Western Europe AA #4 Week 1 - 16 Games, 16 Predictions
Glastonbury Knights (Alpha) @ Kilkenny Sidhe (Zeta)
Ok so this one, there really isn't a whole lot to say about it. It's going to get ugly fast, as last years conference champs from A8 Alpha look for a quick jump out of the gate.
Knights over Sidhe. (-255)
Vatican City Angels (Zeta) @ Sweden Army (Alpha)
Another game, another holy massacre. Angels shouldn't have too much trouble here.
Angels over Army. (-255)
London Brawling Tommies (Zeta) @ Bow Street Runners (Alpha)
Finally a game worth some typing!!! At first glance you'd think the Runners have the advantage here. But the Tommies just took care of them in their scrimmage by a pretty good margin. Were the Runners sandbagging or were the Tommies just tuning up for what was about to come? I'm going with the latter, as I think the Runners lack of depth at WR is going to hurt their ability to move the ball.
Tommies over Runners. (-17 1/2)
The Berlin Skulls (Alpha) @ Gotham City Jokers (Zeta)
Trying to pick a winner in this game is tough. The Jokers lost both their preseason games, while being handled fairly easily in their second one. While the Skulls got worked in the first go around, but beat a gutted team the second. But then again, it's only preseason... The Skulls are a tough team to gauge, as a pending trade could be solving some of their depth issues, while the jokers have some of their own on the O-Line, while inactivity in the secondary could cost them as well. I think the issues with both teams will offset each other, and the better team will come out on top.
Jokers over Skulls. (-3)
Tranmere Titans (Zeta) @ Cork City Wildcats (Alpha)
A pair of teams who pulled opposite actions during the preseason. The Titans look very very strong, and might be a team to beat come playoff time in Zeta. They have great talent, along with good depth, and all the tools to make a run deep into day 40. The Wildcats are looking to recover from their tough loss in the first round of the playoffs last season. When it comes down to it however, I think the Titans are going to be too strong for the Wildcats.
Titans over Wildcats. (-13)
Limerick Vikings (Alpha) @ Vienna Blood Sausages (Zeta)
Another rematch from a preseason battle, as the Sausages took their first meeting by 4. But in a game that close, anything can happen the second go around. Vienna will look to it's passing game to lead them to another victory, but I think it's going to be a lot tougher this go around, with more chips on the table, and a much more pressing need for their running game to get going. Limerick needs to be more productive on their opponents side of the field, as they can't settle for as many FG's as they did in their first meeting. I think the revenge factor is going to kick in this time, but it won't be quite enough.
Sausages over Vikings (-1)
Buffalo Buffalos (Zeta) @ Kilkenny Cannibals (Alpha)
After finishing with the #1 seed, and then being upset in the second round of the playoffs last season, Kilkenny is out for blood. Their elite secondary looks to keep teams grounded, but the Buffs may have other plans. They have depth everywhere, and are going to be another team in Zeta to make some noise come crunch time. This one is going to come down to what kind of performance the Kilkenny offense can provide, as their defense will give them chances. This one is going to be a battle down to the end, but talent and depth will prevail.
Buffaloes over Cannibals (-6)
Dublin Drunken Monkeys (Alpha) @ Glasgow Colored Trombones (Zeta)
Last year's A7 Alpha Conf. Champs, head to Glasgow to face the Trombones, who had a great 1st year in AA last year, after winning it all in A7 the season before. This matchup is very interesting, but when you come down to it, it's going to come down to one player. Can Glasgow RB J.A. Prufrock and a very talented 'Bone O-Line have their way with the D-Monk defense. If Prufrock goes for 100+ yards, the 'Bones should have no trouble controlling this game. The D-Monks gave the Titans all they could handle in their last preseason matchup, and if he doesn't get his 100 yards and Glasgow has to rely on the passing game, it will allow the D-Monks very good pass rush to be set loose. That could spell trouble for the 'Bones.
'Bones over D-Monks. (-2 1/2)
Grim Reapers (Alpha) @ London Blood Ravens (Zeta)
The Reapers look to be the favorites in Alpha this season, and they start their season with the bullseye on their backs as they head to London. London had a rough go in the preseason, losing two tough games, but the Reapers did as well. London looks to improve on their 8-8 record from last season, and make t he playoffs. Both of these teams have very good depth, but the Reapers have the advantage when it comes to pure talent. The Reapers may have talent, but they need to prove they can score, as they only put up 19 points in their first two preseason games. I think their defense can get the job done for them in this low scoring affair.
