Despite the efforts of some great teams to break the status quo, number 1 and number 2 will face off in each of the conference championships. In nearly every case, the team that stopped the opposing ground game won the day.

Alpha Conference Championship - Warsaw vs Vilnius

Warsaw vs Stalingrad: Though this was the closest of the four games, the Gods of War kept the Ironmen behind throughout the game, forcing them to try to find a way to get the comeback win. Warsaw benefited from big plays early to put them up by two scores in the first, and their defense did a great job of keeping the Ironmen down long enough to keep the scoreboard in their favor. Coming from behind is never good for your running game, and Stalingrad was only able to put up 38 yards total rushing while trying to pass their way to a victory. Unfortunately, when defenses know a team will have to pass, it becomes that much more difficult to get it done. Despite the closeness of the score, Warsaw was in control the entire time.

Vilnius vs Vorkuta: The Yellowhammers never got it going as the Raptors' defense swarmed them all day. Vilnius played the field position game early, until a weak punt from the Yellowhammers' 11 yard line set them up deep in Vorkuta territory for the first touchdown of the game. After another quick score on their next possession, Vilnius took control and kept it. Two ill-timed picks in the second half led to ten points for the Velociraptors, and pretty much put the game away. Vorkuta couldn't get it done against a tough Vilnius defense.

Zeta Conference Championship - Bratislava vs Secretville

Bratislava vs Warsaw: I'm not gonna lie, we were a little worried about the Wolfpack. Warsaw has come a long way from the beginning of the season, and will be serious contenders in this league next season. The game turned out a lot like I thought it would, with the Butchers counting on their fantastic defense to keep the score low, and pounding the ball repeatedly with their twin backs Elminhelm Randoake and rob roberts runnerover. Wolfpack HB Lendale White Jr had a great day running the ball against a stingy Bratislava defense, but the Butchers held when they needed to and forced field goals instead of touchdowns.

Secretville vs South City: In another example of getting an opponent down early and keeping them there, the Offtopics had a dominant performance against the Chiefs. South City never had a chance to run the ball, coming from behind from the very first possession of the game. South City's defense had nothing to stop Secretville, who scored on nearly every possession. Secretville was ready for the Chiefs' QB Hans Schweinsteiger, intercepting him four times and sacking him three times. Schweinsteiger was able to get a lot of yards in this game, but a 1-4 touchdown to interception ratio won't lead to a victory, particularly when three of the picks were in the fourth quarter.

This week crowns the Conference champs, in preparation for the EEA4 Super Bowl, the League Championship game, where one of these four teams will fight their way to the top and that pretty gold trophy.

Good stuff. Wish you could write another one on the Wolfpack but we'll just have to wait until next season. Best of luck to the remaining teams!
