Maybe this is a not so unique way to build OT's now, if so I apologize. The first player I ever made was an Offensive Tackle. I managed to salavage his build, but all he ever will be now is a back-up, unless I wanted to go above a suggested level. So, I had wanted to make another one for a while, trying to correct some of the mistakes I made, while still providing value for a team that signed him after a D-league career.
I made him on Day 42 of last season. Even making him two days after I should have for maximum experience, I still have been able to enjoy a great, long offseason for training purposes. I am running out of cash for training purposes so it is questionable if I could have used two days more of training...eh, who am I kidding I could have and am just making excuses.
For some reason my computer won't open firefox on this computer. It instantly recognizes a timed out session. This means I have enough patience to minimize valueless attributes, but I can't go for full value and max the first ability I am going to work on.
My opening roll was:
Physical Attributes
Strength: 15
Speed: 8
Agility: 15
Jumping: 8
Stamina: 10
Vision: 14
Confidence: 14
Football Skills
Blocking: 15
Catching: 8
Tackling: 10
Throwing: 8
Carrying: 8
Kicking: 8
Punting: 8
While it would be nicer if one of the main attributes was higher for capping purposes, a roll of 8s in all the non levelling skills has to be taken when you still have to click for each reroll.
Here is where I got different. I started training agility as a single attribute until I raised it to 17. I then boosted to level 4 (still in season 7), which took agility to 18.2 and soft-capped agility. In hindsight I should have held off boosting until the last day to boost was announced because it would have maximized gains in training other skills, or I could have kept training agility and held SP for the next position to soft cap.
I chose to soft cap agility first for a number of reasons. Agility is still growing more and more important, even with the increased push to strength. DE's are still taking the thought that, "I have no hope to match an O-lineman in strength, I need to beat him in agility and speed so bad that strength doesn't become a factor." I also think that a very high agility number will help to mask a low speed, which doesn't level and needs to have training focused on it to make any gains. While there is a SPD/AGI combo in intense training, I don't want to have to focus on speed when I focus on agility. Speed comes later down the line. If I use the BLK/AGI combo, then I have to focus on strength first and I think it is becoming apparent that strength is just not that important. I don't want to make the mistake I made the first time of having strength be my highest attribute.
I originally planned on going the BLK/STR combo method after taking agility to the first softcap, but I don't see it happening. I want to get blocking to the softcap as soon as possible now and that is going to happen through single training. I brought the attributes up once through three combo trainings and then blocking up once after switching to single attribute training. Here are my current attributes:
Physical Attributes
Strength: 17.2
Speed: 8
Agility: 48.2
Jumping: 8
Stamina: 11.5
Vision: 15.2
Confidence: 15.2
Football Skills
Blocking: 24.2
Catching: 8
Tackling: 11.5
Throwing: 8
Carrying: 8
Kicking: 8
Punting: 8
I have my custom equipment in blocking, current financial situation doesn't let me buy anything else. I am struggling over my next move; AGI to 61 or BLK to 48.
AGI to 61 will require slightly more than 24 skill points, but with the leveling boosts, it is fair to say that I can reach 61 in five more levels, by level 9. As for reaching 48.07 in blocking, it is less precise (mainly because I wont do all the math) but I think level 9 is a fair guesstimate on when I could soft cap blocking. If I wait to soft cap blocking, I will have more time to train (not sure if I will have reached the point of diminishing returns, but should get blocking to the point where I can cap after 4 levels, or level 13.
Where do you see mistakes in what I am doing? Is working agility first a FAIL idea in the first place? tl;dr?
I will probably leave the build closed when I join a team, but still give updates on this work when I can. Here is the build right now: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1268232