Reapers over Blood Ravens. (-6)
Amsterdam Arctic Blast (Alpha) @ Valencia Bats (Zeta)
Last years A7 Champs look to get this season going the right way, as the Bats host the Blast, who has a very successful 11-5 season in their first year in AA. The Blast will try to give the Bats a rude welcome, with a power running game lead by RB Skip Hicks. The Bats however don't want to be out done, and have a pretty potent offense themselves, but it's going to fall on the shoulders of their front seven if they want to walk off the field with a win. If the power of the Blast can handle the Bats front 7, then they should have no problem winning this one.
Blast over Bats. (-5 1/2)
Munich Hofbräuhaus (Zeta) @ Transylvania Bloodsuckers (Alpha)
Jason Coker and the high-flying 'Suckers passing attack have made their way to AA, after a heartbreaking one point loss in their conference title game last season, they start this season off in Munich. They don't have the depth of Weapons they are used to however, and were out matched in their first preseason game against the Hofbräuhaus. Munich looks to battle for a Zeta title, led by a pair of very strong LB's, and look to give the team of darkness a few shots of their own. However, as the guys from A7 know... Coker and Co. are full of surprises, and could very well pull a fast one on Munich. However I think that Munich defense is just too good and too fast for the 'Suckers wideouts to do their usual thing.
The Haus over Bloodsuckers. (-13)
Walthamstow Dogs (Zeta) @ Warsaw Water Buffalos (Alpha)
After a rough 2-14 season last year, the Dogs look to rebound, and will start off their season in Warsaw, after an impressive 2-0 record in the preseason. However, the plethora of CPU's that dot their roster, especially at WR, may slow them down, and the WaBuffs look to take advantage of that. Warsaw, after an impressive 15-1 season in A8 last year, look to make their mark in AA, and look for a tough defense, lead by DE Ned Braden to lead the way. I think the depth advantage the WaBuffs have over the Dogs is just going to be too much in the end.
WaBuffs over Dogs. (-20)
Wiesbaden Huskies (Zeta) @ Southriding Sting Rays (Alpha)
Another favorite in Alpha takes the field, as the Sting Rays look to take the sting off of last years undefeated season ended by a disappointing letdown in the playoffs. The Huskies also are looking to improve after their first round exit from the playoffs last year. The Sting Rays look to have started right where they left off, as their very very tough defense gave teams fits in the preseason, and will try to continue to shut down opposing RB's. The Huskies need to show the Rays have a dent in their armor if they want to go home winners in this one, but I don't think they have the firepower to do it.
Sting Rays over Huskies. (-10)
John Deere Tractors (Alpha) @ Naples Assassins (Zeta)
After a successful 15-1 record in A8 last season, the Assassins look to make a few killings in their new digs this season, as they take on the Tractors in their first AA game. The Tractors are gunning for their shot at an Alpha title, as they look to continue their run they have started, by going 2-0 in the preseason. They go up against a very good looking Assassin defense, which looks to have one of the best LB cores in the league. The Tractors will need to be solid with the passing game to have a chance to pull out this one, and I think that QB Johnny Utah is up to the challenge.
Tractors over Assassins. (-3)
London Underground (Alpha) @ Sayreville Stampede (Zeta)
Last years A8 champs, the Stampede, look to be another one of the favorites in Zeta this season, with a very strong roster up and down, and look to start off by bulldozing the Underground. London however, also in their first year in AA, has looked good so far in the preseason, and looks to continue that win streak. The Stampede look to young QB Zachary De la Rocha to lead the way for them, after a bumpy start for them in the preseason. Look for the London defense to try an exploit that inexperience, and put pressure on the young QB. The Stampede defense is going to have to prove their worth here, and show they are among the top units in Zeta.
Stampede over Underground. (-9)
(Last one finally...)
The Vatican Paladins (Zeta) @ London Death Monkeys (Alpha)
A couple of teams that had a rough go in the preseason, look to get things going when it counts. The Paladins suffered a couple of close losses in their preseason games, but look to show they have it when it counts in their first trip to London this season. The boys from London look to show they aren't pushovers in their first challenge in AA, but from the looks of it they may be lacking a little bit in fire power. The Paladins have an advantage of talent, which is going to be very tough for a young Death Monkey offense to over come.
Paladins over LDM. (-24)
Let the debating and ranting begin!!!
