Well, here we go starting another season in Oceania AA #4 Zeta! Congratulations to all those great teams that moved up, Sydney Sea Wasps, Apia Evil, Perth Pirates, and Waikiki Wrecks. Do us proud up there in the Big Boy AAA land! We have a reputation to uphold, as most teams from the AA #4 Zeta in the past that were promoted have been very competitive.
So let’s look at who we have in our conference this season. First, let’s welcome all the new teams…
Promoted from A #7 Zeta –
- The Conference Champions Christmas Islanders, 16-0 in the regular season and #1, lost in the league championship.
- The conference runners up Ayers Rock Krakens, 11-5 in the regular season and #7, made a big run in the playoffs, but lost in the conference championship to the Christmas Islanders.
Promoted from A #8 Zeta –
- The Conference Champions Dunedin Drones, 15-1 in the regular season and #2, lost in the league championship.
- The conference runners up Dayton Gunslingers, 16-0 in the regular season and #1, lost in the conference championship in a very close game to the Dunedin Drones.
- Welcome back to Lexington Armada, 14-2 in the regular season and #3, lost in the second round of playoffs to Dunedin Drones.
Sounds like a couple of teams are going to have some grudges to settle against Dunedin!
Demoted from AAA #1 Zeta –
- Honolulu Skulls, 6-10 in the regular season, are ready to work their way back up to AAA.
- Suva Sparks, 0-16 in the regular season, are on the escalator ride down to A to start over.
Now for the returning teams…
- Devonport Devils, 12-4 in the regular season and #5, lost in the first round of the playoffs to Waikiki.
- Rochester Iroquois, 11-5 in the regular season and #6, lost in the first round of the playoffs to Perth.
- DECATUR STALEYS, 10-6 in the regular season (how did that happen after their bad start?) and #7, lost in the first round of the playoffs to Apia.
- Samoa Savages, 8-8 in the regular season and #8, lost in the first round to Sydney.
- Komodo, 7-9 in the regular season and #9, just missed the playoffs but expect to make it this season.
- Fiji, 7-9 in the regular season and #10, also just missed the playoffs but don’t want to do that again.
- An Album Cover, 6-10 in the regular season and #11, looked good early but had a really tough last 6 games to just come up short.
- Port Moresby Scallywags, 6-10 in the regular season and #12, eagerly anticipate a playoff berth this season.
- Alaska Wild, 2-14 in the regular season and #14, made some progress in their roster last season and look to continue that trend in season 8.
So there are the cast of characters for our drama called Season 8 in Oceania AA #4 Zeta. Zeta has notoriously been an extremely tough conference. What will it be like this season? Will the dominant teams that promoted from the A leagues, continue their winning ways and dominate in AA? Or do the demoted teams from AAA have what it takes to win the conference and move back up? Or are the old AA teams ready to show all the newcomers what it means to play in AA4 Zeta? One thing that is almost guaranteed is that whoever comes out on top as the champion will have fought through a lot of hard teams to get there.
Tomorrow I'll try to come up with a very premature prediction for the season.
