Note: This Thread is an Addendum to mernoise's post on the power rankings...

At this point I'm considering only 9 teams to be of interest in the Alpha Conference. To all the rest, prove me wrong! The following calculations were based on average players' level by position (+/- the ammount they are off the "normal" value for that position), depth of roster.

This takes into account all players that could theoretically still have 3 boosts left, and assumes those players will in fact boost. In other words, this is a prediction of who the best team COULD be if all players all fully boosted by the end of the season.

Enjoy...

Maybe better to view by position:

QUARTERBACKS
1. Warfield Hellbringers (24)
2. Vatican City Popes (23.5)
T3 East Cairo Argonauts (22)
T3 Ingolstadt Hat Tossers
T3 Heidelberg Hitmen

RUNNING BACKS
1. Ingolstadt Hat Tossers (24) (2 unboosted level 21s are assumed)
T2 Passion Fruits (23)
T2 East Cairo Argonauts
4. Vatican City Popes (21.5)
5. Warfield Hellbringers (21)

WIDE RECEIVERS
1. Heidelberg Hitmen (21.2)
T2 Passion Fruits (21) (-1 penalty for only 4 WRs; the WRs they DO have average a level 22)
T2 Ingolstadt Hat Tossers
T4 Stockholm Black Death (20.8)
T4 Vatican City Popes
T4 East Cairo Argonauts
T4 Warfield Hellbringers

TIGHT ENDS
T1 Passion Fruits (22)
T1 East Cairo Argonauts
T1 Red River Ruminants
T1 Warfield Hellbringers

O-LINE (C,G,T)
T1 Passion Fruits (22.5)
T1 East Cairo Argonauts
3. Heidelberg Hitmen (21.8)
4. Warfield Hellbringers (21.5)
5. Popes/Stockholm (21)

D-LINE (DT)
1. Warfield Hellbringers (22.75)
2. Hiedelberg Hitmen (22.6)
T3 Vatican City Popes (21.5)
T3 Passion Fruits
T3 Red Driver Ruminants

DEFENSIVE ENDS
1. Warfield Hellbringers (23.25)
2. Ingolstadt Hat Tossers (22.75)
3. Passion Fruits (22.5)
T4 East Cairo Argonauts (22)
T4 Heidelberg Hitmen

LINEBACKERS
1. Passion Fruits (22.6)
T2 East Cairo Argonauts (22.2)
T2 Red River Ruminants
4. Ingolstadt Hat Tossers (22) (maintaining a level 21 average over 6 LBs instead of 5 gets them a +1)
5. Warfield Hellbringers (21.75)

CORNERBACKS
1. Passion Fruits (22.8)
2. East Cairo Argonauts (22)
3. Vatican City Popes (21.8)
4. Warfield Hellbringers (21)
5. Cambridge Chieftains (20.8)

STRONG SAFETIES
1. Passion Fruits (22.5)
2. Vatican City Popes (22)
3. Warfield Hellbringers (21.5)
T4 East Cairo Argonauts (21)
T4 Red River Ruminants

FREE SAFETIES
T1 Heidelberg Hitmen (22.5)
T1 Warfield Hellbringers
T1 Passion Fruits
T1 East Cairo Argonauts
5. Popes/Stockholm (22)(-1 penalty for only having 1 level 23 FS instead of required 2)

KICKING/PUNTING
1. Ingolstadt Hat Tossers (21)
2. Stockholm Black Death (20.5)
T3 Red River Ruminants (19.5)
T3 Cambridge Chieftains
T3 Warfield Hellbringers

DEPTH OF ROSTER (# OF NON-CPU PLAYERS)
1. East Cairo Argonauts (49)
2. Vatican City Popes (48)
T3 Ingolstadt Hat Tossers (47)
T3 Cambridge Chieftains
5. Passion Fruits (46)
T6 Stockholm Black Death (44)
T6 Red River Ruminants
8. Warfield Hellbringers (42)
9. Heidelberg Hitmen (40)

The right number here should probably be right around 48 players. I think the Popes are right on, the Argonauts a little over (hurting them financially?), and teams like Stockholm, Red River, Warfield, and Heidelberg in SERIOUS need of recruiting still in the off-season.

My rankings:

1. Passion Fruits
The offense is missing only a stud Quarterback, but they more than compensate being at or near the top of every other offensive position. The D-Line falls off pace just a bit from the best in the conference, but their LBs and entire secondary are ranked #1 across the board with their CB group being a cut above the rest of the conference.

POINTS OF CONCERN: The kicking game and possible lack of depth with only 46 players.

2. East Cairo Argonauts
They're in the top 3 of every offensive position except WR, and have HBs, TEs, and an O-Line identical to the Passion Fruits but with better Quarterbacks. The defense comes up just short of Passion in most categories, but is still respectable.

POINTS OF CONCERN: An interior Defensive Line that is nowhere to be found in the top 5. It's hard to be a contender for the championship in this conference if you can't stop that interior run.

