With 4 weeks to go, it is time to start looking at the playoff picture.
I guess the best place to start would be the current records:
1 Southriding Sting Rays 11-1-0
2 Kilkenny Cannibals 10-2-0
3 John Deere Tractors 9-3-0
4 Limerick Vikings 9-3-0
5 Grim Reapers 8-4-0
6 Cork City Wildcats 7-5-0
7 Transylvania Bloodsuckers 7-5-0
8 Bow Street Runners 6-6-0
9 Warsaw Water Buffalos 6-6-0
10 Dublin Drunken Monkeys 6-6-0
11 Amsterdam Arctic Blast CPU 4-8-0
12 Glastonbury Knights 4-8-0
13 London Underground 3-9-0
14 London Death Monkeys 2-10-0
15 The Berlin Skulls 1-11-0
16 Sweden Army 0-12-0
The Death Monkeys, Skulls and Army have been officially eliminated.
The Underground, Knights and Arctic Blast still have a mathematical chance. The Blast are CPU and are expected to lose out so let's drop them from the conversation. The Underground and Knights need a lot of help and actually face each other in the last game of the season, so I am saying that neither will be in the playoffs.
Sting Rays and Cannibals have clinched playoff spots.
Remaining schedule:
With 10 teams left in the hunt, the next four games are critical. I will touch upon a few key games that will go a long way in deciding who is in and who isn't.
Drunken Monkeys - 3 of their remaining games are against Warsaw, Transylvania, and Bow Street - yikes. Coming out of these at 2-2 would be a great deal and could make the playoffs. 1-3 knocks them out for sure.
Water Buffaloes - With John Deere, Grim and Dublin on their schedule, things don't look good for the playoffs. 1-3 is a real possibility and even 2-2 may not be enough if they lose to the Monkeys.
Runners - 2 tough games and 2 not so tough games gives the Runners the best shot of all three 6-6 teams to make it. A win over the Monkeys would seal the deal if even needed as it would the last regular game of the season for them.
Bloodsuckers - with a one game edge the tough schedule may be offset. The game with the monkeys will be key as they also have Limerick and John Deere left.
Wildcats - These guys also have the one game edge but have only one tough game left (against Southriding). Going 3-1 could even sneak them into a home playoff game with lots of help.
Reapers - A 2 game lead over the 8th place team and 2 winnable games should make these guys a lock for the playoffs. Being one game out of the home field hunt makes the other two games against Warsaw and Kilkenny very interesting.
Vikings - These guys have a 3 game lead and almost have the playoffs locked up. I am sure they are eyeing a home game but have 3 games that could trip them up (Transylvania, Bow Street and Southriding)
Tractors - Are in the same boat with the Vikings as they have Kilkenny, Warsaw and Transylvania.
I see a lot of tight games and a lot of tightly clenched butt cheeks over the next few weeks. Good luck to all (except those playing the Reapers
).
