This is the last week of the regular season. It has been a great season. Let’s see how each team is going to finish up. This may be the last write-up for the season, at least as the Devils are still in the hunt!
#1 Sydney Sea Wasps (15-0) vs #8 Samoa Savages (8-7)
Sydney has a chance to complete the perfect regular season with a win in this game. Samoa will end up with the 8th seed and make the playoffs with a win or a loss in this game. So this makes for an interesting situation… They play each other today with nothing on the line (except Sydney’s perfect regular season). Regardless of what happens, they will face each other next week in the first round of the playoffs. So what will their strategies be in this game? I would think that the Savages have to try something to put a dent in Sydney. If it doesn’t work, then you try something else in the playoffs. If it does work, then Sydney gets a chance to adjust, but at least you will make them think and then you have options. In the end, I don’t think Samoa finds a weakness in this game. Sydney by a comfortable 21, 35-14.
#2 Apia Evil (13-2) vs #12 Port Moresby Scallywags (6-9)
Apia is coming off of their huge victory over Perth last week and looking go into the playoffs as #2. Port Moresby can’t make the playoffs, but after their big defeat last week, they would love to end the season on a big upset to build on for next season. The Evil have just destroyed opponents these last 5 games, so I don’t look for Port Moresby to pull out a surprise upset. The Evil roll into the playoffs ready to make their run at the championship. Apia by 39, 52-13.
#3 Perth Pirates (13-2) vs #10 An Album Cover (6-9)
Perth will use this game to ramp up for the playoffs after their defeat by the Evil. An Album Cover has slipped out of the playoff contention and had the toughest schedule these last 6 games of the season. Just like the Scallywags, they would love to play well in this last one to go out on a win to prepare for next season. I don’t see that happening though as the Pirates want to get ready for another shot at Apia. Perth by 42, 52-10.
#4 Waikiki Wrecks (12-3) vs #16 Redcliffe Sharks (0-16)
I don’t know why I even waste the time to comment on this one. I don’t think I will. Waikiki by 135, 135-0.
#5 Devonport Devils (11-4) vs #14 Alaska Wild (2-13)
Devonport needs a win to hold on to the #5 seed. That shouldn’t be a problem. Alaska has floundered all year and will get beat up in this one as the Devils coast into the playoffs. Devonport by 42, 55-13.
#6 Rochester Iroquois (10-5) vs #9 Fiji Rage (7-8)
Rochester needs a win to keep their 6th seed. Fiji would love a win, but they will still fall just short of the playoffs because even if they tie Samoa, the Savages have the tie breaker advantage on them. Rochester will take care of business and win by 15, 35-20.
#7 DECATUR STALEYS (9-7) vs #13 Intergalactic Sub-Mariners (3-12)
DECATUR is finally rolling and will continue straight into the playoffs. Intergalactic played a nice game last week to get the 13th rank. They will probably get pretty well hammered this week, so I hope they enjoy the win from last week. DECATUR has come on very strong and should go into the playoffs as the #7 seed and are looking forward to the challenge of facing super hot Apia in the first round. As for this one, DECATUR takes care of business by 47, 60-13.
#11 Komodo Dragons (6-9) vs #15 Tasmania Dragons
This is the Battle of the Dragons. In the long awaited contest to see who has Dragon bragging rights, it will pit Komodo vs Tasmania. As for me, I know a Komodo Dragon is pretty awesome. A Tasmania Dragon? I’ve never heard of that one. So I think Komodo will earn the right to heretofore be crowned the king Dragon, and Tasmania will be the little dragon. So Komodo King Dragons will defeat the Tasmania little dragons by 69, 75-6.
It’s been a great season. I can’t wait for the playoffs to see what happens as we have 8 really good teams. Good luck to all!
