(San Juan) - The San Juan Cabelleros broke a two game skid last week and this week with a dominating win over the Red Communists they started a two game winning streak. The Cabelleros face a rough road ahead, but they appear poised to do well all the way into the playoffs. This team has high hopes this year as they plan to make travel plans for the South American Title Game this year.
Yesterday against the Red Communists the offense was clicking and the defense was dominating.
The defensive unit held Red Communists to just over 3 yards per pass attempt and less than 2 yards per carry.
The offensive side of the ball was lead by the Cabelleros leading rusher and "the new guy" at quarterback. Rush MaGruder had 96 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. John Cash led the attack through the air racking up close to 200 yards and two touchdowns as well. Let's not forget the wide receiver corps that had Peter Dunn leading the charge with 61 yards and two scores. We caught up with Cabelleros quarterback after the game, "Well, I just did what I could today to help the team get the win. I like to locker room here and unlike most teams I've been on when someone has a bad game it is not about 'fix this or fix that' its all about 'we'll get 'em next game.' But, I tell ya, that I couldn't have done anything at all today if it weren't for one of the best fullbacks in the game in Rock and a mauling offensive line."
Right you are John Cash. That offensive line was mauling today as Matt Whitey alone racked up 13 pancakes during the game.
The San Juan Cabelleros have just expanded seating and made a small increase in ticket prices. These are good moves as there is a general 'buzz' in the area about these Cabelleros. The team is making great strides and appears to be ready to step up in the playoffs. The fans are strong in showing their support as they have been selling out every game they've played.
Coming up next: A home game against the Carolina Wildcats.