3. Vatican City Fightin' Popes
A stud quarterback throwing to some of the best WRs in the league powers this offensive-oriented team, but their running backs are just average, with an average offensive line blocking for them. The biggest highlight of their average defense is their SS duo.

POINTS OF CONCERN: Playmakers on defense! Their LB and DE groups are nowhere to be found in the conference top 5. They also have the lowest kicking rating of any of the top 9. (17.5 average level between K and P).

T4. Stockholm Black Death
The WRs are the highlight of this offense who's offensive line has been just good enough to keep their QB safe long enough to get the ball to them--most of the time. Their TEs are unable to contribute much to the passing game, however, and their defense doesn't show up in any of the top 5 categories with the exception of the FS position.

POINTS OF CONCERN: Underleveled QBs and HBs, an at-best average defense, and a general lack of depth having only 44 players on the roster keep Stockholm from busting into the top 3.

T4. Ingolstadt Hat Tossers
An interesting offense that leads the HBs in the rankings if both of their level 21s boost, and WRs that aren't far off from the 1st place ranking themselves. Those HBs had better be good because their O-Line shows up nowhere in the top 5 in the conference. The defensive ends are outstanding, and the linebacking crew is probably the best pound-for-pound in the conference.

POINTS OF CONCERN: Their offensive line is decidedly mediocre, and they are unable to sneak into the top 5 in any of the defensive secondary positions.

6. Warfield Hellbringers
They'll bring some of the best QBs and TEs in the conference to each game, and the rest of their offense isn't too shabby, either. Their defensive line is the best in the conference bar-none, and they are found near the top ranking in every other defensive category.

POINTS OF CONCERN: Depth, depth, depth! The Hellbringers field only 42 Non-CPU players, and the HBs are quite a bit short of spectacular. If they could display the same potential across a 46- or 47-man roster I would easily place them as high as 4th, if not higher.

7. Red River Ruminants
POINTS OF CONCERN: They are tops in the TE rankings but lack any of the playmakers or O-Line required to put points on the board against the best defenses in the conference. The D-Line and Linebackers try to anchor the average defense, and they are a bit short on players with a 44-man roster.

8. Cambridge Chieftains
POINTS OF CONCERN: Even when I assumed that every single player on the team still had all 3 of this season's boosts the Chieftains still barely manage to crack their way into very many of the top 5 categories. Also, their entire team is fielded by only 3 agents.

9. Heidelberg Hitmen
POINTS OF CONCERN: The Hitmen impress in several positions, are completely absent in others, and manage to field only 40 Non-CPU players to be the weakest link in the top 9.

Very well done!!! I love to read this stuff.

May I point out though that the Popes were #6 in BBB1 in rushing and had top rankings in Def in BBB1 as well. Sorry, I gotta give props to my peeps.

Thank you for doing this, It is very much appreciated.

there's only one kicker in the league more accurate than wutang (13/14 as opposed to 11/12), and i think there are only 3 punters in the league with a higher punt average than coffin dawg. i don't see this being a huge problem.

as for QB, QB and WR are the slowest positions to slow build. all of our guys at these positions are relative slow builds and are really just hitting their stride with the boost just before the playoffs. as of right now the WR builds are all very solid and my QB is 1007 xp away from being a monster. but with our running game, what's the rush?

Yeah our QBs are pretty garbage, especially Lambda's. Same for his kicker, Mendez Jr.

His QB rating only exceeded 74 in 5 games last season, and those were against Nikopolis, iue5, Amsterdam, Heidelberg, and Tilburg. So yeah...he's got some room to improve and I wouldn't consider iBomb Automatically a stud--yet.

i appreciate the concern but i can say with absolute certainty that the build is very strong. you won't be seeing a one-dimensional PF offense "struggle" and only put up the second most points in the league like last season

That's what happens on slow builds, your performance tends to suffer in the early stages. His guy is finally starting to take shape (as is a lot of our roster). We won't be running the ball 85% of the time this season.

Yep there is only 3 of us. Real life friends that work at the same place. We have fun and you can pretty much be certain that for the most part have not and will not be boosting. The idea was to see how well co-ordinated builds would work and for us all to get some GMing experience. Last season I think for the most part our co-ordinated builds helped us a huge amount. Pross did a fantastic job as a first time DC having never seen the AI before. For me. I learnt that being an OC on a team that is constantly outleveled is a tough job. but I did learn a good amount.

This season our goal is the same as last season..... To have fun !

Good luck all

Thanks for the honest input, Skvan. You guys certainly got the best of my Argonauts in the early going last season...best of luck to you guys in the future if you decide to build up another team from scratch with your newfound GMing experience.

No team impressed me more than the Chieftains last season in terms of game planning. Under-leveled you managed to go 5-1 to start the season when I didn't have you winning more than 3 of those games. Your game plans were among the best in the conference last season and you guys did a great job. I fully expect you to make the playoffs this season and to lay down a few upsets once again.
