I don't get it either. We played a #4, 12 and 31 and our # is one of the lowest if not lowest for quality of play.

Quality of play is a sort of "How'd you do against the spread" sort of thing...

Basically, if you're playing a team significantly worse than you, you're expected to spank them worse than Alabama playing some team from the Mountain West conf...oh...never mind...but you get my point.

So, a poor "quality of play" means you didn't beat up on the cupcakes as much as the math says you should have.

It's still very early in the season, so that number is expected to vary greatly over the next couple of weeks. Really, it'll be game 6-7 before we get any real stability, as to this point, there aren't many intraconfernce games played yet (only 2, as both scrimmages and week 1 were interconference), so there aren't many common opponents to work with yet.

If you're heavily into understanding the math (I'm not, btw, I just punch the numbers into the formula), I encourage you to do a search on the GLB wiki for Power Ranking Spreadsheet and delve into it there.

Incidentally, strength of record is basically ((wins of teams you've beaten) - (losses of teams that have beaten you)), so in other words, Massena is on top because the teams they've beaten have won most of their other games (therefore are presumably good) as opposed to a team that is 3-0 but their opponents are a combined 0-9.

That can happen early on.

Odds are most teams will shift dramatically next game, as we get 33% more information abotu how good teams are, comparatively.

Be interesting to see how these rankings look without the preseason games, but it's too early to read much into it.

no.. Scrims wont even be considered at all after the first 4 games are played. Everyone stop taking this spread to heart. Its only up so you can get an idea of whats going on it will be more accurate in the weeks to come.

No, this just includes the two scheduled Pre-season games everyone played within the league on Days -3 and -1 (IIRC, may have been -4 and -2).

They will be discarded after game 6 (at the latest). After 6 "regular" games, we'll have enough data for stuff to matter. I still need to figure out if I need to delete the data from the spreadsheet or if the programming behind it disregards them automatically...guess I'll do some digging).
