Devonport
Predicted DECATUR 34-23 and they won 33-13. It was the two pick 6s by DECATUR's Peanut_ Tillman and Cedric Briggs that weren't predicted! Especially the one on the first play of the game.
Fiji vs Lexington
Predicted a victory for Fiji 55-13, but they came out with a vengence and a 101-10 victory. Powerful offense lead by the unstoppable (at least in this game) Rich Head with 8 TDs and 420 yards!
Komodo vs Honolulu
Predicted Honolulu by a score of 24-20 and it was a little more lopsided than that with the Skulls winning 37-10. A pick 6 on the second play by Dont TestMe set the tone as Honolulu shutdown Komodo's passing and rushing, holding the Dragons to only 129 total yards of offense.
Samoa vs Ayers Rock
Predicted Samoa by 13, 30-17, actual was 37-24. Samoa's offense rolled up 508 yards as the defense was able to keep Ayers off of the field with 8 sacks to manage an 80 to 60 play advantage.
Dunedin vs Dayton
Predicted Dunedin 33-20, and Dayton told me I was wrong as they took the game 37-24. Points were traded back and forth throughout this game, but Dayton's D was forcing FGs to give them the edge in the final score as Dayton's passing attack was able to light up the skys.
Port Moresby vs AAC
Predicted AAC by 3, 27-24 but Port Moresby said we need a little respect over here as they won convincingly, 34-20. PMS's defense was strong in slowing down the AAC attack and the Scallywag's offense was very effective behind QB Chuck DaDuck's leadership and 29/41 for 253 yards and 3 TD performance. AAC made an effort in the 4th with 14 unanswered points, but it was way too much to overcome.
Rochester vs Christmas
This was a hard one for me to predict, but I chose Rochester 30-24. The Islanders lit it up and won 47-9. Christmas returned 1 fumble for a TD, but really they just dominated the Iroquois all day behind HB Marshall Smith's 26 rushes for 163 yards and 3 TDs.
Alaska vs Suka
Predicted Alaska 73-10, but they went a little WILD and scored at shutout, 103-0. It was a HUGE day for Lance Ball with 27 rushes for 327 yards and 5 TDs. Obviously, Suva won't be in AA next season.
================================
Predictions for Week 4:
There are only 3 unbeaten teams left after only 3 weeks! That says to me it is going to be an interesting season (and a tough one to predict each week!). Two of the unbeatens face each other this week, so one will fall for sure. Let’s see what the week has for us…
Fiji Rage (3-0) vs Samoa Savages (3-0)
We have the Fiji Rage trying to savagely destroy Samoa and the Samoa Savages trying to let out a little rage on Fiji. This will be a fun one as owners mgoblue and steelrain face off. Fiji has yet to be tested, while Samoa has come through in some tough games. In this early season battle either Samoa will solidify the early predictions of them being a top team or Fiji will make a major statement that they are a real player in this playoff race. If Fiji can sustain drives, they may have a chance in this game, but Samoa will try to repeat what they did against Ayers and maintain possession and grind out the game. This early, without any common opponents, it is hard to make a prediction, and Fiji may surprise me, but I am going with Samoa by 10, 34-24.
DECATUR STALEYS (3-0) vs Komodo Dragons (2-1)
DECATUR is coming off of their convincing win over Devonport and wants to continue their roll as one of only a couple unbeaten teams. Komodo, on the other hand, wants to bounce back after their resounding loss at the hands of Honolulu. Komodo faced a strong D in the Skulls and struggled to manage much offense. They will have an equally difficult task this week against the STALEYS’ powerful defense. Even though the Dragons are a good team, unless they can come up with a new game plan, I don’t see them staying in this match. DECATUR by 28, 45-17.
Honolulu Skulls (2-1) vs Suva Sparkless (0-3)
I can absolutely predict that Honolulu will be 3-1 and Suva will be 0-4 after this game. The score on the other hand is difficult. How many points can be scored in 60 minutes? Who knows, but we might be on our way to find out. Honolulu hangs ten in the surf and scores 200 on the turf. The Skulls by a score of 202-0.
Dunedin Drones (2-1) vs Christmas Islanders (1-2)
Last seasons A8 Zeta champions vs A7 Zeta champions. I don’t know much about either team yet, but both are considered contenders for this season. Dunedin had shown what I thought was a solid performance in beating Rochester, but then came back and lost to Dayton when I thought they would win by 13. Now, I don’t really know Dayton yet either, so that may not say much. But then Christmas went and beat Rochester also, but not by 1 point like Dunedin did, but by 38 points. I had Christmas as a top team in the early predictions and Dunedin as a playoff team, so I’ll have to stick with the Islanders being the slightly better team at this point in time. Christmas by 7, 34-27.
Ayers Rock Krakens (2-1) vs Port Moresby Scallywags (2-1)
Both teams are 2-1, so let’s see who is the better team. Scouting reports say that both offenses are fairly close, but that Port Moresby has the better defense. Last game, Ayers Rock was kept off of the field by Samoa. The Scallywags may not be quite as strong on defense as the Savages, but they should be pretty close. I think that as long as Port Moresby doesn’t commit more than one turnover in this game, that they will prove themselves to be the better team. But if they get a little sloppy, then the Krakens are a good enough team to snatch the victory from them. Port Moresby by 9, 33-24.
Alaska Wild (1-2) vs Lexington Armada (0-3)
Alaska is coming off of a huge stomping of Suva and want to continue their winning streak. The Armada was just sunk by Fiji last week and quickly have to right their ship or the season will be lost. I don’t think the Wild are quite as strong as the Rage, but they are definitely more than enough to conquer Lexington. I see another big day for Lance Ball and company as they roll over the Armada. Alaska by 47, 60-13.
Dayton Gunslingers (1-2) vs An Album Cover (0-3)
Dayton played a great game last week versus Dunedin and showed me at least that they are a good team and deserve to be in AA. An Album Cover has struggled to start the season, going 0-3, but they were against playoff caliber teams. I would say that both teams are dark horses to make it to the playoffs, but I wouldn’t rule them out either. I wouldn’t be surprised if both of them are fighting for that final spot at the end of the season. That means this game may be critical to who gets in. AAC has always bothered me by playing really well against tough teams and keeping it too close against easier teams. It is early in the season, so it’s easier for me to pick the team I am more familiar with. AAC by 10, 30-20.
Devonport Devils (1-2) vs Rochester Iroquois (0-3)
Wow, this is two teams that didn’t expect after three games to only have 1 win and 5 losses between them! Both are quality teams and should be around when the playoffs come, but it has been a rough start. The Devils got pretty solidly handled by the STALEYS, while the Iroquois got spanked by the Islanders last week. Both teams need to turn it around quickly, but only one will be able to do that this week. Rochester beat the Devils by 3 last season. Can they do it again? Rochester has the slightly better rush defense and Devonport has the slightly better pass offense. It should be a good battle to watch. I think in the end, that Devonport will avenge last years loss, and pull it out this season by 7, 31-24.
