Well here we are again!! A new season and a new start for everybody, all of the teams are full of hope for the year and everyone is excited to play once more.
Fourteen teams voted for this poll! THANK YOU That is a great start to the season. There were some surprises and of course the votes were all over the place as to be expected. 21 teams received votes this week, and only 3 teams were represented on every poll submitted. Those teams are no surprise...TLGoT, LOL, and DD. We also started off the season with our first tie of the year...both The Dream and the Pirates got 48 points each which put them both in 8th place. It just so happened that they got to break that tie on the field today...more on that later.
First off to no surprise, our defending Champs The Gunfighters gained the most first place votes. They started off the year against last season's Lion Conference runner up, The Kings, in what many believed would be the game of the week. It lived up to the hype for the 1st Q...then the wheels fell off of The Kings wagon. TLGoT started off the season as only a great defending champ would, by absolutely crushing The Kings 50 -6. Wow. A win like that has to serve notice to the entire APL that The Gunfighters are not content with 1 title. They are out for blood from the start. It also has to tell The Kings that they are nowhere near as good as they thought they were.
In the other presumed Game of the Week, the Dream and The Pirates faced off with each other to see who truly deserved to be listed in the Top 10 and who was the pretender. The Pirates blinked first and The Dream came away with a very convincing win, 21 - 3.
In the true Game of the Week, perennial front runners LOL matched up against the always solid Dar es Salaam. This game was 1:18 away from ending in a tie before the Legos put it away with a touchdown in OT. Both of these teams will make some noise this year come playoff time.
Another team that will most certainly make some noise is one that made it's APL debut this week. The Seychelles Island Sea Wolves. If you don't know this name, you will. They came to this league with a very substantial reputation. I know they probably would have liked to fly under the radar a bit, but their debut at 7 on the Coaches Poll shows that the Pro teams are very aware of their talent and already feel that they deserve respect.
OK sorry this one was late, it should have been out yesterday but I was bushed. I'll post the new poll tomorrow night I promise. Polls are now open.
Thanks to everyone who voted, and congrats to all of the teams who made the list!!!
