After a brutal week 13, it looks like the Zeta Conference number one seed may finally be locked up. With only the Wolfpack remaining as a possible threat to the Butchers' dominance, Bratislava looks to maintain home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The big game between Secretville and Bratislava started out as everyone expected, with both defenses holding the opposing offense to a field goal in the first quarter. The Butchers soon took over in the second, driving down the field for the first touchdown of the game. After a Secretville three-and-out, Bratislava once again marched downfield, but the Offtopics defense held when it counted and kept the Butchers from scoring more than a field goal. After forcing another three-and-out, Bratislava's offense was quieted by Secretville, but a great punt pinned the Offtopics offense at the 6.5 yard line. Bratislava brought the noise, first sacking QB Armchair McCreedy at the 1.5 yard line, then tackling him in the endzone for a safety. This marks the first time the Butchers ever scored a safety. Secretville's Frederick Voltaire was plenty pissed off, and showed it in the ensuing Bratislava possession, meeting the ball carrier behind the line twice and finishing the job with a QB sack. Secretville got the ball back and drove down the field, only to be stopped in the red zone and held to another field goal, taking the score to 14-6 to end the half. Bratislava came out firing in the third, getting the ball first and immediately scoring on a 55 yard run from rob roberts runnerover. Another defensive stand got the ball back in the Butchers' hands, leading to another long drive, but stalled in the red zone once again, Bratislava settled for 3. Secretville needed something big to get back in the game, and were able to get the ball rolling a bit, scoring a touchdown on the next drive. With the ball in their hands to start the fourth quarter, Bratislava answered back with another touchdown drive of their own, trying to seal the deal and get the game out of Secretville's reach. With time running out, Secretville had one more opportunity to drive the field and make something happen, but the Butchers' defense came up big and held them to a field goal. From there the Butchers only needed to run the ball and eat up the last several minutes of the game. When Secretville got the ball back, it was too late, with only 15 seconds remaining and no timeouts left. The clock ran out for Secretville, and the disappointed faithful filed out of the Barbie Dome in eerie silence, heads low, but determined to make up for the loss in a playoff rematch.
The rest of the EEA4 wrapup will be forthcoming, likely sometime in the next hour. I need to take a little break before I jump into the rest of the great games we had this week.
