I find it interesting that the Ridgebacks are rated 5 and 6 spots below the Bugeaters and the Warrior Kings following victories over each. Hard to have much faith in a system that gets it that wrong.

Strength of Record = (Total number of wins of opponents you have defeated) - (Total number of losses of opponents that have beaten you)

Definition

This is measure of how good a team is. It rewards beating good teams and punishes for losing to bad teams.

Quality of Play

Equation

Quality of Play = (Actual total point differential) - (Predicted total point differential)

Definition

It is essentially how many points (total) that team has beaten (or not beaten) the spread by. I feel it is a good indicator of whether a team is playing better or worse than expected.


The only questionable part of the formula is that it includes the preseason scrimmages in the calculations. The Bugeaters beat UN in the preseason while the Ridgebacks lost to ABD and that affects the results quite a bit right now. The Bugeaters have lost more games but to teams with a combined 4 losses, while the Ridgebacks have lost to teams with a combined 11 losses.

Give it a couple more weeks and the preseason will hold less weight.

SO if I am readin this right.... KNR has played teams with 5 more losses than wins which gives us the "-5" in sterength of record.... I don't think I get the quality of play one though because I haven't seen what the predicted spread would have been

KNR has beaten teams with a combined 14 wins while losing to teams with a combined 19 losses for the -5 strength of record. The preseason is included in those totals.

The 28.18888711 quality of play loses some meaning without seeing the predictions but it still indicates that your margin of victory has been larger than the spreadsheet predicted and/or your margin of defeat has been smaller. The larger this number is, the better.
