Alpha Rankings for Week 3
1 (1).... dax atlantique storms (2-0)
2 (2).... Geneva Plague (2-0)
3 (3).... Valletta Vikings (2-0)
4 (4).... New Orleans Bayou Bengals (1-1)
5 (6).... Austrian Eagles (2-0)
6 (10).. South Yorkshire Aftershocks (2-0)
7 (9).... Glasgow Bravehearts (1-1)
8 (7).... Rome Legion (1-1)
9 (8).... St. Petersburg Knights (1-1)
10 (5).... Stockholm Cows (1-1)
11 (11).. Copenhagen VooDoo (1-1)
12 (12).. Berlin Blaze (1-1)
13 (13).. Capri Elites (0-2)
14 (14).. Leipzig Lava Flow (0-2)
15 (15).. Madrid Strikers (0-2)
16 (16).. Marseille Hitmen (1-1)
both games of the week turned out to be blowout wins - Rome crumbled under the Bengals' great passing attack and solid running game while Stockholm decided it would be better not show up at all against Geneva. St. Petersburg was (after-)shocked by South Yorkshire, who established themselves among the playoff contenders this season.
this brought some movement into the rankings, South Yorkshire moved up to #6 while Stockholm fell all the way down to #10.
Alpha Games of the Week
#6 South Yorkshire Aftershocks (2-0) vs. #3 Valletta Vikings (2-0)
The Aftershocks have been the most pleasent surprise so far, going 2-0 after enduring a forgettable 3-13 season last year. Last week's win against St. Petersburg could turn out to be the tie-breaker they need to sneak into the playoffs.
Valletta, on the other hand, had two gimme games to start the season and they didn't flinch, winning both contests convincingly. Last season's matchup between these two teams ended with a somewhat surprising 35-20 win for the Vikings, who should've won easier according the some observers.
Valletta is still one of the top teams in the league and South Yorkshire will find out that they're not there yet.
My prediction: Valletta by 13
#5 Austrian Eagles (2-0) vs. #7 Glasgow Bravehearts (1-1)
Both teams haven't faced major competition yet this season, though the Scots had the tougher Zeta opponent in West Yorkshire. Austria's defense has been impressive so far, allowing only 1 score in 2 games, however, their opponent's don't belong to the upper echelon of the league.
The Eagles won last season in a nailbiter, 30-28, and it's tough to predict this one either. Austria are the favorites but no-one would be really shocked if Glasgow can pull off the upset.
My prediction: Austria by 4
