let me start this off with apologizing for not doing the rankings for week 5, I just didn't find the time to do them. so let's take a look what happened over the last 2 weeks:
Alpha Rankings for Week 6
1 (2).... Geneva Plague (5-0)
2 (3).... Valletta Vikings (5-0)
3 (1).... dax atlantique storms (5-0)
4 (4).... New Orleans Bayou Bengals (4-1)
5 (5).... Austrian Eagles (5-0)
6 (6).... South Yorkshire Aftershocks (3-2)
7 (11).. Stockholm Cows (3-2)
8 (8).... Glasgow Bravehearts (1-4)
9 (7).... Rome Legion (3-2)
10 (10).. Copenhagen VooDoo (3-2)
11 (9).... St. Petersburg Knights (2-3)
12 (12).. Berlin Blaze (1-4)
13 (13).. Capri Elites (0-5)
14 (14).. Leipzig Lava Flow (0-5)
15 (15).. Madrid Strikers (1-4)
16 (16).. Marseille Hitmen (1-4)
Madrid won the "Battle of the Bad, the Worse and the Ugly" two weeks ago, all but cementing Marseille's status as the worst team in the conference for the rest of the season. Rome is still struggling, falling to Stockholm - what has happened to that team? St. Petersburg might be out of the playoff race after only 5 games, losses to South Yorkshire and Copenhagen have really hurt their chances. the Bravehearts, who sit at 1-4 at the moment, should have their toughest part of the season behind them and need to get on a roll now to justify their #8 ranking. Geneva and Valletta haven't blinked so far and deserve to sit atop the rankings. The Plague has just been a bit more impressive in my opinion.
Alpha Games of the Week
#2 Valletta Vikings (5-0) vs. #5 Austrian Eagles (5-0)
This marks the beginning of some great football games, many top teams will face off in the next few weeks.
This game features two unbeaten teams, none has faced major competition so far but both have won their games pretty convincingly. Last year's game was a close one, a 17-10 win by the Vikings. An interception at their own 30 with less than 2 minutes to go sealed the game for Valletta.
The Eagles are not very happy that they have to travel to Malta again because Valletta's Valhalla stadium is known for its crowd noise. I expect a close and entertaining game.
My prediction: Valletta by 7
#8 Glasgow Bravehearts (1-4) vs. #9 Rome Legion (3-2)
It's still early in the season but this game has playoff implications for both teams. Glasgow has dropped 4 of their first five games against some of the better teams in the league. if they want to repeat last year's playoff berth they'd better find ways to win soon.
Rome's 3-2 record doesn't look too shabby but this team has really disappointed me so far - their 13-3 season seems like ages ago and remember, all those 3 losses came against teams that were promoted. do they really drop from conference favorites all the way to non-playoff team?
the loser of this matchup will need a very good second half of the season to get back into the picture!
My prediction: Glasgow by 3
Other Alpha Games (predicted winners are in bold)
Blaze vs. Bengals
Hitmen vs. Aftershocks
Knights vs. Plague
Lava Flow vs. Cows
Storms vs. VooDoo
Strikers vs. Elites
